Chapter 10: Chapter 10 : Danzo, Shisui And Mangekyo
The evening air was heavy near the Naka Shrine. Shadows stretched long across the ground as Shisui stood quietly, his cloak fluttering in the breeze.
Today was the day when he was about to initiate his plan. The clan was about to gather in the Naka Shrine to plan the coup. If he succeeded in using Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku, then he would stop the coup from happening.
But he wasn't alone. Unlike what he thought.
From the trees, Danzo stepped out, cold and calm. Behind him stood two Root shinobi, silent as death.
"Danzo-sama," Shisui narrowed his eyes. While he called Danzo "sama," he honestly had little respect for this man. He knew the darkness this man had was immense.
Danzo asked him about Shisui's motive. Shisui, trusting that Danzo, while infamous for his backhanded tricks, was still a Konoha elder, decided to tell him everything.
Little did he know that Danzo already knew about the plan. He knew everything. He had his men everywhere; even the Hokage's office wasn't spared.
Danzo didn't waste time. He moved quickly.
He wasn't planning on talking much with the Uchiha boy. Kagami's—his teammate and friend—descendant he may be, but Danzo didn't care. For him, all Uchiha were evil. He went to get Shisui's eye.
Shisui easily put Danzo in a genjutsu to stop him. However, that was a trap. Danzo had a Sharingan behind his bandaged eye and had already activated Izanagi to ambush Shisui.
Using this, he caught Shisui off guard. With a single swipe of his hand, Danzo pulled out one of Shisui's eyes.
"Agh—!!" Shisui screamed as pain exploded in his head. Danzo ripped the right eye clean from the socket, holding it in his hand like a stolen treasure.
"This will be better off with me. Now give me the other one too," Danzo said, calm and heartless.
But Shisui wasn't done yet.
Rather than fighting there, he decided to run, and with his unmatched speed, Shisui escaped in a blur, leaping into the trees, his body barely holding together. The Root ninja gave chase instantly.
"Don't let him get away!" Danzo ordered. "His other eye is still mine!"
While the majority of his men gave chase to Shisui, Danzo himself was ready to go back to his Root lair. He only had two more of his Root members with him.
"Ahg…!"
However, just when he was about to move, pain rang out from his hand. With his single eye, he saw his hand holding Shisui's Mangekyo falling down, completely cut off from his.
His hairs stood on end. He didn't even see the attack coming, let alone could defend against it. With one hand cut off and the other bandaged, he couldn't make any hand signs.
His eyes immediately turned around, mentally wondering why his Root operatives hadn't acted upon seeing this.
Only when he turned around did he realize why.
The two Root shinobi were lying dead, in a pool of their own blood, beheaded. Danzo didn't care about their death, but who killed them was his concern. More importantly, how someone was able to kill his Root shinobi right under his nose without him even knowing.
How did this person cut his hand without him even seeing the attack coming?
However, those matters could wait, since he saw a single individual with a mask and cloak standing at some distance looking at him. Danzo knew this was the shinobi who attacked him.
"An Uchiha?" But how did they know he was here? What he was planning? Did his Root have spies? No, impossible.
However, Danzo's main priority was to get out of there alive. And of course, his recently acquired Mangekyo.
The enemy shinobi, who looked much smaller now that he noticed, pointed his hand towards him, and Danzo's eyes shrank.
"Attack…"
His eyes moved overtime to figure out where the projectile was coming from. No doubt the shinobi threw something towards him; otherwise, at that distance, hitting him was impossible.
However, no matter what Danzo did, he didn't catch anything midair.
Everything happened in a fraction of a second, in fact. From his hand being bisected, to his Root shinobi dying, to the appearance of this enemy shinobi.
Until his vision went black. A sharp pain rang out in his eyes.
His other eye was also gone, torn and cut open alongside half of his face. The face was fine. The attack, whatever it was, didn't have much power behind it, only left a shallow wound on his skin, cutting only the upper skin from forehead to jaw and spilling blood.
It could be easily healed. However, his eye—the only single working eye—was gone in that attack.
Completely slashed open.
"Aghaaaa…." Danzo let out a cry. Everything happened so fast that he couldn't even react to it. From the invisible attack to him becoming completely blind.
His heart, for the first time, started to beat fast. 'Am I going to die here?'
'Unfortunately, that won't happen today,' the shinobi who just attacked thought with a sigh.
Oh, how much he wished to gut the bastard right now, killing him completely to avoid future troubles. But he needed Danzo for his plans. For now…
Sukuna, behind the mask and cloak, muttered to himself with irritation. He didn't do anything to Danzo after that, though. He simply reached out for Danzo's cut-off arm and dashed out from there at his best speed.
His first objective was completed with this.
"To the next target then."
Meanwhile…
Shisui ran through the forest, his breath sharp and shallow. Trees blurred past him, but every step felt heavier. His body was weak—his vision limited with only one eye, and his blood carried poison. Danzo's kunai had been laced with it.
Damn it… he thought, stumbling over a root. His legs shook. Behind him, he heard the silent footfalls of Root shinobi, still chasing him without rest.
'I can't keep running.'
With gritted teeth, Shisui stopped in a small clearing. His hands formed a sign, and his one remaining Sharingan blazed with power.
A green ribcage of energy burst around him—his Susanoo. Though it wasn't complete, it was strong enough to fight.
The Root shinobi surrounded the clearing, weapons drawn. They didn't speak. They only moved in, silent and deadly.
Shisui raised his Susanoo's arm, and a glowing blade formed in its hand. He swung it wide, sending two attackers flying. Another rushed in from the side—Shisui blocked the strike, then retaliated with a crushing blow.
But he was slowing down.
The poison was spreading fast. His breathing was ragged, his limbs heavy. The Susanoo flickered, unstable.
One of the Root agents managed to land a hit, cutting into Shisui's side. Blood sprayed, and he dropped to one knee. The Susanoo wavered again.
That was when Sukuna came in.
Noticing Shisui had already taken down most of the Root members. However, he was losing blood fast.
He stayed back until Shisui finally took care of the last Root member.
Staggering, Shisui was ready to get out of the forest. He had to give his remaining eye to Itachi. He had made his decision. He believed that he could live even after the poison affected him if he acted fast; however, he had no wish to do that.
His existence would just further increase the conflict between both Uchiha and the village. If his death could somehow stop the situation, then he'd rather die.
He planned to give his eye to Itachi…
\*Swoop…
Suddenly, his single eye caught something coming at him with extreme speed. He could only see the shadow of whatever that was. Extremely fast and almost invisible.
He tried to form a handsign, do his best jutsu, substitution.
However…
"Ahg…"
He was too slow. In a heartbeat, both of his legs were cut off. He fell to the ground with a thud.
Grunting, he was going to form some handsign in a hurry; however, in a heartbeat, both of his hands were gone too.
"Ahaaa…"
"Sorry about that…" a voice came from behind him. A chill spread through Shisui.
He didn't even sense this person. Even his Sharingan didn't manage to spot him.
'When did he come?'
"But you were planning to die anyway, so how you die shouldn't matter, right?" Again came the voice. He felt that voice was a little animated. Like someone was trying to intentionally make their voice heavy.
Shisui tried to move. All four of his limbs were gone; there was no escape from him. He couldn't even do Ninjutsu. His only option was Genjutsu with his Sharingan. As long as he could see the person…
However, before he could even complete his thought, he felt a hand—smaller for an adult—touch the side of his face and with ease rip out his remaining eye.
Shisui gritted his teeth, helpless. The pain of his eye getting ripped out didn't even bother him.
"Root." He didn't even bother asking who the person was upon the enemy taking his eye out. It had to be Danzo.
"Again, sorry. However, if it makes the situation any better, the eye isn't going to fall into Danzo's hands. And I give you my word, I don't have any ill intention towards the Uchiha clan or Konoha," Sukuna said with a sigh.
Shisui, though, was in shock.
'Not Danzo? Then who?'
"Who are you?" Shisui finally asked. Both of his eyes were missing for him to see anything. However, he could tell that this person wasn't from Root. They don't talk during missions.
"Me? Hmm, how about I'll answer you if you answer one of my questions in return." Sukuna asked and waited.
Shisui paused for only a second before nodding. He was doomed, there was no doubt about it. So at least he should know who stole his eyes.
"What do you want to know?" Shisui was losing out on blood. He could feel that he didn't have long to live.
"Did you see my attack?" Sukuna asked with a curious gaze. He had tested it before; others couldn't see his attacks. But he had a feeling that Shisui did.
"I… I only caught a shadow of it. Whatever attack it was, it was very fast. I couldn't dodge it." Shisui, after some contemplation, decided to answer honestly.
"I see…" Sukuna calmly replied. However, the calm was only outside. Inside him was another question altogether.
He suppressed his emotions and looked back at the fallen Shisui who was waiting for his question to be answered.
However, his question would never be answered, because the next second, his throat was cut open and he died.
'Sorry again. However, I'd rather not say who I am. Even to a dead man.'
Because in this world, the dead don't tend to remain dead often.
Sukuna, after putting the eye away, gathered Shisui's and the other Root shinobi's bodies. He checked them for anything important he could use and then touched them.
A grid-like pattern formed inside his mind, and in the next instant, all the corpses were cut into small pieces.
It was the Cleave ability of his technique.
While Dismantle uses long-distance attacks, Cleave needs touch. However, it is more modifiable and stronger than Dismantle.
"Fuga…" Once both Cleave and Dismantle were used, Sukuna opened his flames and set the remains on fire.
He didn't create a fire arrow like Ryomen Sukuna in JJK. Ryomen Sukuna set up a binding vow for that.
Without the binding vow, which Sukuna clearly didn't have here, he could just use fire without going through many of the steps which the original Sukuna had to.
"And with this, the first step of the plan ends. Sigh… I still ended up going through it anyway. I just hope that the second step goes smoothly or this entire fiasco would be useless.
