One Piece: Marine Luffy, Garp regrets it

Chapter 266: Chapter 266: Generous Vegapunk

Luffy couldn't help but secretly admire Dr. Vegapunk. His intellect was unmatched, and his ability to grasp the essence of a concept so quickly was impressive. Vegapunk's genius went beyond simple comprehension—he could apply his insights immediately, a skill that Luffy found both fascinating and intimidating.

Vegapunk, suddenly enlightened by Luffy's comment, turned toward him with a look of genuine appreciation. His expression was a mix of excitement and gratitude, his voice bubbling with enthusiasm as he spoke:

"What a fantastic idea! These flashes of inspiration are precisely what drive research forward. Your name is Luffy, correct? I don't know why you've come here, but your suggestion is remarkable."

Before Luffy could respond, Vegapunk added with a wide grin, "I have some... let's call them toys—projects from my graduate years. They're not very useful but incredibly interesting. If you like, you're welcome to visit the warehouse where I keep them and take whatever catches your eye. Consider it a gift!"

"Seriously?!" Luffy's eyes widened in shock. "You're too generous! Thank you, Dr. Vegapunk—I won't hold back, then!"

Vegapunk chuckled, waving a hand dismissively as though it was no big deal. Without another word, he turned and darted off, his mutterings growing increasingly bizarre as he disappeared into the distance:

"It's coming out... I can't hold it in anymore... It's so bloated!"

Luffy, Sentomaru, and Kizaru watched Vegapunk until he was out of sight. The three exchanged a moment of silence before Kizaru spoke, his calm demeanor returning.

"I'll need to report everything that's happened here to the government," Kizaru said. "In the meantime, Sentomaru can show you around. If you're interested in Vegapunk's toys, he'll take you to them."

"Thank you for your help, Uncle!" Luffy grinned, offering Kizaru a cheerful salute.

"Alright then. I'll leave you to it." With his signature nonchalant wave, Kizaru turned on his heels and strolled away, exuding his usual air of detached coolness.

Now alone with Sentomaru, Luffy seized the opportunity to introduce himself properly. After a brief exchange, he eagerly expressed his desire to see Vegapunk's inventions.

"With Dr. Vegapunk's approval and Admiral Kizaru's endorsement, there's no reason to delay," Sentomaru said, leading the way.

As they walked, Luffy's curiosity got the better of him. He peppered Sentomaru with questions, prying into every detail he could about the admiral.

"Wait, wait—you're saying Uncle Borsalino got reported by a new female Marine for being ugly?!" Luffy burst into laughter. "I always thought his pout and sarcastic tone weren't exactly winning anyone over, but this is gold!"

Sentomaru nodded solemnly, a mischievous glint in his eye. "That's not even the half of it. One time, he wasn't wearing his uniform while visiting another branch. The patrol Marines mistook him for a pirate spy and almost arrested him."

Luffy clutched his sides, laughing so hard he could barely breathe. "Seriously? Without the uniform, I guess even Uncle Borsalino doesn't look like a good guy!"

The two continued their banter, swapping stories that painted Kizaru in an increasingly ridiculous light. By the time they arrived, Luffy felt the trip was already worth it—even if he didn't get his hands on the artificial Dragon Fruit he'd initially sought.

"Here we are," Sentomaru announced, stopping in front of an enormous iron gate. "This is where all the weird, strange, but ultimately useless inventions of Dr. Vegapunk are stored."

The gate itself was massive—at least twenty meters tall—and reinforced with heavy steel. Its imposing presence made Luffy whistle in admiration.

"Wow. Only a genius with government backing could afford to abandon a place like this," Luffy remarked, glancing around. To his surprise, there were only four Marines standing guard. "But wait, isn't this place under-guarded? Aren't you worried someone might steal what's inside?"

Sentomaru smirked. "If anyone wants to take these things, they're welcome to try. Most of them are useless and just take up space. Still, since they're the doctor's creations, we can't just destroy them. Only those with the doctor's permission can enter and pick something out—and today, that includes you."

As Sentomaru approached the gate, the Marines saluted him before stepping aside to reveal a high-tech control panel. He began entering a long, complex password while continuing his explanation.

"You're a special case, though. From what the doctor said, you can take as much as you like. Even if you empty the whole place, it's fine with us. If you need help, I can have some men load everything onto your ship."

Luffy blinked, momentarily speechless. "Is there really such a good deal? Then I won't hold back!"

"Take your time and pick whatever catches your eye," Sentomaru encouraged. "Vegapunk's creations might be worthless to some, but even as collectibles, they're bound to be fascinating."
