When Smoker and Aokiji arrived at the scene, they saw Luffy at the center of the commotion, surrounded by a crowd. The young pirate-turned-private Marine held a plate overflowing with food, opened his mouth wide, and poured it all in.
As soon as Luffy swallowed, his gaunt frame instantly returned to normal, as though he hadn't been on the brink of collapsing just moments earlier.
Ikki, observing from nearby, couldn't help but marvel at the speed at which Luffy ate. The chefs, despite their best efforts, simply couldn't keep up with his voracious appetite.
Out of options, Ikki decided to turn to the silver lottery.
The lottery provided access to a variety of delicious, high-energy foods, including some from the Gourmet World. The dishes were perfect for supporting the activation of gourmet cells.
Meanwhile, the chefs, realizing their cooking speed alone wasn't enough to match Luffy's demands, called for reinforcements. Cooks from other kitchens arrived and joined the effort, spooning food onto Luffy's plates as fast as humanly possible.
The competition among the chefs intensified. They were determined to prove that their skills far surpassed Sanji's, despite Luffy's earlier remark.
With the combined efforts of over twenty chefs and Ikki's constant food summons, the newly activated gourmet cells in Luffy's body were finally satisfied.
This activation process was only difficult the first time. In the future, as long as Luffy ate regularly, there wouldn't be any issues. That said, consuming particularly delicious food or eating in large quantities would occasionally cause the gourmet cells to stir, further enhancing Luffy's strength.
By the end of the feast, more than twenty chefs were sprawled on the floor, utterly exhausted. Several workers had collapsed, some even falling asleep where they stood.
Watching the entire ordeal, Smoker couldn't help but exclaim, "Luffy… Is he even human? How can anyone eat that much?"
"Haha… quite the fascinating captain and vice-captain of a privately owned Marine!"
A lazy, somewhat lewd voice interrupted Smoker.
The group turned to see Admiral Kizaru standing behind them. Dressed in his signature yellow-striped suit and wearing his brown sunglasses, Kizaru regarded the scene with mild amusement.
Kizaru wasn't just intrigued by Luffy's incredible appetite—Ikki's ability to continuously summon strange, high-quality food also piqued his interest.
Now fully sated, Luffy let out a long sigh of relief before turning to Ikki.
"Hey, Ikki, did you give me some kind of weird candy again? Why am I suddenly eating so much more than usual?"
Ikki smiled reassuringly. "Oh, I just added a little something extra to the food—don't worry, it's good stuff! I'll explain everything once we're back on the ship."
Luffy grinned, his trust in Ikki absolute. "Got it!"
He stood, ready to find Zoro and the others. This time, however, it wasn't Aokiji leading the way. Smoker and Kizaru decided to join in instead.
Smoker wanted to visit the training grounds to see how strong Zoro really was, while Kizaru, ever relaxed, simply felt like taking a stroll after the spectacle.
Meanwhile, back at Marine Headquarters…
Sengoku had just finished reviewing some documents when he rose from his desk, intending to head to the cafeteria for a meal.
At that moment, a Marine major general burst into the room, his face pale with alarm.
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, we have a problem… all the food we had stored for the past month has been used up!"
"Huh?!" Sengoku froze, baffled. "Don't tell me we've been robbed?"
The idea seemed absurd. Marine Headquarters stored an enormous amount of food—enough to feed the entire base for a month. Considering the appetites of the generals, including members of the Giant race, not to mention the regular Marines, the stockpile was vast.
For it all to disappear at once was incomprehensible.
"It wasn't stolen!"
The logistics major general swallowed nervously before continuing, "It's because… someone came into Canteen No. 1, and they ate everything!"
"Who could possibly eat that much?" Sengoku asked, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"I'm not sure who they are," the major general admitted, "but I know they were brought in by Admiral Aokiji."
Hearing this, Sengoku froze for a moment as realization dawned. There was no doubt who it was—it had to be Luffy.
Suddenly, Sengoku recalled Ikki's parting words before heading to the cafeteria:
"Fleet Admiral Sengoku, Luffy might eat a lot. You wouldn't mind, right?"
And how had Sengoku responded? "Eat as much as you can, why would I mind?"
Now, as the enormity of the situation sank in, Sengoku regretted his casual reply.
The thought of losing over a month's worth of food—enough to feed the entirety of Marine Headquarters, including their colossal appetites and even the Giants among their ranks—was like a knife to his heart. Not to mention the financial cost...
Meanwhile, Ikki silently counted his blessings. Had this happened aboard the Going Merry, the ship's stores would have been utterly consumed by Luffy's newly awakened Gourmet Cells. But at Marine Headquarters, where food was plentiful, they'd managed to sustain the cells' activation without catastrophic consequences.
After the meal, Smoker and Aokiji led the group to Marine Headquarters' training grounds.
When they arrived, they saw Zoro locked in a fierce battle with a Marine swordsman who had a menacing appearance and a dark expression.
This Marine officer, Ship-Slasher T-Bone, was a character Ikki recognized from the original story.
T-Bone might have looked intimidating, but in reality, he was a gentle and kind-hearted man, deeply caring for his subordinates. His nickname, Ship-Slasher, came from his extraordinary swordsmanship. With a single flying slash, T-Bone could cleave small and medium-sized ships clean in half.
Originally, Zoro had intended to challenge Vice Admiral Momonga. However, after a brief exchange, Zoro found himself quickly defeated, unable to handle Momonga's mastery of Armament Haki.
Momonga, seeing Zoro's potential but recognizing the gap in their abilities, arranged for him to spar with T-Bone, a more suitable opponent whose skill level was slightly higher than Zoro's.
Unlike their original encounter, this time Zoro and T-Bone engaged in a prolonged, back-and-forth duel. Each attack and counterattack demonstrated the skill and determination of both swordsmen, and it seemed as though the battle might not have a clear winner anytime soon.
While Zoro and T-Bone clashed, Ikki's attention was drawn to Conan, who was speaking with a Marine acting as an instructor.
"Coach, I want to get stronger!" Conan declared earnestly.
The instructor looked him over with a skeptical expression. "Kid, you're too young!"
"Then… is there any chance my physique could develop into something strong?" Conan asked, his tone hopeful.
The coach stepped closer, scrutinizing Conan carefully. He even went as far as to prod Conan's arms and torso before shaking his head. "Your body's too soft," he said bluntly. "If you want to become strong, save up and buy a Devil Fruit that suits you."
Ikki, overhearing this, couldn't hold back any longer.
"What kind of coach are you?" he interjected, striding over. "Are you seriously telling me Conan isn't qualified? This is the same kid who can kick a satellite out of orbit with a soccer ball!"
Seeing Ikki approach, Conan sighed. "Ikki, it looks like my body's not—"
Before Conan could finish, Ikki cut him off. "You're Conan! Trust in science!"
Conan blinked, confused. "Science? In this bizarre world? Does that even exist?"
Ikki glanced around and quickly spotted a football that some Marines had been using earlier. Picking it up, he handed it to Conan.
"Conan, give this a kick. Let's see your strength."
The instructor, still unconvinced, chimed in again. "He's too young, and football isn't suited for him. He should stick to light exercise and focus on staying healthy."
Ignoring the instructor, Ikki motioned for Conan to go ahead.
With a determined nod, Conan, with precision and force, he kicked the ball.
The football shot forward like a comet, tearing through the air at incredible speed.
In its path stood a Marine engaged in training. Hearing the whistle of the ball, the Marine turned to face it and raised his hands to catch it.
However, he severely underestimated the force behind Conan's kick. The ball slammed into his hands, knocked them aside, and continued straight into his chest. The impact sent the Marine flying backward, the ball carrying him several meters before he finally hit the ground with a thud.
