Chapter 13: Part 13
"Cassandra, you can't talk out of turn. I told you that father's condition is very sensitive. If you talk nonsense, I'm afraid this will further ignite his emotions and make you even more sad. You better shut up and leave this place," Vivian reminded Cassandra in her usual contrived manner.
Cassandra only smiled slightly, "You're asking me to leave here? Do you have a reasonable reason?"
Vivian seemed to bite her lip, and her hands were clenched tightly. She was trying to restrain herself from getting angry and projecting a bad image of herself.
Jordan, who saw that, immediately squinted at Cassandra and held Vivian's shoulders gently. "What are you talking so nicely to her for? She doesn't deserve your courtesy at all!"
After saying this, Jordan again stepped closer to Cassandra with a sharp glare. But Cassandra still looked calm and folded her arms before her chest, waiting for what her betrayed ex-fiancé wanted to do.
"What are you going to say?" asked Cassandra calmly and deliberately, to Jordan's annoyance.
"Do I have to repeat myself?" asked Jordan with a sharp, unblinking stare. Then he spoke again slowly and intimidatingly. "I said get out of here and don't embarrass the Miller family!"
"Shame?" asked Cassandra as she covered her mouth and laughed. "I told you that my coming here has nothing to do with the Miller family, so you better step aside and make way for me!"
Cassandra pushed Jordan aside with her hand and stepped forward. But this time, her father blocked her again. The middle-aged man held Cassandra's hand and growled in annoyance.
"Cassandra, once again I say get out of here! You have nothing to do with the Miller family! We only brought three invitations this time while Jordan brought his own. We're here for business purposes anyway, a fool like you wouldn't understand the meaning of this meeting."
Her father's words sounded more hurtful this time than in previous years. When her presence at this event was unwanted by her family, they always spoke softly and persuaded Cassandra to understand.
But this time, the truth was out; they really never wanted her. Was it time for Cassandra to protest? There was no need. Cassandra no longer needed their pity.
Cassandra patted Geoffrey's arm gently and smiled faintly. "Mr. Miller, I knew you were only in your fifties, but I didn't expect you to be so senile. Didn't I say that my coming here was not for the Miller family, and as you said I am no longer a member of the Miller family. Then what was the point of you preventing me from coming?"
Geoffrey gasped, pointing his index finger at Cassandra, and swung it. This man seemed to want to say something but was at a loss for words, while his other hand seemed to be holding his left breast.
"Cassandra, look what you did to your father, you made his hypertension flare up! You immoral child!" Megan exclaimed, drawing the attention of the crowd.
At that moment, the crowd turned to them and started talking bad about Cassandra. Vivian certainly didn't waste this to put Cassandra on the spot.
"Cassandra, what are you thinking? I know you're disappointed in me because I was asked by Dad to manage the family hotel, but you can't hurt Dad like this. Look now you're making him sick, what if something bad happens?" Vivian retorted.
At that time, visitors made fun of Cassandra and said she was an unfilial daughter, and some even called Cassandra a murderer.
Geoffrey was clutching his chest, and his voice was getting lower and lower. He couldn't stand up straight anymore.
"Cassandra, if anything happens to my husband, you will be held responsible!" Megan threatened.
Cassandra smiled faintly, and anyone who saw her would have thought she was a disobedient child. "You guys are so funny, you have a sick family member, why are you staying here and holding me back? Shouldn't you be taking him to the hospital."
Cassandra then put one hand under her chin and nodded thoughtfully, "Hmm, who's being unfilial and making things worse? Me or you guys. Hasn't Mr. Miller told me repeatedly that I'm not a member of the Miller family anymore, meaning I no longer have any responsibility to this family, right? Then you guys who are family members why are you just silent seeing Mr. Miller like this? Hmm I'm beginning to suspect something...."
Cassandra deliberately stopped her words and looked around. Then, she seemed to challenge the other visitors. That's when the visitors were again astonished by Cassandra.
"What do you suspect Cassandra? Do you think that your father is just pretending?" asked Megan.
"Hmm, it's not me saying that, but you guys!" replied Cassandra, then turned to the waiting visitors. "I guess I'll let them judge."
The visitors started whispering again, and some confirmed that Geoffrey Miller was only pretending to be sick to get sympathy. Jordan immediately took action to save the Miller family.
"Let me take Geoffrey to the hospital, you call security to get rid of that woman!" Jordan ordered Vivian. Jordan took Geoffrey by the shoulders and led him. Then, she received compliments from the crowd, and Geoffrey smiled triumphantly and glanced at her.
Vivian quickly called the security guards and asked them to evict Cassandra immediately.
"Get that rioter! She tried to sneak in and make my father's illness flare up. I'm afraid she'll cause even more trouble!" Vivian exclaimed while pointing a finger at Cassandra.
The security guard immediately approached Cassandra and asked her to show the invitation. Cassandra smiled slightly at Vivian, who was now smiling mockingly at her and Megan. She took out her VIP invitation and showed it to the scary-faced security guard.
The security guard checked the invitation and matched it to the tablet they had brought. "You, Mrs. Cassandra Parker?"
"Yes, do you need to see my ID?" replied Cassandra.
The officer shook his head quickly, and they both bowed. "Forgive us ma'am. We were totally negligent in welcoming you. As a VIP invitee you have first access."
The officer began to make way for Cassandra and immediately opened the door for her. Meanwhile, the Miller family who saw her were gaping in disbelief. Geoffrey, pretending to be sick, kept pointing at Cassandra, who was turning her head while waving at them.
"Why ... why did she get in earlier? Why didn't the officers catch her, something must be wrong!" exclaimed Geoffrey.
"Daddy... what's going on? Cassandra got a VIP invitation, unlike ours," protested Vivian while stomping her foot.
