Chapter 335: Promise
The next second, he turned and ran. This was because he saw the middle-aged woman had removed the spear from her back and chased after him with a bloody face.
The man, who was pressed under Fatty, was annoyed. He could tell that Fatty had not practised martial arts before. He only had impressive strength. However, they were too close, and he lost his club in the combat, so they could only trade blows. It was a plain test of endurance. He clearly had underestimated this Fatty. Fatty grabbed his neck with one hand and swung his other fist at his face crazily. At the same time, he shouted things like he would make him pay.
In his desperation, the man reached out to claw Fatty’s eyes. Fatty didn’t even avoid it. He opened his mouth and bit hard on the man’s fingers. This caused the man to scream. Fatty used this opening to shove dirt into the man’s maw. Then, he continued to land fist after fist on the man’s face until he was bruised.
While this was happening, a lot of people came to help the man on the ground, but Jiang Cheng stopped them. Jiang Cheng smacked a thin man on his neck, almost caving his head in.
Butler Zhou’s group had fear growing in their hearts once they witnessed the brutality of the travellers. An Xuan was like an Asura. He caught one of them and slowly moved his dagger across his throat. The enemy’s morale collapsed. An Xuan flung away the blood on his hands and dropped the man like he were trash. The man flopped to the ground as life departed from his eyes.
An Xuan stepped on the body and walked towards Butler Zhou. The dagger in his hands was still dripping blood. The remaining fighters gathered around Butler Zhou and slowly retreated. They were not as arrogant as when they first appeared.
Xia Meng and Jiang Cheng were both injured slightly. There was a cut on Xia Meng’s calf. It bled whenever she moved. Jiang Cheng was better. The injuries were limited to his upper half. He didn’t expect that Butler Zhou’s group would know how to use hidden weapons. Jiang Cheng chased him for a while before delivering the hidden weapons back to him.
Fatty’s side also ended. He swaggered over with blood on his face and body. His costume was ragged.
The travellers easily dispatched the rest. One of them had their arm twisted, but he still arched his back and tried to bite Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng kicked him, and he became silent. Fatty held a block of brick. It was sticky with blood. He wanted to use it to deal with Butler Zhou. After all… he was the main culprit.
Staring at the wounded and the dead, Jiang Cheng frowned with confusion. He stopped Fatty and scanned Butler Zhou’s face. Why were these people trying so hard?As the fight broke out, they should know they were no match for the travellers. However, they still threw themselves at them. No one tried to escape. Why? Some were so heavily injured that they could have easily pretended to be dead, but all of them struggled to stand up and fight until they couldn’t anymore. Other than a few main culprits, the rest were unimportant underlings. If they decided to turn and run, the travellers wouldn’t have chased after them. So, why didn’t they do that?
While no one was paying attention, Butler Zhou pulled out a dagger from his sleeve. He aimed it at An Xuan. An Xuan easily side-stepped it and then grabbed the man by his shoulder. There was a sharp crack.
Butler Zhou collapsed to the ground. Even so, he tried to crawl towards his dagger. The determination in his eyes was chilling.
“Stop!” A scream of despair echoed. It was the middle-aged woman. Two people walked out of the dark. It was Chen Qiang who had disappeared throughout the battle and the middle-aged woman. A knife was placed on Chen Qiang’s neck. He looked awkward as he appeared as the woman’s hostage.
“Let him go!” The middle-aged woman looked at the collapsed Butler Zhou and demanded from An Xuan, “Or I’ll kill him!”
The blade moved closer to Chen Qiang’s neck. However, to the woman’s surprise, other than Butler Zhou and Fatty, who looked like he was going to chop the former into pieces, the rest merely regarded her and her hostage with detachment. They didn’t look threatened at all.
“I told you.” Chen Qiang raised his hands and said helplessly, “It’s useless for you to grab me as your hostage.”
“Shut up!”
Chen Qiang sighed and became quiet. He looked at An Xuan probingly before quickly looking away. He eventually looked at Jiang Cheng, “Mr. Hao.” He began sincerely, “You saw how I had the thing. It is not on me now. I hid it. If… If I die, I’m afraid you won’t find it so quickly.”
Jiang Cheng thought about it and replied, “Don’t you worry about that. We can take our time to find it. We still have time.”
Chen Qiang, “...”
The woman looked lost. She thought that capturing one of them could subdue the others. Clearly, she had overvalued the importance of this man. She regretted not capturing one of the others.
Xia Meng suddenly suggested, “How about we both take a step back? Give us the man, and we’ll hand Butler Zhou back to you. What do you think?”
The woman agreed to it without hesitation. “Okay.” She glared at them. “You’ll stick to your words, right?”
“Of course,” Xia Meng nodded.
Butler Zhou stood up and staggered towards the middle-aged woman. The woman also moved the knife away from Chen Qiang’s neck. The middle-aged woman moved to catch Butler Zhou. The next second, as Butler Zhou watched on helplessly, a cold glint flashed in his eyes. Warm blood washed over his face.
The end of a sharp dagger was perfectly embedded into the middle-aged woman’s throat. Only the shivering hilt stayed outside. Life rapidly left the woman’s eyes. Then, she slumped to the ground.
Butler Zhou’s hands lingered in the air.
Chen Qiang used this chance to run back to the group of travellers. When he was surrounded by his teammates, he turned back and looked. The woman was on the ground, covered in blood.
An Xuan’s attack was precise and ruthless.
“Mom!”
The door opened, and a small body rushed out, screaming. She landed heavily beside the body of the dead woman.
Fatty halted for a second.
Xiao Wan…
