Chapter 37: Chapter 37

Boom!

Hyuga Chinano didn't understand why their legs colliding sounded like an explosion, but that was exactly what happened. It was like two cannonballs slamming into each other midair. However, having analyzed their fighting styles before, she knew who would come out on top in a direct clash.

"It has to be Zixu. That swordsman isn't strong enough to overpower him head-on…"

Aburame Hatsuizumi muttered knowingly. She was well aware of Zixu's insane physical strength. She had once challenged him to a head-on confrontation back when she was young and overconfident. The result? Zixu had to buy her ice cream for an entire month just to make up for it.

The intense heat from the impact melted the ice, creating a thin mist around them. As the vapor slowly faded, their figures reappeared in everyone's sight—but the outcome wasn't as one-sided as Hatsuizumi had expected.

Haku's calf was encased in a thick layer of diamond-like ice, remnants of his defensive technique. Zixu's Supreme Slippers had shattered most of it, but the broken shards had disrupted his momentum. Using the ice's inertia, Haku had reinforced his leg's durability, reducing the damage he took. Instead of being seriously injured, he had merely been sent flying backward.

Zixu smacked his lips in frustration.

"Man, chakra is seriously useful. If I combine it with the right ninjutsu training, I could take this to the next level…" He briefly entertained the thought before shifting his focus to his footwear.

"As expected of the Supreme Slippers. They may not have any special abilities, but they sure as hell are durable."

Haku twisted midair to disperse the impact, landing smoothly with one hand pressing against the ground, his scabbard bracing his stance.

"Your taijutsu is impressive. I learned a lot from that clash," he admitted, dusting himself off and rubbing his calf. Even with his technique absorbing most of the force, his legs were still sore. This guy is better suited to being a reckless powerhouse than a ninja… no, even as a samurai, he's ridiculously strong.

Tenzō stepped forward, offering Zixu a rare nod of approval.

"Your taijutsu is solid. It's clear you put in a lot of training. In high-level battles, taijutsu is invaluable—relying too much on ninjutsu can be a mistake. Hah, I know someone who'd love your fighting style, but he's out on a mission right now… shame."

Zixu nodded, unfazed. He had no intention of hiding his physical prowess—there were plenty of taijutsu users in Konoha. He could think of at least two off the top of his head: a green spandex-wearing maniac with thick eyebrows and a certain pink-haired girl whose punches could level mountains.

Tenzō gestured for Chinano and Hatsuizumi to step forward. He then went into a brief lecture about the importance of taijutsu as a foundation.

"Chinano, your Gentle Fist (Jūken) is too rigid. You need to adapt better to actual combat situations."

"Hatsuizumi, your taijutsu is too weak. You can't just rely on your insects to fight for you."

After finishing his assessments, his tone shifted. He rummaged through his backpack for a moment before finally pulling out three pieces of chakra paper.

At some point, Chinano's little panda had crawled over, staring curiously at Tenzō's backpack with its big, round eyes. No one knew what it was thinking.

"If you understand your chakra nature, you'll be able to perform similar techniques in the future," Tenzō explained, pointing at Haku, who was currently reporting to a masked figure nearby.

"So, let's test your chakra affinities now. I was planning to wait until you had more training, but since you've reached the necessary level, we'll do it early."

He handed a chakra paper to each of them, his gaze sharp with expectation.

"So, what do we do? Inject chakra into it? Or eat it?"

Hyuga Chinano made a rare joke, but she already had a rough idea of what to do. Without hesitation, she channeled her chakra into the paper. Meanwhile, Aburame Hatsuizumi picked up his own chakra paper, eyeing it curiously as if he was seriously considering tasting it.

"Just inject your chakra into it," Tenzō instructed, shaking his head. "Depending on your chakra's nature, the paper will react differently. There are five basic elements: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water. Chakra of each element will cause the paper to burn, split in half, wrinkle, break apart, or become wet, respectively."

As he spoke, Chinano's paper began to change. The once pristine sheet grew damp before completely dissolving into a soggy mess.

"Oh? Water-natured chakra, huh? The Second Hokage was a master of Water Release (Suiton). His techniques were renowned throughout the shinobi world. If you get the chance, check out the archives in the library—you'll find plenty of useful material there," Tenzō remarked.

Chinano nodded in understanding. Now that she knew her chakra nature, she could focus on learning techniques suited to it. She had heard of many shinobi who blindly attempted elemental techniques without knowing their affinity—most failed miserably, and some even suffered severe backlash due to incompatibility.

Seeing Chinano finish her test, Hatsuizumi and Zixu followed suit, channeling their chakra into the paper. While they focused, Tenzō continued his explanation.

"Each chakra nature follows a cycle of strengths and weaknesses: Fire beats Wind, Wind beats Lightning, Lightning beats Earth, Earth beats Water, and Water beats Fire."

"When techniques of the same nature collide, the outcome depends on the amount of chakra infused. If equal, they cancel each other out. But if one shinobi pours in more chakra, their technique can overpower the other's. In these cases, the losing side can even end up getting hit by their own jutsu, suffering greater damage as a result."

As he spoke, the results of their tests emerged.

The chakra paper in Hatsuizumi's hands crumbled into tiny fragments that scattered in the wind.

"Earth nature, huh?" He smirked, adjusting his glasses with a devious glint in his eyes. "Earth trumps Water, Chinano! Looks like I'll be the one with the upper hand in the future. If I win, you're treating me to barbecue!"

Meanwhile, something unusual happened with Zixu's paper. At first, it seemed to catch fire, but then it looked like it was splitting in half. Before either reaction could fully manifest, the paper abruptly wrinkled into a tight ball.

"???"

"Huh? What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Tenzō muttered, momentarily thrown off. He had never seen such a result before.

After a brief pause, he made a hesitant conclusion.

"Since it wrinkled in the end, it's most likely Lightning-natured chakra," he said, though his voice lacked confidence. Even so, the final result pointed toward Lightning Release (Raiton).

Clearing his throat, he shifted the topic.

"Ahem. Let's not dwell on that for now. Discovering your chakra nature is just the first step. There are still three stages of elemental mastery to go through."

He raised three fingers and continued.

"Stage One: Strengthening 'Nature Transformation' (Seishitsu Henka)."

"For example, with Wind Release (Fūton), before you can slice a leaf in half, you must continuously refine your chakra control. The same goes for Earth Release (Doton); you need to keep channeling chakra until you can crumble the leaf to dust."

"Stage Two: Increasing the Output in an Instant."

"Let's use Wind Release as an example again. To refine your power, you'll train by slicing through waterfalls. The goal is to increase the amount of chakra you unleash in a single moment."

"Stage Three: Combining 'Nature Transformation' with Shape Transformation (Keitai Henka)."

"This is the hardest part—the fusion of elemental chakra with a specific jutsu. Only by mastering this step can you truly maximize your affinity's potential."

Tenzō's gaze swept over the group, waiting to see their reactions.
