Naruto: Reincarnated Senju Prodigy With Mokuton

Chapter 26

Sasuke ran toward Itachi, but stopped as soon as he saw me, looking at me with a mix of curiosity and shyness.

Itachi smiled at the scene and introduced me to his brother.

"Hi, Sasuke, this is Riku, my friend. Don't be rude, say hello."

I was surprised that he had called me his friend, but I kept quiet, watching the little Uchiha standing there in front of me.

"H-hi... it's a pleasure," Sasuke said, still a little apprehensive.

"The pleasure is mine, Sasuke," I said, smiling at him.

"Well, Itachi, I have to go home now, so we'll talk more tomorrow. Bye, everyone." I said, and hurried away as quickly as I could.

I didn't want to be caught in the crossfire when Fugaku and he started arguing.

The walk home was quiet and gave me time to reflect on many things, especially how, even though I had changed several events, fate insisted on coming to fruition.

Luckily, once again, I managed to prevent it, but now I needed to focus on what was important:

'I need to prepare for the chunin exam,' I thought, with a smile on my face, which quickly twisted into an expression of pain.

"Ouch, ouch, ouch... I think I broke some ribs in that last battle."

When I got home, my parents were talking in the living room, and when they saw me, they were extremely worried about my injuries, but I reassured them as best I could.

Sooner or later, they would have to get used to seeing me like this.

I couldn't even think about food that night; all I did was lie down on my bed and pass out completely.

When I woke up the next day, I felt as if my injuries had completely healed, both from my recent level-ups and from Senju regeneration.

Feeling oddly carefree, I decided to open the system and see how things were going.

"Wow, this is definitely going to be useful. Actively seeking out missions and completing them is going to be extremely important. I need to pay more attention to that." I said, thinking out loud, just before hearing my stomach growl with hunger.

"Man, I can't even remember the last time I ate..."

So I went down to my kitchen to make a hearty breakfast.

My backyard faced the glass door of the kitchen. It was a quiet place, and I could see Senju Park in the background, which brought me an inexplicable comfort.

Except, of course, for my sensei, who was leaning against one of the trees waiting for me.

"This has to be a joke..." I muttered, with a mixture of discouragement and resignation.

I went out into the backyard, hoping he wouldn't force me to train with him or give me some mission I had forgotten.

Tetsu was standing there with his arms crossed next to a tree, and he came over to me as soon as I opened the kitchen door.

"Good morning, sensei." I tried to hide the discouragement in my voice.

"Riku, Riku, Riku... it seems like yesterday was quite an eventful day, wasn't it?" He smiled, but his smile hid a veiled threat.

"Eer... yes, hahaha," I said, scratching my head.

"Is that all? You have nothing to tell me?" Tetsu said.

"Over the last few days, I got involved in a political conflict in the village, interfered actively, spoke to the Hokage without your permission, and managed to complete my mission, well, at least as far as I could go..."

Tetsu remained silent, staring at me.

"... I also hid all of this from you and everyone else who wasn't directly involved, I acted selfishly, and the Hokage took an interest in my abilities. For all these reasons, he recommended me for the next Chunin exam, which will take place in three months, but I think you already know that." I said, taking a deep breath at the end of my words.

Tetsu smiled, but this time it was genuine.

"I'm proud of you, Riku," he said.

I was surprised by his reaction, but I waited for him to continue.

"You acted without my permission, but you proved yourself extremely capable of completing your mission without too many problems. I think it runs in the family, doesn't it? Anyway, the Hokage has already given me all this information, and I will be responsible for training you. I want to see how strong you are and what you have learned without me."

"I'm looking forward to training with you, Sensei! But now... can I have my breakfast? I'm starving." I said, my stomach growling.

Tetsu laughed and allowed me to go eat, but first he gave me one last warning.

"Enjoy your day off, Riku. Tomorrow we'll start training for real."

I nodded, tense but confident in my next steps. Then I went inside and finally ate my breakfast.

As soon as I finished eating, I headed to the Hokage's office, who wanted to talk to me and Itachi.

It was funny to walk through the streets of Konoha and see everyone going about their lives as usual, as if nothing had happened, and in fact it hadn't, I had prevented the Uchiha clan massacre from happening.

Before going to the Hokage's office, I went to the hospital to visit Shisui and Renji, who were still recovering. When I entered their room, Itachi was already there. They stared at me when I knocked on the door to enter.

"Excuse me, hey guys," I said, relaxed.

Shisui smiled at me, and Renji stared at me.

"Hey, Riku," they said in unison, although their tones were different.

"I heard you received a recommendation to take the chunin exam, congratulations!" Shisui said.

"Yes, I hope I pass. But how are you guys?" I said, changing the subject.

"I'm better, I should be leaving here today. But Shisui is going to stay a little longer," Renji replied.

"Yeah, apparently having your eye ripped out and then put back in isn't something that's highly recommended," Shisui joked.

We talked for a while longer, and then Itachi and I said goodbye to the two of them and headed for the Hokage's office.

Upon entering the room, Hiruzen was standing, staring out the window at the village, and on his desk was a ninja vest waiting for Itachi.

Hiruzen officially made Itachi a jounin, then began to talk about a more important matter.

"Danzou is imprisoned, and I intend to negotiate a peace agreement with his father, Itachi. I hope I can count on your support. As for you, Riku, I would like your help at this time as well. As a Senju, it will be extremely important for you to show that you were fighting alongside the Uchihas."

"All right... but what do you intend to offer?" I asked.

"I will offer Fugaku a place on the council after Danzou is officially deposed," he replied.

'That makes sense. It will bring the Uchihas closer to the village again,' I thought, resting my hand on my chin.

Itachi sighed with relief at Hiruzen's words.

"All right, let's do it," I replied confidently.
