Naruto: Reborn as Uchiha Obito

Chapter 11: Subarashii

"That sounds very touching, wanting to save your friends at all costs." Obito Uchiha nodded his head as if he deeply understood her great cause.

Just as Konan's face bloomed with a small hopeful smile

"But why should I?" Obito said in a calm, deep voice, tilting his head slightly, as if he was genuinely curious why the fuck he should care.

And just like that, Konan's face turned even paler than before.

Why should he?

Konan really didn't know how to respond to that. When she thought about it, he had approached them before, offered them power, vision and they rejected him.

And now that they're up to their necks in shit, here she was... begging for help like nothing happened?

It was shameful.

Konan's cheeks burned red from shame, but she still gritted her teeth and bit her pink lips like she was trying to hold back all her self-respect. She bowed her head low.

"Please, Madara-sama... help them. I... I would do anything," her voice cracked, and she finally broke down crying. Tears flowed down her face, staining her beauty with desperation.

Obito didn't answer right away.

He just stared at her. The exposed eye behind the mask locked on her trembling figure. The pressure was suffocating.

Konan, still kneeling, bit down harder on her lip. She didn't even know how much time passed... just as she was about to collapse from exhaustion and guilt, she heard a voice that instantly lifted her heart.

"No problem."

Obito's voice came at last.

"But you have to remember what you said just now."

"Thank you, really... thank you, Madara-sama." Konan, still crying, looked up with a soft, grateful smile, bowing again and again.

"Okay, no need for verbal promises. Take this... Only then can I be sure you really meant it," Obito said with an indifferent tone, pulling out a blood-red item.

Konan looked confused. "This is..."

"Swallow it," Obito said coldly, his tone brooking no argument.

"T-This... What is it?!" Konan asked, panic rising in her voice.

Obito's body shifted like he was already done with her. "Since you can ask questions... that means you really don't care about the life and death of your friends. Very well. I shall go now."

He started to turn away, and even put the item back in his cloak like he was really about to leave.

"W-Wait!" Konan didn't even know where she got the strength, but she reached out and grabbed his wrist.

"I... I'll do it. Give it to me."

Gritting her teeth, she took the item and swallowed it in one gulp.

"Good girl," Obito said, clearly satisfied.

He didn't tell her the full story.

That item? It was made from his own flesh and chakra. Anyone who ate it could be killed remotely by him, whenever he wanted. But that's all he could do with it.

He couldn't see through their eyes, couldn't read their thoughts, couldn't enslave their will like some Demon Slayer Muzan control freak bullshit.

So if someone ever ate one and betrayed him? He wouldn't know... unless he felt like nuking them preemptively.

He just needed leverage.

And Konan, a woman who valued her friends lives over her own was the perfect candidate. He knew she wouldn't risk death if it meant possibly endangering Yahiko or Nagato.

Konan, meanwhile, blinked in surprise. Her body felt... stronger. Her exhaustion had faded. Her chakra had recovered. Even the bruises were vanishing.

"T-This... Thank you," she murmured, cheeks pink from embarrassment.

"Hahahaha!" Obito laughed loudly, the sound echoing through the open space.

"I wouldn't be so quick to thank me if I were you," he said with amusement behind the mask.

"W-What... does that mean?" Konan asked nervously, a bad feeling bubbling up.

"Let's go. I don't have much time," he said casually, interrupting her before she could think too hard about it.

He placed a hand on her shoulder.

Kamui.

They vanished.

---

Obito Uchiha and Konan appeared through space transfer, startling both Nagato and Yahiko, who were preparing to meet Hanzo.

They both tensed up, getting ready for battle.

Soon, they saw who it was—Konan… and the masked man who called himself Madara Uchiha.

Seeing the two together, only one thought echoed in Yahiko's brain: Konan was in danger.

"Damn you bastard!" Yahiko yelled, rage overriding any kind of logic.

"I knew you weren't someone trustworthy!" Yahiko shouted, lunging forward to save Konan and attacking Obito with his kunai.

"Yahiko! What are you doing?!" Konan yelled, her voice cracking.

The voice stopped Nagato dead in his tracks. He was about to attack too, but now he wasn't even sure what the situation was.

But it was already too late... Yahiko's kunai pierced straight through Obito's body… or so it seemed.

Kamui, bitch.

"It's really welcoming. As expected of a 'calm mind' from someone who wants to achieve peace," Obito said, his voice deep and mocking.

Yahiko's face changed. That mocking tone...it pushed his buttons. He was about to launch another moral speech.

He really couldn't help it when someone just mocked his dream right Infront of him. Just as he was about to continue, Konan's voice stopped him in his tracks.

"Stop it already, Yahiko!" she yelled, stepping in front of Obito... shielding him.

Obito raised his eyebrows in surprise, then smiled slightly behind his mask.

He was enjoying this a little too much.

He felt like one of those guys in an NTR manga, where the supposed girlfriend shields another man right in front of her boyfriend.

"K-Konan… what do you mean by this?! Are you being threatened by him?!" Yahiko, whose IQ was clearly lower thanks to thinking his crush was in danger, blurted out the question.

"I'm not, Yahiko. Look closely and snap out of it already. Do I look like I've been kidnapped or threatened?!" Konan felt speechless with her friend, whose IQ seemed completely off.

She sounded so done with this shit.

Then she calmly explained what had happened and how the masked man had saved her.

Nagato and Yahiko listened carefully, each reacting differently.

"Konan… are you sure about this?! I'm not doubting you... but would Hanzo-sama really do this?" Yahiko finally asked, low and hesitant, eyes full of the kind of loyalty that gets you killed in politics.

Nagato said nothing. He just observed silently.

Konan, hearing Yahiko's question, looked slightly hurt. A wave of sadness passed over her face, but she quickly pushed it down and spoke after taking a deep breath.

"We can go to the place. All of their bodies are still there. You'll get your proof. And I don't blame you for doubting me, Yahiko. I understand where you're coming from."

"You carry the responsibility of the whole Akatsuki on your shoulders." Konan sighed in relief and smiled faintly.

She knew her friend didn't really doubt her...he was just thinking about the bigger picture.

Obito Uchiha, watching the drama unfold, was amused again. He was planning to play a little trick of his own now.

He was about to spice things up.

This whole thing had nothing to do with him... Really, he was just going to add a small prank.

After all...

Trust is a fragile little bitch.

And he was about to see just how fast it could shatter.

It didn't take long before all of them arrived at the place where Konan had been attacked earlier.

"Is… Is this really the place you were attacked, Konan...?" Yahiko hesitated slightly, his tone uncertain as he looked ahead.

Even Nagato's face changed slightly when he saw the scene before him.

Obito Uchiha just smiled faintly, knowingly.

This was his little prank.

Konan's face was stunned, filled with disbelief. What appeared before them wasn't the scene of a massacre... there were no dead bodies, no sign of the shinobi who ambushed her.

Just an empty, thorn-covered wasteland… the aftermath of the Wood Release thorns Obito had unleashed.

"T-This... can't be… they were clearly here, how..." Konan's lips trembled slightly, completely unsure how to explain it.

"Hahh…" Yahiko took a deep breath. Seeing Konan like this—confused, speechless—how could he not assume the worst?

His friend must have been fooled.

Thinking that, he suddenly turned around and spoke. His voice was low, but full of certainty.

"I trust Konan. But… I don't trust you, shady guy with a mask." Yahiko pointed directly at Uchiha Obito and continued with his brilliant reasoning.

"You… Just because we didn't fall for your so-called 'Madara Uchiha' talk and all that BS plan you mentioned, you went and attacked Konan in Hanzo's name... just to frame him, so we wouldn't ally with him."

"And would instead work with you. Otherwise, how do you explain you showing up at the perfect time, saving Konan's life, and then sending her to us? Why do all that?"

"I don't believe you're the type to do anything without some objective," Yahiko said, his voice full of dread and anger.

Both Yahiko and Konan's faces changed but for very different reasons.

Nagato, on the other hand, looked deep in thought. What Yahiko was saying… it did make sense.

But Konan? She was horrified.

She knew this wasn't the case at all. But just as she wanted to argue back, she realized—she had nothing. No evidence. No proof. Nothing.

She looked down, silently biting her lip.

"You, the masked clown who calls himself Madara…" Yahiko muttered darkly, slowly raising a kunai in his hand toward Obito.

"This time, I'll let it go. But…"

His eyes narrowed.

"If these kinds of tricks continue... don't blame me if I kill you."

Obito Uchiha, who heard Yahiko say all that BS, was dumbfounded.

…Wow.

Look at that attitude…

The fuck was that?

The fuck is this?

The fuck are you?

Obito asked these important questions in his heart to this guy, who was talking like Naruto but had no plot armor.

"Yahiko, it's not like that! I clearly saw Kandachi, the right-hand man of Hanzo… he also—" Konan tried to explain, but Yahiko wasn't having it anymore not when Konan was being so fixed on this guy's side.

"Enough, Konan. We're leaving," Yahiko said, then gave Nagato a look before turning around, brushing past Obito's shoulder, and walking off.

Konan's face was filled with disbelief, not understanding why Yahiko was acting this way.

She turned to look at the masked man… who, upon seeing her expression, simply turned around and left using his space-time ninjutsu.

Konan bit her lip and silently followed behind Yahiko and Nagato.

"Is this really okay…!?" White Zetsu said as he watched Obito, who had gone silent and was clearly shaking.

"Hahahahaha!" Obito finally couldn't help it and laughed heartily, his voice echoing through the empty space of Kamui.

"Subarashii!! What a wonderful performance that was—man, I clicked it." Obito Uchiha grinned wide, his face full of happiness.

White Zetsu tilted his head, thought for a moment, and then grinned too... finally understanding what had really happened.

"So you not only fulfilled Konan's promise… but also didn't let Hanzo and Danzō's plan go sidetracked. Plus, you planted guilt in Konan and a seed of doubt between them."

White Zetsu clapped his hands and said,

"It's really amazing, Obito… This time, you really scored a big one on that orange shitty brat."

Obito didn't say anything after that.

He just touched his mask, deep in thought.
