Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Encounter with Linlin Again
"Damn it—this is where they're fighting?!"
While Fang Yi was still doing his best to avoid Charlotte Linlin, Buggy had arrived at his destination. From afar, he could see Zephyr battling Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), and his immediate instinct was to run for his life.
There was no way he could take on either of those monsters.
But just as he was about to flee, he suddenly paused.
"Wait… if they're both fighting here, then that means…"
Buggy rubbed his chin, a mischievous grin forming on his face.
He turned and bolted straight toward the port.
Meanwhile, Shanks had reached the Celestial Dragons' palace and quickly located where Rocks had imprisoned them.
After all, Rocks had never expected anyone would break through the chaos and make it this far, so his defenses were minimal.
Taking advantage of a moment's distraction, Shanks launched a sneak attack, snatched the prison keys, and freed all the Celestial Dragons.
Elsewhere, Streusen had rescued Charlotte Linlin and used a special method to help her regain her senses.
"That little brat... next time I see him, I'll kill him!"
Although Linlin was mentally stable now, the wound from Rocks' attack still hurt.
"Enough," Streusen sighed.
"This whole situation is a mess, but it's too late to change it. Time to focus on ourselves. Let's grab some treasure from the Celestial Dragon palace and start forming our pirate crew. Perospero's side should almost be ready too."
"Ma mamama Sounds about right."
Linlin's mood finally improved a bit.
"The nun said… the world she loved most was one without war, a world where all races were equal. I'll create that world—and maybe then, the nun will come back…"
Streusen's expression shifted subtly when she mentioned the nun, but Linlin didn't notice.
BOOM BOOM BOOM—!
Time ticked on.
The God Valley battle had now raged for an entire day and night.
With Wang Zhi, John, and other Rocks officers defeated, the Roger Pirates—aside from their captain—had mostly regrouped.
"Still no sign of those three brats?" Rayleigh frowned.
"Someone said they saw Charlotte Linlin dragging Fang Yi into the central battlefield," Yamon replied, looking anxious.
"But no one knows what happened after that. As for Buggy and Shanks… we've heard nothing at all."
The battlefield had quieted down.
The Marines and the Pirate Alliance had fought each other to near exhaustion. Both sides were too depleted to keep fighting and had called a temporary halt.
The senior officers of the Rocks Pirates were guarding key zones—but strangely, none had gone to assist Rocks himself.
The main escape port was held by Zephyr, but due to Whitebeard and the ever-watchful Golden Lion Shiki, he couldn't move either.
With their enemies subdued, the Roger Pirates were finally regrouping—but just then, they realized:
Their three interns were missing.
"In that case… Peterm, what's Linlin's last known location?" Rayleigh asked the sniper.
"No clue," Peter muttered.
"The whole city is rubble now, and the enemy officers are acting weird. They might be setting traps. The Celestial Dragons are also nowhere to be found—it's a complete mess!"
So, where was Fang Yi now?
Unluckily, after escaping Linlin earlier, he'd gone to the designated rendezvous point with Shanks and the others.
But after waiting a long time without seeing anyone, he decided to go look for Shanks at the Celestial Dragon Palace.
And wouldn't you know it—he ran into Charlotte Linlin and Streusen, who were treasure-hunting at that very moment.
The scene couldn't have been more awkward.
The moment their eyes met, Fang Yi turned and bolted, not caring whether he could escape or not—he just ran.
Charlotte Linlin, holding a chest of treasure, hadn't expected to run into Fang Yi again either.
She paused for a beat, then threw the chest to Streusen and chased after Fang Yi.
And why do we say it again?
Because Streusen had déjà vu—like he'd seen this exact scene before.
"Hey, beautiful lady! Why do you keep chasing me? I gave you the cake! It was your captain who destroyed it! Go yell at him!"
Fang Yi shouted over his shoulder as he sprinted.
"You little brat… you're asking to die!"
The moment Fang Yi brought up the cake, Linlin's anger exploded again.
The chase quickly took them out of the ruined city and into the surrounding forest.
Fang Yi had never felt so unlucky—he'd launched so many attacks, yet none of his skills had triggered today.
Fortunately, Linlin was injured, so she couldn't catch him right away.
And once they hit the forest, Fang Yi felt like he'd finally reached his home turf.
His teacher, Yamon, was a jungle warrior—a specialist in forest warfare.
"You won't get away, brat! Come out now!"
Charlotte Linlin yelled, realizing she'd lost sight of Fang Yi.
Up in a tree, Fang Yi stayed perfectly still, holding his breath.
His ability to escape earlier had come largely thanks to the Agility Inheritance, a system item that resembled chocolate beans but significantly boosted his stats.
Over the past year, he'd obtained three Minor Inheritances:
Two Strength Inheritances
One Agility Inheritance
His strength had improved three times, and speed twice—this was how he could barely keep up with Shanks, despite the latter's monstrous growth.
"Brat, I see you. Don't think hiding will help!"
Linlin was still shouting, but Fang Yi didn't flinch.
Eyes closed, breath slowed, he didn't even dare peek at her.
Powerhouses like her are extremely sensitive to killing intent and attention.
If he so much as looked at her, she'd sense it.
Silently, Fang Yi raised his bow, eyes still closed.
Blind Shot.
Not a skill, but a real-life technique taught by Yamon—locating enemies via sound, not sight, then firing.
In the jungle, where visibility is poor, this technique is essential.
Fang Yi had one chance—and he intended to make it count.
Carefully mapping the terrain and estimating Linlin's position, he began charging up a skill:
Charge (Unupgradable):
Enter a charging state. You cannot move, but your next attack will deal 200% damage.
SWISH—!
The arrow fired like lightning, straight at Linlin.
She sensed it at the last second, turned, and punched it aside, laughing—
"Found you, little—hm?!"
Before she could finish her taunt, she felt a sharp pain in her chest, and her head went fuzzy.
Stunned.
Fang Yi stared in disbelief—two skills had triggered at once:
Precision and Stun.
Seeing her frozen, he wasted no time.
He pulled out a special arrow, fired at her heart, and ran for it.
He knew he couldn't finish her off—not with just that. And the Stun skill? It barely lasted a second or two against elites.
Back when he sparred with Jabba, Stun only worked for a moment—hardly enough to turn the tide.
BOOM!!
The arrow hit Linlin and exploded.
It was a special arrow he and Peter had built, packed with gunpowder in the tip to cause an explosion on impact.
The resulting smoke cloud provided cover, letting Fang Yi vanish from Linlin's sight.
"You damn brat!! I'll never forgive you!!"
Even from far away, Fang Yi could still hear her furious roar, and ran even faster.
"This is unreal… how did I run into her again?!"
Crouched near the coastline, Fang Yi muttered bitterly.
He didn't dare move now, in case he crossed paths with her again.
But there was one thing he noticed:
Stun seemed to work better on Linlin than it did on Jabba.
He wasn't sure if that was because the system currently ranked Linlin weaker than Jabba…
Or maybe it was because of her Soul-Soul Fruit messing with her mental resilience, making her more vulnerable to mental effects.
Either way, he'd take it.
