Chapter 40
After eating, I started getting ready to go to the Konoha library — this time as a Genin, so the librarian wouldn't be able to pick on me again.
'Aaaargh. I still can't get our last battle out of my head. I fought well, no doubt about it, but that ninja's motives and goals are still bothering me. Was he a Jashin cultist? If so, I didn't know there were others besides Hidan. And then there's that mask...'
"Wait..." I glanced at the mask that was still attached to my waist.
'I forgot to give it to Sensei... it should serve as proof for something, right?' I stared at the mask as I walked.
The last time I had touched it, I felt something strange, like an energy running through it. I didn't understand what it was at the time, and I certainly don't now, but it's something I should try to investigate when I have more time, especially since it ended up staying with me.
I reached the library door and opened it — the place, as always, had that smell of old books and a deathly silence, broken only by the coughing of the librarian.
'I hope I don't have any problems this time.' I walked towards the lady.
"Cough cough... cough..." She coughed.
"Um, excuse me... are you okay?" I asked, looking at that pile of wrinkles shaped like a woman's face.
"I'm... cough cough... I just choked on— Ah! You're the little boy from last time..." She adjusted her glasses, looking me up and down.
"And I see you're a ninja now..." She continued, pointing to the headband on my forehead.
"Yeah... But this time I'd like to ask about another category of books." I replied.
"Right, last time you were looking for something about the Senju, if I remember correctly. What are you looking for this time?" she asked, punctuating her sentences with a few lingering coughs.
"I'm looking for something on medical ninjutsu. I think it'll be an interesting read."
"Hmm... right, I see your priorities have changed. Aisle 31-B, section 56. That's where the best books on ninja medicine are," she said, without having to think too hard about where the books would be.
"Thanks," I replied, starting to walk toward the section she had indicated.
'I hope I can learn the basics.'
It didn't take as long as I expected to find the medical books. A few people were milling around the area, some still dressed in their doctor and ninja outfits, while others walked around in civilian clothes.
I started looking at the books, searching for a title that caught my eye, until I came across one that read:
"The Principles of Chakra Control: Empowering Medical Ninjas"
"Well, that's pretty self-explanatory, right? I think that'll do."
I picked up the book, which was very clean, indicating that several people had read it, and then headed toward an area of the library where there were tables and chairs.

'Ah. I thought I could just receive the knowledge from the book that way. Maybe later...'
Then I started leafing through the book, which began with more technical knowledge about ninja medicine, and then moved on to medical ninjutsu itself.
It mentioned that chakra control can be exercised in several ways, the best being to concentrate the chakra in a specific part of the body and hold it there for as long as possible, usually in conjunction with some other technique, such as kinobori.
'Just like the training Naruto and Sasuke do in the classic anime, I guess.'
I continued reading for a while longer, learning how to improve chakra control, but not how to actually perform medical ninjutsu.
I looked around and saw a female ninja doctor reading a book, so I decided to approach her. As I got closer, she looked up from her book and examined me carefully.
"Excuse me, could you help me with something? I just started researching medical ninjutsu, but I'm still not quite sure what I should do, like where to start."
She adjusted her glasses and began to speak:
"Ah, so we have an aspiring medical ninja here? How interesting! I see you have a copy of 'The Principles of Chakra Control: Empowering Medical Ninjas'. That's a great book to read, but if you really want to get started in medical processes, I recommend starting with the book 'Medical Ninjutsu: A Compilation of Human Knowledge'..."
She continued talking for a few minutes — using several terms that I didn't understand and causing me to completely lose track of what she was saying — until she mentioned something interesting:
"... The best way to start is by finding a tutor who can effectively teach you the principles of medical ninjutsu. It will save you many hours of study, and also..." She continued.
'A tutor... if not Tsunade, who could I learn from?' I thought, ignoring the rest of what she was saying.
"... And also—"
"Um, thank you very much for your help!" I interrupted her, bowed gratefully, and walked away, with the book under my arm, heading toward the shelves to pick up the book she had recommended.

The girl was a little perplexed and didn't understand why I had interrupted her and left.
I walked back toward the reception desk, and this time the lady was no longer coughing.
"Did you find what you were looking for?" she asked me curiously.
"Yes, I got these two. How do I take the books home?"
"Well, first you have to register..." She explained all the details.
I gave her my name, clan, and place of residence so that it could be recorded in her register, and I was finally able to leave the library with the two books that would help me learn the basics of medical ninjutsu.
'That was more boring than I imagined...' I looked at the books in my hands.
'I hope I have the patience to read all this. I'll make the effort to avoid future problems in the battles to come!'
I intended to work hard — even though it would be a pain to read countless technical terms and learn the different parts of the body — because that was the only way I wouldn't be limited to a small range of skills.
*
I started walking back home, and more and more new problems and conflicts kept arising that I would need to be willing to face head-on, or else I would be just another nobody in this ninja world.
As I thought about this, I came across some ninjas who were discussing the recent events in Konoha.
"Yeah, I never liked that Danzou, but I expected more from a ninja of his caliber..."
One of them commented, while the others agreed and continued the conversation, which, unfortunately, I didn't stay to hear the end of.
'So the scandals related to what Danzou did and what he planned to do have already been made public. Soon, people may start to sympathize with the Uchihas again. Obviously, this will probably take a few years, but things will definitely return to normal...'
I clenched one of my fists, which wasn't holding any books, when a thought invaded my mind, just as I neared my house.
'That is, if Obito doesn't destroy everything I plan to build... Maybe I should be more decisive in what I do to avoid conflicts like this...'
I shook my head.
"Okay. For now, I'll trust the Hokage, but at the first sign of trouble, I'll deal with the situation."
"Look, Mom, it's that boy who's always talking to himself." A child crossed in front of me, holding his mother's hand, who pulled him away from me.
"So young and so crazy..." she muttered as they both left Senju Park.
'Mental note: Don't externalize my thoughts in public,' I thought, blushing slightly, shy because they had heard me talking to myself.
