Chapter 17: 16: Kay's Secret
The incident with Naruko crying was quite an event. However, as a result, the relationship between Naruko and Satsuki grew stronger.
After the incident, Seiji postponed the training, and together with Satsuki, they focused on making Naruko feel better.
The relationship between Satsuki and Naruko went from being hostile to a healthy rivalry. Although Naruko and Satsuki still argued over Seiji, they had reached a kind of unspoken agreement and developed a fair competition. However, Seiji was oblivious to this agreement and would remain so for some time.
After that day, they continued training with determination. It took Naruko quite a while to maintain a steady flow of her chakra. Seiji had come to the conclusion that it was probably easier for her to use large amounts of chakra rather than a small, controlled flow.
The days passed, and a routine had been established: wake up, have breakfast, train, and have dinner, with small breaks in between to recharge.
During their usual breaks, Seiji and Satsuki would often play with Kay, who seemed to pretend not to enjoy their company with his usual disdainful look. Naruko watched with envy, but there was nothing she could do to change the cat's feelings.
As the days went by, Seiji's sixth birthday was approaching and was now imminent.
"Seiji, tomorrow is your birthday. Should I bring you a gift?"
Satsuki's question caught Seiji by surprise, as he had never received a birthday gift before. Seiji thought about it and realized he didn't really want anything. He decided to think about it a bit more in silence, as the three of them were currently relaxing.
Seiji's gaze rested on Satsuki and Naruko. The three of them were sitting on a small bench in Seiji's house. Satsuki and Naruko each had an arm wrapped around Seiji, their cheeks pressed against his skin.
Seiji wasn't aware that both girls had developed a certain addiction to his scent, often taking deep breaths to memorize his aroma.
"I don't really want anything... maybe a toy for Kay... since I don't really need anything."
Seiji answered honestly, as he didn't lack anything. His father had left enough money for him to live a long and comfortable life, so he had no real needs.
"Speaking of Kay... I haven't seen him today."
Naruko murmured. The girl had become quite aware of the cat's presence, as she constantly wished she could interact with him.
"Kay... sometimes disappears for a while. I've never looked for him, since he always comes back, so I don't really know where he goes in those cases."
The first time he disappeared, Kurenai was with Seiji, so she explained that it was normal behavior for cats and that they often liked to explore.
"Let's go look for him. Maybe we can find out what he's secretly up to..."
Naruko spoke with her eyes shining, thinking that if she discovered the cat's secret, she could use it to get closer to him.
Satsuki also seemed a bit intrigued and nodded with curiosity. After all, they were kids, and you can't suppress a child's curiosity.
"Alright... but where should we look?"
The three of them thought for a while. Satsuki was the first to come up with an idea and spoke:
"There's a park that cats often visit... maybe he's there."
Naruko jumped up and said:
"Let's go, no need to wait. Kay's secret awaits us."
Seiji, somewhat resigned, followed both girls. After all, he couldn't leave them unsupervised in the village.
Naruko led the way, even though she didn't know the destination. Behind her, Seiji and Satsuki followed calmly.
After a while, they arrived at the park and began their search. The place was full of kids, but because of Naruko's presence, they ignored them. Naruko didn't seem to care; besides, she already had Seiji and Satsuki, so she believed she didn't need anyone else.
The park was indeed full of cats, but they had a way to find Kay. Kay was special, as he reacted angrily to Naruko's presence, unlike the other cats who ran away in fear.
After a while, and almost giving up, they noticed a black cat in the distance.
It was Kay, and next to him was a pink-haired girl. They both seemed to be looking inside a box next to them.
Seiji approached curiously, along with the two girls. As they got closer, he could see the girl more clearly.

The pink-haired girl had beautiful green eyes. Unfortunately, her eyes were glassy, and it seemed she had been crying a bit.
"Ah, you have a huge forehead."
*Thud.*
For the first time since Naruko had been living with him, Seiji had hit her. However, Naruko had been quite rude and deserved the smack.
"Sorry, Naruko is a bit... Well, I'm really sorry."
Naruko rubbed her sore head, frowning, though she seemed to understand it was her fault.
Satsuki simply shook her head. Over time, she had gotten used to Naruko's personality.
"Sniff... are you going to make fun of me too?"
The girl asked sadly. Her eyes began to fill with tears again.
"No, we won't do that. We're just looking for Kay, my cat."
Seiji pointed to Kay, who looked at them angrily and then ignored them.
The girl looked at Seiji and then at Kay, and asked:
"Does Blackie's name is Kay? That's a nice name..."
The girl smiled and petted Kay, who surprisingly let her. Naruko, seeing the scene, pouted but remained silent.
"Does Kay come here often? He usually doesn't let anyone touch him... By the way, what's your name?"
Seiji asked curiously about the girl who was friends with Kay.
"Blackie... Kay comes and visits... his children... in the box, there's a little kitten. His mother was sick, and one day she never came back..."
The girl said, pointing to the box with sadness.
"Mmm, my name is Sakura Haruno..."
Seiji's eyes widened. In none of his assumptions about Kay's whereabouts had he ever thought his cat would have a child.
Hearing about the little kitten, Naruko and Satsuki ran to look inside the box.
"It's so cute..." (x2)
While the two girls admired the little kitten, Seiji decided to talk to the girl.
"Hi, Sakura. My name is Seiji Hoshino. You can just call me Seiji."
Seiji smiled. He was quite grateful to the girl, as she had taken care of his friend Kay's child.
Sakura looked at him, stunned. Her face turned slightly red.
Sakura was a very shy girl. She was often teased by the other kids, and no one had ever been kind to her. Seiji was the first person to be kind to her and not make fun of her for the size of her forehead.
"Oh... hi..."
Sakura spoke, still stunned, staring at Seiji's smiling face.
"Meow."
Kay looked at his owner with tired eyes. His owner had done it again.
Seiji continued asking for a while about Sakura's adventures with Kay, and it seemed they had known each other for some time. Additionally, Sakura mentioned that she had originally wanted to take the little kitten home, but her family wouldn't allow her to have pets.
"Don't worry, I can take care of Kay's child. It's no problem."
Seiji tried to ease Sakura's worries. Sakura hesitated for a moment and asked:
"Can we be friends? I want to visit Kay..."
Sakura asked shyly, lowering her head.
Seiji responded, puzzled.
"Of course, you can visit me whenever you want. You can also come and play with Naruko and Satsuki. They're always at home."
Sakura, hearing Seiji's words, began to sob.
"No one has ever wanted to be my friend... thank you."
Seiji didn't know what to do, so he simply did what he always did and hugged Sakura, trying to comfort her.
Naruko and Satsuki, seeing the scene, frowned and sighed in resignation.
After comforting Sakura, the trio said their goodbyes, not without inviting Sakura to Seiji's birthday party. Then, they headed home, carrying the box with Kay's unnamed child.
Additionally, Seiji took Satsuki to the Uchiha compound, taking advantage of the trip, which disappointed Satsuki. In the end, they said their goodbyes, and she promised to come to the party the next day.
