Chapter 399: CHAPTER 399: The Calm Before the Storm
This world seemed to have returned to its original track, and everything appeared to be unfolding slowly according to the plot of the original story.
The East Blue.
The North Blue.
The South Blue.
The West Blue…
Newcomers were setting sail one after another, declaring themselves pirates and beginning their journeys toward the Grand Line.
In Mock Town, after the members of the Black Crow Pirates returned to the port, the Black Glory set sail again, cutting through the calm blue waters.
On deck, Mio was holding a Den Den Mushi to his ear, speaking with a soft but commanding tone.
With a gentle smile on his face, he said, "Judge, how is it coming along?"
"Thirty ships."
"Thirty ships? Increase the pace," Mio said in a deep voice.
"Alright, but with so many ships, it's inevitable that we'll be discovered. When that happens—"
"Don't worry." Mio's voice was calm and resolute. "It's going to happen soon anyway. Whether we're discovered or not won't make a difference."
"You've decided on the time?" Judge's voice came through the Den Den Mushi with a note of surprise.
"That's right."
"I'll do my best to finish quickly, but I expect you to uphold your end of our agreement," Judge said after a brief silence, his tone edged with anticipation.
"Don't worry. I won't forget. Your condition isn't exactly unreasonable, is it?" Mio replied with a soft chuckle.
With that, the call ended.
Mio set down the Den Den Mushi, picked up another one, and dialed again.
This time, as soon as the connection was made, a calm, scholarly voice came through.
"Have you decided?"
"Yeah," Mio replied with a smile tugging at his lips. "How are things on your side?"
"Almost ready. You can retrieve it when the time comes. But I must say, I didn't expect these little creations to be so intricate. They've been quite enlightening."
"Hahaha, their heads are filled with fascinating technology," Mio said with a grin.
"When the time comes, I'd like to learn from you as well. For now, I wish you success." Vegapunk's voice was gentle but tinged with an undercurrent of hope. After all, working for the World Government was never his true desire.
The research they demanded wasn't what he truly wanted to pursue.
"It will succeed," Mio said with certainty, his smile widening. "It has to succeed. I've prepared too much for this. If I fail, then no one in this world will ever be able to overthrow them."
Mio's preparations were extensive, his network deep. At this point, only two forces stood as true opponents to the Black Crow Pirates: the World Government and the enigmatic D Clan.
But this time, the Black Crow Pirates had allied with the D Clan.
If they failed, Mio couldn't imagine anyone else succeeding in overthrowing the immense power of the World Government.
Especially when one of the D Clan already sat among the Five Elders.
It was only a question of who would rule this world in the end—Black Crow or the D Clan.
Mio's sharp eyes glimmered as he ended the call.
Finally, he picked up a third Den Den Mushi and dialed.
This time, Mio only spoke a single sentence:
"Get ready."
Then he hung up.
Marijoa
In a lavish hall, an old man sat alone on a plush sofa. Setting down a Den Den Mushi, he exhaled deeply and whispered, "It's finally here. I hope this works."
He waved his hand silently.
A figure appeared beside him, standing still and silent like a shadow.
The old man didn't speak further. Instead, he picked up a pen and paper, quickly scribbled a message, slipped it into an envelope, and handed it to the man.
"Just like before—be careful."
"Yes," the man replied, bowing respectfully. He tucked the envelope away and left quietly.
As the door closed, the old man's gaze fell on the sacred building at the heart of Marijoa—a place known only to those who truly understood the balance of power in the world.
A flicker of fear and ambition flashed in his eyes before vanishing, replaced by cold indifference.
Time flowed on.
Though Mio had gained immortality through the Operation Fruit, he spent his days arranging pieces on the board, placing every pawn where it needed to be. The anti-aging surgery had granted him eternal life, but there would be no time to enjoy it—not yet. Victory had to come first.
Only after the war was won could he finally experience the pleasures of an endless life.
East Blue
The weakest of the four seas.
After crossing Reverse Mountain, the Black Glory entered these calm waters.
Robin, lying on a recliner with a book resting in her lap, lowered it and remarked, "This sea is completely different from the New World."
The gentle breeze and still waters offered a rare sense of tranquility.
Even newcomers could feel how much more peaceful the East Blue was compared to the turbulent New World.
"No wonder it's called the weakest sea," Hei Yan said coolly, arms folded across his chest. "The people here lack any sense of crisis. Without pressure, how can they grow stronger?"
"In the New World, pirates not only have to deal with the treacherous seas but also with constant threats from powerful rivals."
"That's true, but let's not underestimate the East Blue." Mio, lounging in shorts and sunglasses on his recliner, smirked faintly. "This sea produced Gol D. Roger, Garp, and Dragon. One became the Pirate King, one symbolizes the Navy's might, and one leads the Revolutionary Army. Clearly, this sea has its own legacy."
And those three men shared intricate ties.
Garp and Roger were once friends. Dragon was Garp's son. Roger's son was raised by Garp. Now Roger's son and Dragon's son were sworn brothers.
The tangled fates of these individuals reminded Mio of a certain other world filled with destiny and reincarnation.
But Mio didn't dwell on it.
"Let's keep moving. Where's Hawkeye? Contact him and confirm his location before we approach," Mio instructed.
"Understood."
Baifeng nodded and pulled out a Den Den Mushi to make the call.
On the side, Asuka tilted her head and asked, "Sir, is the protagonist of this world really in this sea?"
"Yes." Mio nodded. "This trip is mainly to observe the so-called protagonist."
"Even if he's the protagonist, what can he do?" Lilith sauntered over in a bikini, set down her beer, and curled up in Mio's lap with a chuckle. "Without strength, even a protagonist is nothing."
"True," Mio agreed, taking a sip of his own beer as his smile turned sharp. "But we still need to see him. Our next plan involves using him."
"It's finally beginning," Lilith whispered, clutching Mio's arm. "If we win, we can finally rest, sir."
"Of course."
Mio's eyes narrowed with resolve. "Once we succeed, the entire world will belong to us."
Baratie – The Floating Restaurant
The restaurant buzzed with activity as customers enjoyed their meals.
"You destroyed my room! If you can't pay, you'll be washing dishes for a year!" Zeff barked, dragging a boy wearing a straw hat into the kitchen.
"Wash dishes for a year? That won't work—I'm going to the Grand Line!" the boy protested earnestly.
"I don't care where you're going. If you can't pay, you'll work." Zeff sneered. "Besides, the Grand Line isn't a playground for kids like you. Do you have a death wish?"
He turned and stormed off.
The boy scratched his head helplessly. "What do I do now? Nami, help me out here!"
Meanwhile, he caught sight of a wall lined with wanted posters and his eyes lit up.
"Whoa! So many zeros in those bounties! Amazing!"
"Hey, kid, what are you doing?"
The voice belonged to a blond-haired man in a black suit, a cigarette dangling from his lips.
"Don't mess with those posters. It took me a long time to collect them," Sanji said flatly. "They don't even sell them here in the East Blue."
"Ah, my name's Monkey D. Luffy! Do you know these guys?" Luffy asked, curious as ever.
"Of course," Sanji said, exhaling smoke. "Not many people in this sea don't know them."
"Do you want to join them?" Luffy asked innocently.
"Join? No. I have no such intentions. I only dream of using their strength to take revenge on someone someday." Sanji's eyes darkened briefly before the look vanished.
Just then, shouting erupted from the deck outside.
"What's going on?" Sanji frowned and walked out.
"Sanji! It's bad—pirates are here! The Krieg Pirates!" shouted a chef.
"The Krieg Pirates?"
Sanji's frown deepened.
Elsewhere on the sea
A massive pirate ship sped across the waters.
"Faster! Don't let that devil catch up!" the terrified captain roared.
Behind them, the waters stirred ominously.
On a lone coffin boat, Hawkeye sat cross-legged, holding a Den Den Mushi.
"Finally, something interesting. Baratie, huh? This should liven things up," Hawkeye murmured, his small vessel surging forward with sudden speed.
The plot of the original story was unfolding… but now, the Black Crow had entered the East Blue.
Marineford
In the Fleet Admiral's office, Garp suddenly stood up, his face serious.
"That damned Black Crow went to the East Blue? I'm heading back there."
Sengoku frowned. "Alright, but don't engage unless absolutely necessary. You know how strong he is."
"I know." Garp grabbed his coat and stormed out.
The warship departed at full speed, cutting through the waves toward the East Blue.
Garp's worry was clear. He knew Luffy had gone to sea. And now Black Crow was in the same waters.
The East Blue had become a powder keg.
