Naruto: Reborn as Uchiha Obito

Chapter 14: Gaslight Her, Guilt Trip Her, Then Tongue Her

"W-What... do you mean by that?" Konan asked. Although she had her suspicions, she really didn't expect him to actually know and more than that, admit it too.

"Really... is it that hard to understand? I meant to say I knew you were the target of Hanzo in order to corner Yahiko and Nagato."

Konan's face changed slightly, but Obito didn't even wait for her to speak. He kept going, as if talking to himself.

"But... so what?" This time, his voice was cold.

"Even if I did mention it, do you think Yahiko would've trusted me? Didn't you already see what happened during our encounter?"

"Our ideologies were different from the beginning. He could never come to trust me, and neither could I."

"He was the one who rejected my help. Then tell me, Konan why should I help him? Just because he believes he could achieve peace? Don't make me laugh. Look where that got him."

Konan trembled slightly part of her from anger, her friend being mocked… part of her because she couldn't refute a single thing he said.

Yeah. Why should he help someone who rejected him? This is the ninja world.

What matters is how much profit one can bring to another how useful one can be. Why would someone help someone who might become their enemy in the future?

Konan knew this truth well.

Maybe… if Yahiko hadn't been so stubborn… maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't have died.

Konan thought, as tears ran down her face.

'Well that went better than expected,' Obito Uchiha thought, watching her break down.

The reason why he revealed everything so easily was partly because Konan had become slightly suspicious of him. The other reason?

He knew hiding one lie on top of another can lead to good results sometimes but if even a single crack appears in those lies, everything falls apart.

He played it well... as if things ended up this way because of ideology differences, not because they were enemies, or because someone plotted.

Konan had to know.

Only then could she start questioning Yahiko's decision. If he had hidden this for too long, that might've led to a completely different result, one where even Yahiko's death might be linked to him in Konan's eyes.

He knew this woman was intelligent as hell.

Now, with the truth out in the open, even if she was angry, the chances she would hate him were low.

There's a saying: a guy who always does good... if he makes even one mistake, people forget all the good and curse him.

But if someone who's always shady does something unexpectedly good, people start to believe there's still something redeemable in him. Maybe, he can really do better.

The room fell silent. Time passed. Konan's sobs finally stopped and she looked up.

"I hope you remember what I said… and I'll keep my promise on my part too," she said, taking a deep breath, her tone cold and indifferent.

'Hooo? Playing cold, are we?' Obito smirked inwardly. He knew Konan was just acting tough to protect her fragile self in this moment.

So...

Obito suddenly closed the distance between them. Konan froze, not knowing why he was suddenly so close. Just as she was about to back away a warm touch landed on her lips.

Her eyes widened the instant she realized she'd been kissed.

She was flabbergasted.

'But how...? The mask is still on…' Konan's brain just refused to work at this moment.

What she didn't know was that Obito had used Kamui on his mask just to kiss her with a surprise attack. And well… he succeeded marvelously.

Tasting her soft and delicious lips, he started sucking on them hard… and finally took a soft bite.

This was his first kiss in this life and unlike Naruto and Sasuke, he had no fucking regrets.

Konan finally snapped out of it when she felt the slight pain in her lip. She pushed hard to throw this bastard off her.

Surprisingly, he let himself be pushed, and Konan gasped for breath, flustered and furious.

"J-Just what do you think you're doing, 'Madara'?!"

"Ohh, I'm just completing our promise. But Konan… I didn't expect you to react this interestingly," Obito said with a slow laugh, clearly amused.

"This is the promise you meant…? How can this be?" Konan couldn't believe that the legendary Madara Uchiha would pull shit like this.

"Oh well. We have all the time in the future to figure that out. Now rest, Konan," Obito said as he suddenly flashed to her side, she didn't even react in time and touched her soft hair, whispering into her ear before disappearing with Kamui.

"Get away from... me?" Konan turned and instinctively used her Paper Style to trap the bastard harassing her, only to find he had vanished already.

"...He's gone."

Konan didn't know why, but she suddenly felt a little… empty.

She shook her head and walked to the bathroom to wash her tear-streaked face. But when she saw the red mark on her lips…

Her lips trembled.

Her face turned red again from shame and anger.

"Damn that guy..." she cursed under her breath.

After leaving the Land of Rain, Obito didn't wander around. He returned straight to the Land of Water.

One month later.

The Third Great Ninja War had finally come to an end.

After that battle, both Sand Hidden Village and Konoha had ceased fighting.

Now, the Sand, Cloud, and Konoha Villages had already begun peace negotiations.

Only Mist Hidden Village kept fighting like a stubborn mule tirelessly harassing both Konoha and Sand.

Of course, that was because Obito was still pulling the strings, controlling the Fourth Mizukage to continue consuming the forces of these three villages.

But this situation wouldn't last much longer.

The Seven Ninja Swordsmen had been kicked to death by Might Duy, just like in the original timeline.

After Jūzō Biwa and Ameyuri Ringo returned to the village, they were accused and shamed, and ended up defecting.

Now, only Mangetsu Hōzuki remained among the Seven Swordsmen still in Mist Village.

Meanwhile, the Hidden Stone Village wasn't doing so hot. They hadn't been able to break through Pakura's defensive line.

Not that any of this mattered to Obito. As long as the war dragged on and the Big Three Ninja Villages kept draining each other dry, he didn't give a shit who came out on top.

However...

The anti-war voices in Mist Village were growing louder.

Obito didn't care about their opinion, but still the Fourth Mizukage had just taken the throne.

And Obito needed a Mizukage with real power one who could help him continue his plans not some puppet who'd been overthrown or assassinated by pissed-off villagers.

The Fourth Mizukage had finally gotten a stable foothold. If he got thrown out now, Obito would have to start all over again re-take control of whoever came next.

Way too much effort.

So yeah.

The Third Great Ninja War?

It needed to end... now.
