Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Storm Approaches

Chapter 16: The Storm Approaches

Ben woke up to pain.

Every muscle in his body burned. His ribs ached, his arms felt like lead, and his vision was still hazy from the countless beatings he took the day before.

But he was alive.

Around him, the Saiyan warriors were already awake, eating their meals like nothing had happened. Some glanced at him with mild respect. Others still looked at him like prey.

Taro dropped a chunk of roasted beast in front of him. "Eat. You'll need it."

Ben stared at the hunk of meat. "I'm a vegetarian."

Taro frowned. "A what?"

Ben sighed. "Never mind." He grabbed the food and took a bite. Survival first, morals later.

Matriarch Juno's voice rang out across the camp. "Day two of the Trials begins. If you wish to remain, stand and fight."

Ben groaned, cracking his neck. "Here we go again."

Trial Two: Endurance

This time, there was no one-on-one fighting.

Instead, Ben was forced into a brutal gauntlet—a test of survival. For hours, he was hunted through the canyon, Saiyan warriors attacking him from all sides.

He dodged, countered, and took blows that would have shattered a normal man's bones.

Every second was a lesson in pain.

His strategy changed. Instead of fighting head-on, he used his environment—kicking up dirt to blind opponents, baiting them into attacking cliffsides, and using their own strength against them.

Taro, watching from above, smirked. "He's smarter than I thought."

By sunset, Ben was still standing. Barely.

Frieza's Forces Draw Closer

Far across the planet, the first Saiyan villages burned.

Frieza's shock troops swept through, killing every survivor they found. Scouters beeped, tracking energy signatures.

One soldier, a lizard-like alien, smirked as he read the display. "Commander, we've detected a cluster of Saiyans in the canyon region."

The alien grinned, licking his lips. "Shall we handle it?"

The invasion had begun.

The Night Before War

Back at the Saiyan stronghold, Ben sat by the fire, wrapping his wounds. Tomorrow would be the final trial.

Taro sat beside him. "You're not half bad, outsider."

Ben chuckled. "High praise from a guy who tried to break my ribs yesterday."

Taro grinned. "You fought well." Then his expression darkened. "But it won't matter soon."

Ben frowned. "What do you mean?"

Taro glanced at the sky. "There's a war coming."

Ben followed his gaze, heart pounding. He had seen what happened to the Saiyans in the original timeline. He knew Frieza's army was close.

But this time, he was here.

And he wouldn't let history repeat itself.
