Naruto: Uchiha Rejects Konoha

Chapter 136: 136. The Puppet Army And Poisonous Fog

The sky darkened, and the night that should have brought peace instead weighed heavily on the ninjas of Amegakure.

The three coalition teams had camped outside the village for an entire day. If nothing unexpected occurred, the attack would commence soon.

Every ninja in Amegakure was aware of this, as the coalition forces made no effort to conceal their intentions.

The coalition advanced into Amegakure as planned.

However, unlike the earlier seamless approach, this time, they encountered fierce resistance from Amegakure's shinobi as soon as they neared the village's protective barrier.

Though the counterattack was intense, it proved ineffective against the elite forces of the five great villages.

After all, Amegakure was still a small nation. Even with figures like Hanzo, the legendary "Salamander" who once challenged Konoha, the fact remained—it was a minor village.

"Hmph! Is this the Akatsuki organization? They're nothing special…"

The Fourth Raikage knocked aside an Amegakure ninja with a single punch, sneering in disdain.

Under his leadership, the Kumogakure-Konoha coalition carved through their opponents like a hot knife through butter, advancing rapidly.

On the other side, Ōnoki's efficiency was similarly unparalleled. Dust Release rendered numbers irrelevant, and compared to the battles he had fought in the past, Amegakure's counterattack felt like a mere warm-up.

Mist Shinobi, led by Terumi Mei, progressed more cautiously. Yagami's warning had prompted her to slow the team's advance.

To avoid overextending, the Mist Shinobi forces stretched into a long line.

The vanguard led by Terumi Mei nearly matched Raikage's pace, but much of the rear guard, comprised of standard troops, remained in place.

"Something's off about the Mist Shinobi. Their forces aren't fully committing."

Tendō remarked, frowning as he observed the unusually drawn-out formation of Kirigakure's forces.

Weren't they supposed to attack together? Didn't they claim to harbour a deep grudge against the Akatsuki? Why did their charge lack conviction?

"This new Mizukage isn't simple. It seems she's sensed something…"

Tendō glanced at Obito. Terumi Mei's remarks at the Five Kage Summit indicated that Kirigakure's participation was primarily to uncover hidden motives.

"Your plan is too transparent. With so many sharp minds in the coalition, it's inevitable that one or two will figure it out."

Obito's voice was calm, but inwardly, he was frustrated. This situation was, after all, his miscalculation.

If Kirigakure hadn't been carelessly overlooked, the current predicament might not exist.

"Scorpion, it's your turn to act. It's fine if one Mist Shinobi force pulls back, but the other four villages must not catch on."

Tendō issued orders to Sasori. Obito's earlier statement was accurate; the strategy was flawed. The plan relied heavily on exploiting Raikage and Ōnoki's fighting instincts and the overconfidence from prior victories.

If the coalition continued to face no significant resistance, even the blind could sense something was amiss. As Kage, their instincts were too sharp to ignore.

The Amegakure ninja's counterattack served as bait, and Sasori's maneuver was another decoy, meant to lure the coalition deeper into the village and cluster their forces.

Ōnoki and the Fourth Raikage soon crossed paths. Just as they prepared to coordinate, screams erupted from the rear of their respective units.

Both leaders turned, fury etched on their faces. The coalition's medical ninjas were being systematically attacked by black-robed figures.

"Damn it!"

In a flash, the Fourth Raikage activated his Lightning Style Chakra Mode, closing the distance to one of the black-robed attackers. With a single punch, he obliterated the target.

But the sensation under his fist gave him pause—it wasn't flesh and blood. Instead, it felt like something solid.

"Puppets? A Sunagakure rogue ninja!"
