Chapter 9: Slaying the Special Jonin (Part 1)
Under the cover of night, the Hyuga clan ninjas infiltrating the Uchiha compound leaped across the rooftops, soon spotting a large group of figures gathered in front of the central meeting hall.
"What's going on? Did our plan leak? Are they lying in wait for us?" asked Hyuga Tenma, one of the two Special Jonin in the group.
Hearing his words, the other Hyuga ninjas hesitated, their steps faltering. If the Uchiha clan knew their plan, their chances of leaving alive were slim.
"Stay calm. As ninjas, we must remain calm at all times," the squad leader, and the only Jonin, said calmly. "Look closely at those people. They're mostly Uchiha clan children. They wouldn't be lying in wait for us, unless the Uchiha have gone mad."
The Hyuga ninjas peered at the gathering, and saw that they were indeed mostly children. They relaxed.
Hyuga Tenma still frowned. "Something feels off. Maybe the Uchiha are using those children as bait to lure us in and surround us."
The other Special Jonin snorted. He had never gotten along with Hyuga Tenma. "Don't be ridiculous. We saw with our own eyes that their Third Elder left with a large number of defense ninjas. Besides those kids, they don't have the strength to ambush us. If you're scared, just say so. You can tremble behind me. It's not the first time."
"Enough!"
Seeing that they were about to argue, the Hyuga Jonin scolded them. He couldn't allow his subordinates to bicker.
"Whatever the situation, we came this far, let's take a look. This opportunity is rare. If we succeed, we'll have done a great service to the clan."
"Yes, sir!"
Having received the order, everyone had to accept it. They sped up their approach to the meeting hall.
"They're here. They're fast!"
Kaito took a deep breath, gripping a kunai in each hand. Uchiha Madara also wanted to give him a katana, but Kaito said he wasn't used to it.
Thirteen Hyuga clan ninjas landed on the roof of the main hall. The Jonin, at the front, coldly surveyed everyone below. "What are you doing here?"
Uchiha Madara grinned, even more excited now. "We're waiting for you, of course!"
The Hyuga Jonin's eyes narrowed. "So, you know about our plan tonight?"
Uchiha Madara was impatient. He drew his katana and pointed it at the Jonin. "You ask too many questions. All you need to know is that tonight you'll die here, and become a stepping stone for Uchiha Madara's fame."
"I don't mean to interrupt, but your cliche-filled dialogue is making me cringe," Kaito said, looking at them both like they were monkeys. The two were oblivious, lost in their moment.
"Die here? Based on you?" The Hyuga Jonin snorted, as if he had heard the funniest joke. An eight-year-old Uchiha child was going to kill him? Ridiculous.
"Too much talk, Kaito. I'm going in. I'll leave the rest to you." Uchiha Madara crouched slightly and shot out, reaching the Jonin in a flash. His katana, reflecting the moonlight, came down on him.
"He's fast!"
Both the Hyuga Jonin and Kaito had the same thought.
However, the Hyuga Jonin was a Jonin after all. He sidestepped, easily dodging the blade, and drew his long sword, slashing back at Uchiha Madara with lightning speed.
Madara's eyes narrowed. In mid-air, he forced a twist, somehow managing to block the blow.
Clang!
The sound of metal on metal echoed through the area. Madara grunted, flying backwards. He had blocked the attack, but he still took a kick from the Jonin.
"Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!" While flying, Madara quickly formed hand seals and spat out a large fireball to block the Jonin's pursuit.
The exchange happened in an instant. The others were still trying to process the speed of the fight. They snapped out of their stupor and charged towards each other with shouts.
The only remaining Special Jonin, Uchiha Hayate, found himself facing one of the enemy Special Jonin. They fought fiercely, trading blows and unleashing ninjutsu, making it difficult for others to approach.
Hyuga Tenma chuckled to himself. He was certain now: there were no Uchiha hiding anywhere; just these kids. It was easy pickings. He imagined the rewards the clan would give him for his success, and whether he would be allowed to learn more powerful ninjutsu, finally allowing him to be promoted to Jonin.
As he daydreamed, a shadow fell over him. An Uchiha child was standing there, gazing at him with arrogant eyes.
"Hey, how about we make a deal?" Uchiha Kaito said.
"Is this kid crazy?" That was Hyuga Tenma's honest thought.
"Just kill yourself. It'll save you pain, and save me time. A win-win," Kaito said, his expression earnest.
"You little…"
Hyuga Tenma was enraged. He felt mocked by the kid in front of him. He drew his sword and thrust it at Kaito's chest.
This strike was filled with his anger, swift as lightning. Hyuga Tenma felt it was the best strike of his life. At this range, even a Jonin would have difficulty dodging it.
The sword pierced the other party's chest without resistance and could even see the shock on their face, which was a great relief.
Uchiha Kaito withdrew his shock expression and gave a sardonic smile: "Just kidding!"
"What?"
Before Hyuga Tenma could understand, Kaito's body suddenly surged. "Caw! Caw! Caw!" A series of crow calls suddenly rang out, and Kaito's body transformed into crows that flew in all directions. A group of crows landed not far away and reformed into Kaito's body.
"What kind of ninjutsu is that?"
The ninjutsu of the Warring States period were generally direct, straightforward methods of killing. Hyuga Tenma was seeing this ninjutsu, which should have only appeared a century later, for the first time. His heart was filled with doubts.
