Chapter 154: Speculation_1
"Harry, call the doctor to treat her wounds. I want to interrogate this woman thoroughly!"
A cold light flashed in Dean's eyes.
This disgusting organization was too presumptuous! Crucially, the twisted ideas and intelligence revealed by the enemy made him uneasy. They had to be eliminated. Otherwise, he'd have to sleep with one eye open from now on.
Harry shrugged. "Alright, I'll keep an eye on her. But I'm curious, Dean, when did you manage to swipe my revolver and figure out this woman was trouble?"
"When you snatched my apple," Dean twirled the gun. "Besides, it's great. You've taken good care of it—the gun oil is smooth, it fires quickly, and it's pretty powerful. Overall, this revolver has character."
He knew something was off about the woman because a real FBI agent could have checked that he was now a special agent for the FBI. From the woman's behavior, however, she clearly wasn't aware of this. Just to be safe, he had secretly taken Harry's revolver, just in case. Of course, he had no intention of explaining this to Harry.
"You have a good eye!" Harry gave Dean a thumbs up and then pointed at the drawer next to them. "Your own baby is actually in the drawer, along with clothes, a cellphone, and whatnot. Also, I sent your mom a message saying you've gone for intensive training and will be out of touch for a few days."
Dean nodded, handing the revolver back to Harry. "That's very thoughtful of you, Harry. Thanks."
Harry put away the gun and, with the help of hospital security who had arrived at the commotion, dragged the howling woman to the operating room.
Once everyone had left the hospital room, Dean changed his clothes and opened the panel:
Character: Dean

Spirit: 13
Strength: 14

Skills: Pistol Proficiency, Ancient Muay Thai Mastery, Trace Tracking L2, Akaz School - Mind Reading Technique L2, Others (Click to view).
Attribute Points: 0
Skill Points: 1
Completed Cases: 14, Details Omitted.
Compared to before, his Endurance had increased from 11 to 12. It was this small improvement that allowed Dean, when reaching his body's limits, to hold out just a little longer and find an opportunity for a counter-attack.
But Dean wasn't too pleased. There's a limit to human strength. Even with his extraordinary efforts, far surpassing his capabilities when he first arrived, he had still nearly lost his life to a bomb. This is the restraint of a mortal body.
Speaking of which, my recent narrow escape was mainly due to that intermittently reliable sixth sense... Dean turned his focus to his Spirit attribute.
Since elevating his Spirit attribute to 13 points, not only had his memory and thought processing speed significantly improved, but he also gained a sixth sense—indescribable and akin to an animal's perception—for life-threatening dangers.
But this sixth sense was hit or miss. This kind of sixth sense was too important for someone living in a place where firearms were freely available, and one could face a shooting at any time! Next up, I need to prioritize raising my Spirit attribute to its limit and see if I can stabilize that magical sixth sense!
Contemplation flickered in Dean's eyes.
But the immediate priority was to deal with that fanatical 'Source of Pain' organization!
「...」
Dean checked the three handguns in the drawer one by one, concealed them on his person, and rechecked the magazines to make sure no bullets were missing and no one had tampered with his guns. Then, he picked up his cellphone and called Daisy.
He had asked Harry about it. Before Dean fell unconscious, the man whose limbs had been crippled had somehow ground his own face against the earth until it was unrecognizable. Then, he had used a sharp piece of rock to slit his throat and commit suicide.
That was far more ruthless than any so-called suicide soldiers. What a pity. The man had died for nothing. Because Dean had already remembered where he'd seen that man before! At the same time, a basic hypothesis about this case was forming in his mind. Now, Dean wanted Daisy's help to check some information to confirm his hunch!
The phone connected.
"Dean?" Daisy was undoubtedly thrilled to receive Dean's call. "You're awake?"
"Yes, I'm glad you're so concerned about me."
"I was just worried that if you died, you wouldn't be able to make good on that hot pot you promised. Anyway, how about this? I'll ask Robert to cover my shift, and I'll come see you now."
Daisy was tough on the outside but soft on the inside; she still wanted to check on his condition.
Yet Dean stopped her. "No need. How's the progress on Mike Smith's case now?"
She was in the Fourth Squad and usually well-informed about cases.
Daisy hesitated. "Dean, you should be resting and recuperating right now. Besides, the captain has already handed this case over to the FBI. Those people stirred up too much trouble; it's beyond the scope of what our Homicide Division can handle."
"But I was attacked again just now!"
Dean briefly explained what had just happened and probed, "Earlier, Harry and I were ambushed as soon as we arrived at that unlicensed clinic. Now, the moment the FBI takes over, this group also finds out. I suspect 'The Source of Pain' has a dedicated informant within the police department. Daisy, can I trust you now?"
Daisy stated matter-of-factly, "Of course! You're my big snack pack; I wouldn't screw you over! Besides, while you were unconscious, the Internal Affairs Department already investigated me, Harry, and Holz. They've figured out where the leak came from."
Dean toyed with a bullet in his hand. "The leak... was it from the inquiries made at Mike Smith's bank?" he speculated.
