Chapter 9: Chapter 9: New Mission
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Akira never imagined that his accidental mistake would lead to such devastating consequences for Konoha.
After visiting several markets and failing to find a suitable job, Akira decided to try his luck at the Hokage's office.
This was an extraordinary time, and most ninjas survived by taking on bounty missions released by the Hokage. As an outsider, Akira had no idea how things worked. Ordinary shops outside the village would never hire someone like him.
Thus, if Akira wanted to survive, his only option was to speak with the Third Hokage.
Knock, knock.
Akira knocked on the door of the Hokage's office.
"It's deserted here," he muttered, frowning.
Along the way, he had seen nothing except a young man who looked like Shikamaru leaving in a hurry.
"Please come in."
In the office, Hiruzen Sarutobi's voice came.
Akira walked in, pretending to be neither humble nor overbearing.
His current image was very mysterious—so mysterious that everyone regarded him as a super master, and a master must naturally carry the temperament of one. Hence, his attitude was not humble.
"Third Hokage, long time no see," Akira said lightly, then found a stool and sat down.
"Yes, long time no see," the Third Hokage replied.
Akira felt something was off. Was the old man's attitude strange today? It felt a little cold.
But did I provoke him? Akira thought, slightly confused. His current situation forced him to continue the conversation.
"Master Hokage, you know my situation. Although you've allowed me to travel freely in Konoha, I'm a traveler and I don't even have money for food. I was wondering if there are any simple bounty missions available. I want to help Konoha and earn some pay in the process."
"Bounty missions?" Hiruzen Sarutobi was startled for a moment.
It then occurred to him that what Akira said wasn't unreasonable. Although he had allowed Akira to stay in the village, the kid really had no money to eat, which was a bit embarrassing.
"There are a few bounty missions, but they're all confidential tasks of Konoha, not suitable for outsiders. As for low-level tasks, the reward is only a few hundred ryō. I'm sure you wouldn't bother with them," Hiruzen Sarutobi shook his head.
"A few hundred ryō? I'll do it!" Akira suddenly exclaimed.
A few hundred ryō in the Naruto world was equivalent to a few hundred yen in the real world. A bowl of ramen costs around forty ryō, so a few hundred ryō would be enough for Akira to eat several meals.
"I want those few hundred ryō!" Akira yelled in his mind but couldn't say it out loud.
After all, he was a master, and masters carried themselves with a certain air.
"Well… the amount is small, but how can one refuse to help others because of a lack of money? I think I can still manage it," Akira said nonchalantly.
"Hm?" Hiruzen Sarutobi raised an eyebrow, not expecting Akira to respond like that. However, he didn't bother talking further. Even if Akira was willing to take on low-level tasks, he wasn't eager to hand them out.
After all, Akira had forced Minato away.
In truth, every individual had personal feelings, even the Hokage, who was in a high position.
Just as he was about to send Akira away, three teenagers rushed into the office.
"Master Hokage! Our teacher has gone out on a mission! When will he be back? What are we supposed to do in the meantime?"
The three teenagers chattered non-stop.
Akira didn't pay them much attention.
He glanced casually at the three who had rushed in—two boys and a girl, about thirteen or fourteen years old.
One boy was quite handsome, while the girl looked soft and delicate.
"Why does this white hair look so familiar?" Akira thought, and then, after looking at another boy wearing goggles, he suddenly realized!
"It's Hatake Kakashi and Uchiha Obito!"
Wait, Minato was their teacher before!
"Master Hokage, did the teacher really leave?" the group asked hurriedly.
"Yes, your teacher is on a secret mission, but don't worry, he'll be back soon," Hiruzen Sarutobi replied, though he cast a vague glance at Akira.
"What's this old man looking at? I don't understand," Akira thought, then shifted his gaze to the face of the only girl.
"This is Rin Nohara. She's really cute. With a figure like that at such a young age, no wonder Obito and Kakashi are so jealous. A beauty like her is trouble."
Akira smirked as he looked at Nohara Rin, but this scene didn't go unnoticed by Uchiha Obito.
Obito's sharp Sharingan noticed Akira's subtle glance, and he immediately reacted.
"Who are you, bastard? What are you looking at? I'll beat you to a pulp!"
Akira shook his head.
"No wonder Rin Nohara doesn't like him; he's so immature. Kakashi is much more sensible. He must be the one Rin likes," Akira thought sarcastically.
Hiruzen Sarutobi grew anxious.
Akira was a mysterious master in his eyes, and Obito's disrespectful words worried him. He didn't want to see Akira lash out at the kid.
After all, Akira was the one who had forced Minato away.
"What did you say? This is our honored guest of Konoha. Show some respect!" Hiruzen Sarutobi reprimanded.
"How could such a perverted guest exist? Who knows who he's staring at?" Obito sneered.
"You brat…" Sarutobi was about to snap, but Nohara Rin quickly bowed to Akira.
"Sorry, sir. Obito is always like this, but he's a good guy. Please don't take it personally."
Obito, however, wasn't pleased.
"My goddess just apologized to another guy! I can't take this!" Obito thought as he made a challenging gesture toward Akira.
"You! I want to challenge you one-on-one!" He pointed his middle finger at Akira.
Akira furrowed his brow.
"What an idiot. Kakashi next to him is so composed, not saying a word. That's the mark of a true handsome guy. Obito, you don't deserve any girls," Akira thought, and then swiftly dodged Obito's attack.
The easiest way to stop someone's mouth was to do it physically.
Bang!
Before Obito could react, Akira had already pressed him firmly to the ground. Since Obito was still a child, Akira didn't hit him hard.
"So fast!" Kakashi's eyes flickered, and Hiruzen Sarutobi, sitting in his chair, was also surprised.
When Orochimaru had mentioned Akira, he never mentioned that Akira could perform the Flying Thunder God Technique so quickly. This would certainly improve his evaluation of him.
