One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 104: White’s Request

"Captain White, this was my fault. Because of me, you lost your hand. I owe you a debt."

Looking at White's severed arm, Jon felt deep guilt, but he didn't know what to say to comfort him.

However, White simply smiled, raised his injured arm, and said casually:

"Like I said, losing a hand is better than losing my life. You don't owe me anything… but there is something I'd like to ask for your help with."

Jon immediately responded:

"If you need my help, just say the word. If it's something I can do, I won't refuse."

White fell silent for a moment, then spoke in a low voice:

"I want you to find a way to transfer me to Headquarters—to work in the logistics department."

"Huh?"

Jon's face immediately showed shock.

"You want to transfer to the rear lines?"

White nodded.

"Yeah. Before, I never thought much about it. But after facing death again, I finally understand the value of life. I'm not like you guys. I'm just an ordinary soldier. I have no special talent, no connections—I'm just another frontline grunt."

"I never used to care about my own life. But when I came back this time and saw my family… I suddenly felt guilty. The fear I never had before—I feel it now."

**"If I die, I can't imagine what will happen to my family. Sure, the Navy provides compensation and support for the families of fallen soldiers, but you and I both know—a dead man's value is never the same as a living one.

"So, after thinking it over and discussing it with my family, I've decided—I don't want to be a frontline soldier anymore. I want to transfer to the logistics department at Headquarters. It's much safer there, and my family won't have to worry about me."

"But I'm just a regular captain. No connections, no outstanding achievements. If I apply on my own, it'll be tough to get approved—especially since it's Marine Headquarters."

"Jon, I know you have influence. That's why I'm asking for your help."

Jon listened carefully and fully understood White's feelings.

Fear of death is human nature—especially for someone like White, who has a family depending on him.

Jon didn't look down on him at all.

However, transferring a Marine captain from a branch to Headquarters wasn't something Jon could easily arrange.

First, G-1 Base might not even agree to let him go.

Second, Headquarters might not accept the transfer request.

Every Marine wants to be at Headquarters—competition is intense. Without strong backing, getting transferred was nearly impossible.

Unless… Tsuru intervened.

But Jon had just screwed up—he didn't feel comfortable asking Tsuru for a favor right now.

Wait…!

Suddenly, Jon thought of someone.

Back when he demonstrated his abilities to Sengoku and the others, there was a rear admiral from the logistics department who had tried desperately to recruit him.

That officer's name was Lucien—a rear admiral in charge of Marine Headquarters' logistics division.

Lucien only held the rank of rear admiral, but in the logistics department, he had considerable authority.

The highest rank in logistics was vice admiral, meaning Lucien was one of the most powerful figures below him.

Jon knew Lucien really wanted to recruit him, but Jon had no interest in joining logistics.

However, if he reached out for a favor, Lucien might actually agree to help.

If a high-ranking officer from logistics requested White's transfer, the G-1 Base commander would likely approve it.

Jon looked at White seriously and said:

"Captain White, I can't guarantee this will work, but I promise I'll do my best. I happen to know a rear admiral in the logistics department—I'll see if I can convince him."

Hearing this, White's face lit up with joy.

"That would be incredible! Thank you, Commander Jon! If you ever need anything, just say the word!"

"No need to thank me. This is all I can do for you—I'll give it my best shot."

Jon and White hadn't known each other for long, but they had been through life-or-death battles together.

Plus, White had also helped Pemberton return safely.

Afterward, at Jon's request, White explained in detail how they had managed to escape.

After listening, Jon could only sigh—luck played a huge role in their survival.

The Next Morning

Jon stared at three men with dark circles under their eyes—Borsalino, Pemberton, and Kaji.

"You guys didn't come back all night?"

Pemberton, looking completely exhausted, groaned:

"Last night… too much action… I'm exhausted… I need to sleep first…"

He didn't even finish the conversation—just left to go sleep.

Kaji also said a few words, then turned and left, leaving only Jon and Borsalino.

Borsalino shook his head and said in a disappointed tone:

"Those two are too weak. A little fun, and they're completely drained. They need more training."

Jon stared at him.

If Borsalino didn't also have dark circles under his eyes, maybe Jon would have believed him.

But clearly, Borsalino was just as exhausted.

Jon was also genuinely curious—what did these three do last night to end up like this?

They all had enhanced Marine physiques, yet they looked like they'd been drained of all energy.

"Forget it. I really lost big this time—I need to go figure out how to recover my expenses."

Borsalino sighed and left.

Jon didn't even know what to say anymore.

"This guy is a total clown… and he still became an admiral? The world really is unfair."

If any normal person had Borsalino's talent, they would train every day to become the strongest fighter.

But this guy?

He spent his time gambling, drinking, and slacking off—yet somehow, he still outpaced most Marines in growth.

Frustrating.

But at the same time, it was exactly Borsalino's carefree nature that made them such good friends.

Among all the Marines, Borsalino was the one Jon was closest to.

Jon then turned his thoughts to his own ambitions.

"Sakazuki and Borsalino's positions as future admirals are unshakable.

If I want to become an admiral, I need to surpass Kuzan."

Jon felt that his strength was improving rapidly, but compared to Borsalino and Sakazuki, he was still a step behind.

Right now, if he fought either of them, he wouldn't even have a 10% chance of winning.

At times, he couldn't help but marvel—even though Sakazuki and Borsalino didn't have Conqueror's Haki, they were still absolute prodigies.

Jon didn't stay at G-1 Base for long.

Three days later, he boarded Vice Admiral Tsuru's warship and left the G-1 Base.

Borsalino and the others also withdrew from the New World, returning to Marine Headquarters in the first half of the Grand Line.
