Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Raikage vs. Eight-Tails
Rumble!!
Gyūki's enormous body fully emerged, collapsing nearby houses under its sheer weight. With a single turn, its massive tail swept across the street, flattening everything in its path.
Dust filled the air as cries of grief echoed around the ruined street. Slowly, terror spread throughout the entire village of Kumogakure.
Villagers further away, who had not yet been affected, began moving toward the shelters in an orderly manner. However, due to the suddenness of the incident, there wasn't enough time for everyone to evacuate. Those on this street were now trapped, the area packed with panicked civilians.
Screams and wails filled the air as nearby Kumo Ninja risked their lives to maintain order, trying to help the villagers escape.
In the face of Gyūki's overwhelming presence, the ordinary villagers were gripped by paralyzing fear. The looming shadow of death hung heavily over them.
For the Kumo Ninja, the immediate priority was evacuation; combat troops would arrive soon.
Gyūki's massive hands moved as if playing with toys, casually crushing buildings into rubble. It picked up the debris and hurled it at the crowd on the street, driven by nothing but the desire to destroy and kill after years of imprisonment.
Nearby Kumo Ninja destroyed the debris midair using Lightning Release techniques. The leader among them, a brave-looking ninja, shouted, "Protect the women and children first! Let's go!"
Overcoming his fear, the leader charged toward Gyūki with his subordinates, trying desperately to halt its rampage.
The colossal Tailed Beast, towering several times higher than the surrounding buildings, didn't even acknowledge their attacks. It ignored the kunai and Lightning Release Ninjutsu as they struck harmlessly against its thick skin.
With a single flick of its tail, Gyūki sent the Kumo Ninja flying dozens of meters away. None survived.
The resulting gust of wind knocked nearby villagers and ninja off balance, adding to the chaos.
Against a Tailed Beast of Gyūki's magnitude, ordinary ninja had no chance. Yet, despite their hopelessness, more Kumo Ninja continued charging forward, undeterred.
They fought not for glory, but for the safety of the village and the beliefs they held dear.
"Monster! Run!"
"Save my child!"
"My leg is pinned! Someone help me!"
...
People continued fleeing from the collapsing houses, while others remained trapped under the rubble.
The attacks by the Kumo Ninja not only failed to harm Gyūki but seemed to provoke him further.
"Oww~" Gyūki roared, swinging his massive arms. A torrent of dense Tailed Beast Chakra surged outward, knocking the attacking Kumo Ninja away effortlessly. They couldn't block Gyūki's movements, let alone get close to him.
As time passed, Gyūki appeared to grow bored of swatting away his attackers.
Raising his colossal head, he began gathering a large amount of Chakra in front of his mouth. Within moments, a Tailed Beast Ball began to take shape, its ominous energy radiating across the battlefield.
"Oh no, it's a Tailed Beast Ball!"
"We can't stop it!"
"The village is going to be destroyed!"
One of the Kumo Ninja stood frozen in fear, his eyes wide with terror. He couldn't even summon the courage to run as he watched the Tailed Beast Ball leave Gyūki's mouth, heading straight for the center of the village—the direction of the Raikage Building.
Gyūki's aim was devastatingly accurate.
"How dare you!"
A thunderous shout rang out as a blinding blue flash of lightning streaked through the air, colliding with the Tailed Beast Ball in an instant.
"It's Lord Raikage!"
"We're saved!"
"Kill the monster!"
...
The shouts of the Kumo Ninja and villagers filled the air, a testament to Raikage's revered status in the village. At this moment, he was their savior, lifting them from despair.
Boom!
A deafening explosion echoed, and a violent shockwave spread in all directions. Smoke and dust rose, completely obscuring the scene.
Before the dust had settled, a streak of blue lightning burst out from the center of the explosion.
"Hurry and move the villagers to the shelter, and prepare the barrier," commanded the Third Raikage.
He stopped a short distance from Gyūki, his expression grave as he faced the fully manifested Eight-Tails. The murderous intent in his eyes was palpable, revealing his readiness to end the rampage.
The Raikage's reputation as a formidable warrior was well-earned. Bare-chested, standing against the power of the Tailed Beast, he showed no signs of injury—untouched, as though he had simply brushed off the earlier impact of the Tailed Beast Ball.
Had Kawakaze been present to witness the scene, he would likely have marveled enviously at Raikage's seemingly impenetrable defense.
"Yes, Lord Raikage!"
Several Kumo Ninja responded, scattering into position to deploy a barrier as soon as an opening presented itself. Others continued aiding in the evacuation of villagers, their spirits lifted after seeing the Raikage deflect the Tailed Beast Ball.
Gyūki, meanwhile, locked his gaze on the small figure in front of him—the one who had beaten him down so many times in the past. Now, fully unleashed, Gyūki saw his chance for revenge.
Wasting no time, Gyūki swung a massive tentacle at the Raikage with incredible speed. The attack came so quickly that it reached the Raikage in the blink of an eye, accompanied by a gust of wind strong enough to sting the skin. The sheer force of the blow was a testament to Gyūki's rage.
"Damn Konoha!" The Raikage cursed under his breath. He could already deduce that this disaster was orchestrated by Kawakaze and Orochimaru.
The thought of having underestimated their movements gnawed at him, but now was not the time to dwell on it. If Gyūki's rampage continued, Kumogakure itself could be destroyed.
Raikage moved with lightning speed, intercepting and blocking the incoming tentacles. His experience fighting the Eight-Tails showed in his precise, deliberate movements.
Landing on solid ground, he glanced at Gyūki, who was howling furiously at the sky. Turning to a Kumo kunoichi nearby, he issued a calm but urgent order:
"When I tie him up, teleport us away together."
The kunoichi nodded, and if Kawakaze had been present, he might have noticed that this Kumo kunoichi bore a striking resemblance to Mabui, the future secretary of the Fourth Raikage.
"Are you sure there won't be any problems?" the Kumo kunoichi asked hesitantly. Her teleportation techniques were primarily used for objects, and she had never tried transporting a person. The thought of accidentally harming the Raikage filled her with dread—such a failure would make her a criminal in Kumogakure.
"Don't worry. There won't be any problems," Raikage replied with absolute confidence in his own defenses.
"Good," the Kumo kunoichi said, nodding as she decided not to argue further. She slowly began moving closer to Gyūki.
"How dare you!"
Raikage shouted as he saw Gyūki beginning to gather energy for another Tailed Beast Ball. His heart filled with urgency. Kumogakure couldn't survive multiple Tailed Beast Balls.
With a burst of power, Raikage launched himself forward in a flash of blue lightning. Moving with incredible speed, he avoided Gyūki's flailing tentacles and delivered a powerful kick to its head, the impact crackling with a sharp "zila." The blow sent Gyūki's head askew, dispersing the incomplete Tailed Beast Ball into harmless energy.
Hum!
A transparent barrier rose around the Raikage and Gyūki, trapping them both inside. The Barrier Team had seized the perfect opportunity to act.
Inside the barrier, Raikage engaged Gyūki in close combat.
"Hell Stab, Piercing Four Fingered!" The Raikage roared, the lightning on his four fingers blazing even brighter. With a ferocious stomp, he propelled himself like a cannonball, striking Gyūki's neck with devastating force.
"Oww~" Gyūki roared in pain, his massive head slamming uncontrollably into the barrier.
The confined space limited Gyūki's movements, but his raw strength remained formidable. Recovering from the blow, Gyūki raised his massive fists and slammed them against the barrier.
The barrier, which had held against the power of the Two-Tails in the past, now trembled violently under Gyūki's assault. Each punch sent shockwaves rippling through the structure. A few more hits, and it would shatter.
The Barrier Team Ninja poured all their Chakra into maintaining the seal, but Gyūki's strength far exceeded that of the Two-Tails. Cold sweat dripped down their foreheads, and their faces grew pale as their energy drained rapidly.
It was clear they couldn't hold out much longer.
"Hurry up and do it!" Raikage shouted, urgency clear in his voice. Without the barrier to trap the Eight-Tails, teleportation would be impossible, and if Gyūki escaped, Kumogakure would face utter devastation.
This was a one-time opportunity. Gyūki wasn't a mindless beast, and hesitation would only worsen the situation.
Hearing Raikage's command, the Kumo kunoichi quickened her movements, darting to the front of the barrier. Forming a hand seal, she poured a massive amount of Chakra into the barrier, enveloping both Gyūki and the Raikage.
"Heavenly Transfer Technique!"
In an instant, Gyūki and the Raikage vanished. The immense strain of teleporting both the Tailed Beast and Raikage proved too much, and the Kumo kunoichi collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
The Barrier Team, only slightly better off, quickly lifted the barrier and rushed to assist their fallen comrade. Each of them pulled out Military Rations Pills, knowing there was no time to relax just yet.
Moments later, a loud explosion echoed from the distant beach.
The Raikage and Gyūki had been successfully teleported away, averting the immediate crisis in Kumogakure.
The team let out a collective sigh of relief—their efforts had not been in vain.
With the danger temporarily resolved, the Kumo Ninja shifted focus to rescuing the wounded. Thankfully, the timely teleportation had prevented further destruction elsewhere.
However, the street where Gyūki had rampaged was left in complete ruin. Not a single building remained intact; debris was scattered everywhere, and countless bodies lay among the wreckage.
The crisis had ended, but grief lingered heavily in the air. Many had lost loved ones and comrades, and the village was engulfed in sorrow.
Though the immediate battle was over, the larger fight was far from finished. Someone else had taken up the burden of dealing with Gyūki on the beach.
Had the Eight-Tails continued its rampage within the village, the destruction would have rivaled the Nine-Tails' attack on Konohagakure during the original story.
While there was a gap in raw power between the two Tailed Beasts, the devastation caused by either was undeniably catastrophic. The Nine-Tails' unparalleled strength, was equivalent to much of the Ten-Tails, underscored the terrifying potential of Tailed Beasts.
For the civilians and average ninja, the distinctions between the Tailed Beasts meant little—they were forces of nature, impossible to resist.
Fortunately, both Konoha and Kumogakure had individuals capable of rivaling Tailed Beasts. This was both a blessing and a curse. Without the means to restrain Tailed Beasts, villages would not dare attempt to harness their power in the first place.
The fierce battle at the shoreline raged on as the elite ninja of Kumogakure made their way there.
Among them, one ninja carried a massive altar with a wooden lid tied shut with a white rope. This was the Amber Purification Jar, one of the Five Treasures left behind by the Sage of Six Paths.
The Raikage had prepared to seal Gyūki, knowing that Blue B was beyond saving. As much as it pained him, there was no other choice. After so many years as partners, admitting defeat was bitter, but necessary.
The Raikage fought Gyūki with anger and regret burning in his heart. The disaster was born from his own actions—his attack on Konoha had led to this calamity, and he could blame no one but himself.
On the battlefield, the Raikage's unparalleled physical strength clashed with Gyūki's vast Chakra reserves. The Third Raikage, whose body was famed as the toughest in the ninja world, stood toe-to-toe with the Eight-Tails, whose power dwarfed all other Tailed Beasts except for the Nine-Tails.
The two were evenly matched, just as they had been in the original story, where their battles stretched on for days without a clear victor.
Man and beast fought relentlessly, exchanging blows in a raw, primal clash of strength. Lightning sparked from Raikage's body, while Gyūki's crimson Tailed Beast Chakra burned fiercely, their power colliding in deafening explosions.
The Kumo Ninja watching from a distance were frozen with fear. The sheer ferocity of the battle made them hesitate, none daring to approach the epicenter of the conflict.
Caught in such a crossfire, survival was anything but guaranteed.
