Chapter 75: A Nighttime Checkup
A red haired woman laid messily on the ground, sleeping out in the open during the night. She used her bag as a pillow and some discarded wrappings of rations surrounded her. She was sleeping near a honeysuckle plant that Saul had infused earlier on in the day. Her glasses were off to the side of her sleeping form.
"Hey... I'm back."
The sleeping woman did not respond. A heavy sleeper, he supposed. Saul debated treating her like he did Hinata, slowly building up her confidence and making her reliant on his presence. But no. She had a slender build, with scarring all over her arms and legs. She was skinny, malnourished, and unappealing. He'd have to clean the woman up before she'd even meet any of his standards.
Saul lost patience. "Oi. Get up."
He kicked her in the ass. Karin shrieked.
"EEEEK!"
She rolled over pitifully on the ground, curling up into a ball.
"DON'T KILL ME!"
Could this woman be any louder? If they weren't near the outskirts of the forest of death, maybe she would have already attracted attention from the other examinees.
"Calm down."
He picked up her glasses and put them on her while she lay there frozen.
"Can you see me now?"
Karin looked up. The face that greeted her was that of her late teammate's, but she immediately knew that was not the case. From his aura alone, she knew exactly who this was. He was her savior. The man had come back for her, just as he promised.
The purple aura that the man radiated was no longer as ugly or menacing. Instead it was calm, still like the surface of a lake. Still, why did he kick her?
Karin bit her lip. She felt a little heated from the kick, but she didn't dare to question him on anything. He was still so strong, so scary. She gave a weak smile,
"Yes... Sir?"
"That will do for now."
He sat by the tree next to her and patted his lap.
"Come, sit here."
Karin could see where this was going. Her stomach sank. Still, there was no hesitation as she climbed on top of his lap. Hesitation was the seed of disobedience. Disobedience resulted in punishment.
Karin knew that with her failure to die with the two Kusagakure-nin she accompanied, she would already be punished harshly by her village. Even more so if they learned she trusted the words of an outsider who for some reason, deep inside, made her feel safe.
"I'm here, sir."
Saul ran his hands along her slender body, feeling the tactile imprints of scars all over her skin. The majority were concentrated on her arms and legs, but a few actually had the audacity to bite directly into the small mounds of fat that were her breasts. Saul ran his fingers over them now. Karin shivered.
"Sir, if you wish, I can serve you with my mouth. That way you would not have to lay eyes on my disgusting body."
Karin had been hit multiple times for this offense before. Being so disgusting from all the bites on her body, no one even wanted to take advantage of her tarnished form. It was her fault after all. She'd do what she always did and try to please them in another way. Anything to avoid being killed just like her mother.
She looked up at him, as if it were something routine to let him examine. "My face and neck are unmarred." Then she opened up her mouth for him to inspect.
Saul was tempted, but held back for the moment. He was currently in a clone. He also had other plans with Karin. She'd remain here as long as he wished. He could take his time.
"There is no need for that right now." He removed his hands from the inside of her shirt. "I came here to see if you stayed and to reward you if you did."
"Reward? What do you mean by reward?"
Karin was starting to get nervous. Rewards were not something people like her enjoyed. There was a catch. There was always a catch.
"I mean a reward, Karin. Hold out your right arm."
She immediately obeyed his command on pure instinct. She had the makings of a good, obedient slave. Even Hinata was never so quick to obey.
Saul rolled up her sleeve and held her arm tenderly, carefully. Karin felt a strange feeling inside her chest. The aura from his hands was still purple, but gold, flecks of gold wrapped around his palms. She had never seen anyone have that kind of color when interacting with her!
A green light emanated from his hands. Karin felt an itchy sensation on her arm underneath the light as she gazed on with wonder. What was this magic!?
"Stay still." He commanded.
Karin looked back in a daze at his face. His focused expression, his narrowed eyes, his serious demeanor... She stared for a while before his voice broke her reverie.
"Do you like it?"
Looking away with a blush, she caught a glimpse of the arm that had been in his hands. Wait. Her arm, it was... It was...!
Tears streamed silently down her face.
"Karin. Answer me."
"...Yes. I like it..."
She didn't know how to express the joy that filled her entire being. Not just for her arm that had been healed. But for the thought of maybe, just maybe, never having to be bitten again! This man's abilities were nothing short of miraculous!
She had to be wounded so others could heal. Yet, this man seemed to pay no such price!? No, there had to be some kind of misunderstanding. Nothing was free.
"How can I repay you?"
"You forgot the sir. But it doesn't matter. Start by calling me 'Master' from now on."
"Master."
This girl was too easy. Her obedience made her useful as a tool but not much else. Saul had no romantic interest in women like this - it was boring.
He certainly had not done this with his earlier hypnosis; his technique was not able to change the personality at all even if he wanted to. Rather, this was just how she was as a result of Kusagakure's constant abuse.
"As you can see, I do not require you for your healing abilities. Under me, you will not be required to be constantly bitten by multiple people you do not even know. However,"
Here comes the catch...
"I still require your abilities personally."
Karin was light as a feather. Saul picked her up and turned her around so she straddled him now, facing him directly.
"Give me your arm."
Karin extended out her left arm, the one still scarred all over with bite marks. She hoped to keep her newly healed arm safe as long as possible.
"Your other arm Karin. You should always offer me your best, understand?"
"Yes..."
She raised up her right arm. The skin on it was snow white, unmarred, soft, and tender for what felt like the first time in years.
Saul held it up to his face and extended his head. He tried to suppress the welling sense of disgust this kind of action brought him. This was no longer the real world, but a fantasy. It operated under different rules.
Saul bit down, gently. It was not enough to break her skin. He could taste the slightly salty flavor of her sweat. He could smell the intimate scent of her female pheromones. Karin's breath started becoming heavy.
Then he increased the pressure of his jaw. Slowly yet surely, until he felt the metallic taste of her blood begin to leak into his mouth. That's when he felt it. A connection formed between himself and the girl. Her massive, almost otherworldly amount of chakra leaked into the body of the clone until it was full.
"Oh, Mmmn~"
The clone now had more chakra than it was created with. Actually, he felt just like he was in his real body now. The reserves in his clone were at full capacity as a result. Interesting... Clones could not expend stamina to create new chakra, unlike when he was in his original body. Thus the most he had ever had before was half his normal Chakra. Yet now...!
Karin was breathing heavily and looking at him with a blush on her face. Saul decided to ignore it. With a casual use of medical Ninjutsu he healed the arm he had bitten and stood up. Karin stared up from him at the ground looking lonely as ever.
"I'll be coming by the next few nights to check on you, and I'll bring more food and water as well. Once the Chunin exams are over, I should be good to see about moving you into Konoha. Do you need anything from me before I leave?"
"M-master... Can you show me your face again before you leave? Your real face."
Why did she want to see him again? Still the request was relatively benign and he was sure this was the real Karin. The Uzumaki clan abilities were unique. But what if she had been discovered and somehow compromised?
Saul immediately spun around and before Karin could even react, his hand glowing with the light of a frontloaded mind body palm was already gripping her face. He activated the trigger for hypnosis he left in her mind previously.
It was like a miniature lock made out of his chakra. If he inserted chakra of the same type with the correct intent, it'd connect with the links inside her mind to reactivate the special state he crafted while she was unconscious. Saul felt confident that anyone else would not be able to unlock it without long periods of targeted study, and that was assuming they had the knowhow to find it in the first place.
"Did anyone else discover you or interact with you?"
Karin stared at him dazedly.
"...I don't think so..."
"Why did you want to see my real face?"
"I wanted to... See you."
That was no answer.
"Why."
While under hypnosis, she struggled to form a reason. The lethargic state caused by his ability would not be suitable to control anyone in public. The massive reduction in cognitive prowess would be a clear tell that something was wrong.
"Because I feel... hot. When I think about you, Master."
"I see..." Saul released her from both his grip and the hypnosis.
Karin's eyes came back to clarity. She must have blanked out. Saul's voice rang out while his back was turned to her,
"That doesn't qualify as something you need, Karin. But if you serve me well enough in the future, you'll be able to see me every day. Remain here. Do not leave the immediate area of this tree."
"Yes... Master. Thank you for your generosity."
She kowtowed to him, even though he had his back turned to her. Then he disappeared into the forest. Karin moved up from the bow and sat with her back to the tree, now lonely and scared once again. She hoped the man would keep his word and come back to see her again tomorrow...
Author's Note: Karin's desperation from the treatment of her village and the recent death of her mother have resulted in her being very willing to leave. In the original she just felt as if she had nowhere else to go. Her bottom line is so low in comparison to most other human beings that Saul could probably simply get away with doing whatever he liked to her, and she wouldn't have many issues.
This also has the dichotomy of making Saul less likely to indulge with her. Things that are too easily obtained are not cherished. This is human nature. Sakura and Karin both fell into this pitfall in regards to Sasuke in the original series. Still if this was his real body, I don't doubt when she offered herself up Saul would have remained polite. It's just that the recent scare with Orochimaru has shaken him up quite a bit. Saul would not come with his real body unless he had that kind of intent in the first place.
