Well, for now… probably best to grab some food first.
After staying cooped up at home for an entire week, Nagi decided it was time to step outside and get something to eat.
But the moment he left his house, he noticed something unusual—there were way more people on the streets than usual.
It wasn't until he saw the forehead protectors from various villages that it clicked.
"So that's it—the Chunin Exams are about to begin!"
Nagi hadn't expected the Chunin Exams to come this quickly.
But thinking back, in the original story, it didn't take long after Team 7 returned from the Land of Waves for the exams to start either.
"Well, I've got nothing better to do. Might as well stop by Ichiraku Ramen."
He figured outsiders probably didn't understand the true meaning of good food.
And sure enough, unlike the other shops packed with crowds, Ichiraku Ramen had only a few people inside.
"Nagi! Don't see you out for ramen often!"
Teuchi grinned and waved when he saw him.
"Mm. Same as usual, Teuchi-san," Nagi replied. "By the way—where's Ayame?"
"Oh, she went out shopping. Konoha's packed today, so she might take a while to get back."
Teuchi explained cheerfully.
Nagi simply sat quietly at the counter, waiting for his food.
"Hmph. I thought Konoha was full of Jonin-level shinobi. Turns out it is not the case."
A familiar, arrogant voice came from the next seat.
"That Uchiha Sasuke guy? Just a cheap trickster. Total disappointment."
Another voice—this one a girl—chimed in.
Normally, Nagi wouldn't care. If people wanted to talk big, let them. It wasn't like bragging was illegal.
But the moment he saw who was talking, it all made sense.
"So it's them."
Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari were sitting just a few feet away, casually chatting about the day's events.
"Doesn't matter. Besides Uchiha Sasuke, there's no one in Konoha worth mentioning."
Gaara said flatly, clearly not taking the village seriously.
"Looks like we came to the right place."
Kankuro was already dreaming of beating Konoha's finest to boost Suna's reputation.
If everything went as planned, Konoha wouldn't be able to carry the weight of the shinobi world anymore.
"Kankuro's right."
Temari agreed wholeheartedly.
After all, the legacy of the previous Hokage generations loomed far too large.
Even with Konoha in decline, the other villages still subconsciously viewed it as number one.
But if they could trample Konoha publicly during the exams…
That legacy might finally collapse.
"This time, we'll go all out. Let them see the strength of Sunagakure."
Temari gave her brothers a morale boost.
"Hmph. You outsiders win a few fights and suddenly think you're legends."
"Why don't you try beating the strongest in Konoha first!"
Someone from a nearby table finally snapped, unable to stomach their arrogance.
But they had no idea—they'd just poked Gaara's battle instincts.
"Hey. Who's the strongest in Konoha?"
Gaara's cold, empty gaze swept over the room, sending chills down everyone's spines.
No one had expected a child to radiate such murderous intent.
"Hmph. Konoha's number one prodigy? That'd be Nagi, obviously. Who else, me?!"
They forced themselves to name Nagi, swallowing their fear.
As expected, Gaara's interest piqued the moment he heard that name.
He was curious to meet this so-called prodigy of Konoha.
But even so, Gaara wasn't done with the crowd yet.
Just as he summoned his sand to teach them a lesson—it shattered with a single punch.
Gaara: "??"
Kankuro: "??"
Temari: "??"
"No way!"
Gaara's eyes widened in disbelief. His sand had some of the strongest defensive properties—how could it be shattered so easily?
"This sand's… really that weak?"
Nagi looked surprised. He hadn't even punched that hard.
"You're… Nagi!!"
The people he'd just saved instantly recognized the famed prodigy.
"Go home," Nagi told them casually, not bothering to say anything more.
"So you're that Nagi, the genius of Konoha."
Temari, the eldest of the trio, stepped forward.
"Temari, let's talk to him—this might be a good opp—"
Kankuro started, but Gaara yanked him back.
"That guy… there's no way…"
For the first time, Gaara felt an overwhelming sense of fear.
Even the monster inside him—the One-Tail—was trembling.
"This guy… I can't win."
In his heart, Gaara slapped a warning label on Nagi: Do not engage.
Gaara might've been a battle maniac, but he wasn't a masochist.
Just a glance at Nagi had stunned him.
"How can someone have more chakra than me?!"
It was the first time Gaara had encountered something beyond his comprehension.
Being a Jinchuriki was supposed to mean unlimited chakra and heightened perception.
Yet now, all his senses were telling him—
This person in front of him was thousands of times more terrifying than him.
"Listen to Gaara. Don't be reckless."
Temari couldn't sense what Gaara had, but she trusted her little brother enough to heed his warning.
Despite her young age, she carried herself with surprising poise and authority—like a queen in the making.
"If she were a little older, I wouldn't mind becoming Gaara's brother-in-law.."
But right now, her other brother clearly wasn't taking this well.
"If I were you, I'd leave now. After all, this is Ichiraku Ramen. I don't want to start a fight here."
Nagi had no intention of breaking the sacred Ichiraku invincibility bug.
"…Let's go."
Gaara, at last, withdrew his disdain for Konoha.
With someone like Nagi around, Konoha would be far harder to deal with than expected.
Fortunately, there was no way a monster like him would actually enter the Chunin Exams… right?
