Chapter 12: Chapter 12: He came!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What!"
Suddenly, a shout echoed in the distance!
On the previously empty ground, a few drops of blood dripped down.
"How is this possible?! How did you discover my presence?"
A shocked voice rang out as an invisible ninja suddenly appeared next to Nohara Rin. A dull shuriken was embedded in his chest.
He stumbled back in disbelief before collapsing to the ground.
"Heh, don't underestimate me."
Obito, still leaning against Rin for support, smirked weakly, his hand still in the motion of throwing the shuriken.
"Dashi!"
"Damn it! You saw through Dashi's jutsu? Kagerō, Kumo! Go kill those two brats, I'll deal with this Jōnin!"
The enemy leader quickly issued orders.
Kakashi could hardly believe what he was seeing.
Then he noticed Obito's eyes.
Two crimson tomoe spun in his pupils!
"The Sharingan! Obito awakened the Sharingan! That's right, the Sharingan is the natural counter to all illusions—it can definitely see through invisibility!"
Kakashi's fighting spirit reignited.
"Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
A barrage of shuriken shot toward the enemy leader.
"Hah, you think such a low-level trick will work on me?" The leader scoffed, casually tossing a kunai to deflect the incoming projectiles.
But the moment they clashed—
Boom!
A violent explosion rocked the air.
"Tsk, exploding tags? Ridiculous. You think such an obvious trick will fool me?" The leader sneered and charged at Kakashi.
But Kakashi smirked.
The plan worked.
The two clashed.
"Haha, brat, you may be clever, but you're still just a kid! No matter how talented you are, you're no match for me!"
The leader laughed as Kakashi struggled to keep up.
He was right—while Kakashi was a prodigy, he was still young. No matter how refined Konoha's taijutsu techniques were, his lack of experience put him at a disadvantage.
After only a few exchanges, Kakashi was already losing ground.
Meanwhile, Nohara Rin watched with growing unease.
She wasn't a combat-oriented ninja. If not for Obito guiding her with his Sharingan, she wouldn't have even landed that shuriken hit earlier.
"Give up, kid! You're dead!" The leader roared.
But despite the disadvantage, Team Seven showed no signs of backing down. Their fighting spirit only burned stronger.
Because they all realized one thing—
The detonating tag had gone off.
Help was coming.
"The outcome of this battle... is still undecided!" Kakashi gritted his teeth, enduring the leader's attacks. Just when he was about to be overwhelmed—
A figure appeared.
Eyes glowing faintly.
A chilling presence.
"Who?!"
The leader of the Iwagakure squad screamed, but before he could react—
A shuriken embedded itself in his throat.
"Your worst nightmare."
The figure kicked him aside before vanishing again—only to reappear beside Nohara Rin.
"Shinra Tensei!"
With a roar, a white shockwave erupted from Akira, sending the remaining enemies flying.
Their necks twisted unnaturally.
Dead.
"Sensei! You finally came! I knew you'd save us!"
Rin threw herself at Akira in relief, making him a little embarrassed.
"What a mess. You guys almost got wiped out—I nearly had a heart attack!" Akira wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.
And then, it finally hit him.
This mission.
The Kannabi Bridge Incident.
He had read about it before—mentioned briefly in Minato's memories in the original story.
But in the original timeline, Minato led the mission.
Instead, he was here now.
And this was no ordinary mission.
In the original story, Team Seven was ambushed at Kannabi Bridge.
Nohara Rin was implanted with the Three-Tails and later died.
Kakashi lost an eye.
Obito gave Kakashi his Sharingan—only to be crushed under a boulder and ultimately fall into the hands of Madara.
"Damn it. I actually forgot such an important event! What a major oversight!"
Akira clenched his fists in frustration.
A major event in Naruto's history—how could he forget?!
Fortunately, he made it in time.
If things had gone differently… he'd never forgive himself.
He exhaled deeply.
"Alright, since everyone is safe, let's get out of here. I sensed a lot of Iwa nin nearby, and they'll probably come soon."
Akira spoke confidently.
…That was a lie.
If not for Kakashi's explosion earlier, Akira would still be asleep right now.
But whether it was true or not, he just wanted to leave now.
This was Kannabi Bridge. The heart of the battlefield.
Even if no enemies were here yet, the fight would escalate soon.
"Alright, let's move!"
Kakashi nodded, tossing a few more exploding tag-shuriken at the bridge before hoisting Obito onto his back.
"Let's go."
Everyone quickly fell into step, prepared to retreat—
But just as they were about to leave—
A figure lunged at Akira from behind.
The enemy leader—who had taken a shuriken to the heart—suddenly sprang forward, refusing to die.
"I won't let you ruin our master's plans—die with me!"
His hand clutched a shuriken.
An exploding tag was attached to it.
"Sensei, watch out! There's an explosive tag on that shuriken!" Kakashi shouted.
Shit!
This was supposed to be the tool Kakashi used to blow up Kannabi Bridge—
And now, it was aimed directly at Akira.
Before Akira could react—
The enemy leader grabbed him.
"Shit!"
As a modern-era person, Akira's combat instincts were still lacking. He instinctively activated Shinra Tensei to blast the man away—
But he was too late.
The explosive tag detonated.
A fiery explosion engulfed the battlefield.
Smoke and dust filled the air.
"Teacher!"
Rin's scream echoed through the chaos.
As the dust settled—
A charred log lay in Akira's place.
A classic Substitution Jutsu.
A few meters away, Akira emerged from behind a tree, panting.
"Shit… that was close."
If not for Anko teaching him the Substitution Jutsu before he left, he'd be dead right now.
Cold sweat dripped down his back.
For the mission, the enemy had been willing to sacrifice himself.
In a way, that kind of determination was admirable.
But not when the target was Akira himself.
And definitely not today.
