Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Back to the Starting Point
Don Kreig left with the hundred servings of food Zeff had prepared.
The atmosphere in the restaurant turned a bit gloomy. Sanji tried to boost morale, "What's there to be afraid of? If they dare come back, we'll just drive them away."
"What's the use of regretting now? Even the chef has this attitude. As restaurant staff, we have no choice but to unite and fight off these invading pirates!"
Paddy nodded eagerly. "There's nothing to fear from the Kreig Pirates! We are the skilled chefs of the sea restaurant!"
"Ouch…"
"Let's do this, everyone!"
"Wooo! Let's show those guys what our sea restaurant chefs are made of!"
Luffy shouted excitedly, "And me! And me! Hahaha…"
Almost forgot—Luffy was technically an employee here!
Lynn leaned toward Nami. "Nami, stand next to me later. I'll make sure you're safe!"
Usopp quickly grabbed Lynn's arm, "Hey, Lynn, don't forget me! You gotta protect me too!"
Lynn sighed, "Didn't you say you wanted to be a brave sea warrior? Fine... Zoro, you want protection too? Call me brother, and I'll consider it!"
Zoro's eyelid twitched. "You bastard, I don't want your protection. But something's definitely going to happen. Everyone be careful..."
Before he finished, a loud rumbling shook the restaurant violently.
"What's going on?"
"Why is the restaurant shaking so much? A tsunami?"
"Stop asking questions and go see what's happening!"
Outside, Don Kreig's massive ship was suddenly sliced clean in two by a sword!
Everyone panicked—how could such a huge ship be split so neatly in half?
"What happened to Don Kreig's ship? Why's it like this all of a sudden?"
"Look! The cut is so smooth. Someone cut it open?"
"Yeah, right! How could someone split a ship this big?"
"Hey! Now's not the time for jokes! You bastards, help lower the planks—"
"Yeah, a wave that big could flood the restaurant!"
Nami turned to Lynn. "If it were you, could you do something?"
Lynn smiled. "Of course, don't you know my ability?"
Usopp suddenly recalled the high cliffs by his hometown and snapped, "Lynn, what did you do to my hometown, you bastard!"
Lynn rolled his eyes. "Not now. Look—there's someone over there!"
Usopp squinted. "You're joking—ah, it's really happening!"
Zoro stepped forward excitedly, muttering, "It's him, it's him, it's him!"
Luffy asked confused, "Who is it?"
Lynn joked, "Does he owe you a lot of money? You look really happy."
Zoro ignored the teasing and swallowed hard. "I searched the seas for him. He's the world's number one swordsman, Dracule Mihawk—known as Hawkeye!"
"The world's number one swordsman?" Nami asked Lynn, "If you fought him, what would happen?"
Lynn wasn't a rookie like Zoro. Hawkeye wasn't just the best swordsman—his observation, armament mastery, physical strength, speed, and combat experience were unmatched. Lynn wasn't confident in facing him.
"If I fought him to the death, I'd be killed in seconds."
Nami exclaimed, "Really? Aren't you usually so confident? That doesn't sound like you!"
Luffy turned and asked, "Lynn, is the gap really that big between you and him?"
Lynn rolled his eyes. "How many years has he spent out there? How many experiences? How can fledgling pirates like us compare?"
Usopp frowned. "You're not underestimating yourself, are you?"
Lynn warned, "If you want to reach the top, you have to first recognize your own strength and understand the power of the best in the world. Only then can you improve. Damn it, I'm not your teacher. Go away."
Luffy pouted. "Lynn, you stingy guy…"
After chatting for a while, a small boat with a unique shape appeared through the dissipating smoke on the waves. It looked like a coffin, candles lit with green flames flickering strangely.
A man sat cross-legged on the boat. He had a short beard, wore a black hat trimmed with white fur, a burgundy patterned shirt, a black windbreaker, white trousers, and black boots. A cross hung on his chest, and a long knife was strapped to his back.
He sat quietly, head bowed, giving off a heavy sense of gloom.
At just the right moment, a pirate from Don Kreig's crew broke the silence. "You bastard, how did we offend you?"
"Yeah, I followed you all the way from the Grand Line…"
Hawkeye glanced calmly at the man who spoke and said simply, "I'm bored. Just killing time."
What kind of excuse was that?
Bored, so you start hacking up other people's ships? Then chase them all the way back to the starting point of the voyage?
Don Kreig's eye twitched with anger. His dream of dominating the Grand Line shattered by this absurd reason.
Now, everything was back to square one.
Don Kreig couldn't take it. He motioned to a sniper on his ship. The sniper, sharp as ever, took out double guns and fired at Hawkeye.
"Bang bang…" The gunfire echoed.
Hawkeye drew his black knife and, with smooth movements, deflected the bullets midair.
The sniper rubbed his eyes in disbelief. "How is this possible? I aimed perfectly!"
Zoro, now tying a silk scarf around his head, stepped forward. "Those bullets were sliced by his sword!"
The sniper asked, "Who are you?"
Zoro ignored the question and walked toward Hawkeye.
Nami, worried, asked, "You said he was so powerful. Why did you let Zoro challenge him?"
Luffy held up his hat. "That's Zoro's dream. Why stop him?"
Lynn nodded. "Nami, don't worry. If Zoro backs down now, how will he ever become the world's number one swordsman? You should be proud of him."
Nami shook her head. "What does world number one even mean? You guys are so boring—I'm done!"
Usopp swallowed nervously, realizing they were on an incredible ship.
Lynn pulled Nami aside. "You two stay here. Don't run around."
Nami looked confused. "Are you going to challenge Hawkeye too?"
Lynn smiled. "Me? Challenge Hawkeye? Don't be ridiculous. I just want to watch the show."
