One Piece: Starting in God Valley as a Slave

Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Mother and Daughter Reunited

In an instant, the house and all its furnishings vanished. Robin's cries and her aunt's scolding stopped abruptly, leaving everyone staring in bewilderment at the empty surroundings.

A soft breeze swept through, and Robin's aunt was the first to regain her senses. She rubbed her eyes and then let out a piercing scream.

"My house! Where's my house?!"

A cold voice drifted down from above.

"Didn't you just say you wanted it cleaned? Not satisfied yet?"

Before she could look up, Carl descended from the sky, carrying Olvia, landing right in front of her.

As she caught sight of Carl's massive bat-like wings, Robin's aunt fainted on the spot. Robin, on the other hand, stood frozen, staring at Olvia beside Carl. Olvia was also gazing at her daughter.

The mother and daughter locked eyes until Robin's uncle exclaimed in shock,

"You're back?!"

The sound of his voice confirmed to Robin that the woman before her was indeed her mother, whom she hadn't seen in three years. Olvia's lips trembled as she softly called out,

"Robin…"

With a cry, Robin dashed forward, wrapping her arms tightly around Olvia's legs and sobbing,

"Mama!"

Her desperate cries of "Mama!" pierced Olvia's heart like countless blades, choking her with emotion. She knelt down abruptly, pulling Robin into her embrace, and the two wept bitterly.

Robin's uncle swallowed hard. Oblivious to the fact that Olvia was a wanted criminal, he couldn't recognize that Carl was a Navy Admiral. For a fleeting moment, he even wondered if Carl was Olvia's new lover.

He tentatively called out to her,

"Sister…"

"Don't call me that!"

Olvia snapped, her anger flaring as she glared at her brother.

"How have you treated Robin all these years? She's your niece!"

Robin's uncle hung his head, though someone like him wouldn't feel true remorse—at most, a bit of guilt. After all, he'd taken money from Olvia back then.

Meanwhile, Robin clung to Olvia, sobbing,

"Mama, Auntie said you were wanted. I thought you'd been captured! I was so scared!"

Olvia stiffened, unable to refute her daughter's words. It was true—she had been captured. The best outcome would have been a lifetime in prison, the worst, execution. Until now, she'd accepted her fate. But after seeing Robin again, regret gnawed at her heart. Even when she'd heard of Ohara's imminent Buster Call, she'd only felt despair, not this overwhelming remorse.

For most women, their children are their greatest weakness.

Robin, sensing her mother's silence, quickly realized her aunt might have been telling the truth. Before she could confirm it, Carl interjected.

"Enough. We have more important matters to attend to."

He raised a hand. Olvia panicked and clutched Robin tightly to her chest.

"No! My daughter knows nothing! Please, I beg you, spare her!"

Robin's uncle blinked, finally piecing things together. Carl was with the World Government! Olvia was in trouble. Switching immediately to a sycophantic smile, he rubbed his hands and said to Carl,

"Sir, although Olvia is my sister, I swear I know nothing of her affairs. And about the house—"

Crack!

A silver bolt of lightning pierced his chest, his eyes widening as an overwhelming emptiness consumed him. He looked down at his chest, already seeing the scenery behind him through the gaping hole.

With a thud, he collapsed lifelessly to the ground.

Hearing the noise, Robin tried to turn her head, but Olvia held her tightly, muffling her cries. Robin's aunt, awakened by the sound of the lightning, opened her eyes just in time to see her husband's lifeless body and the gaping hole in his chest.

Before she could scream, a mass of darkness surged from below, swallowing her into the ground. Carl, meanwhile, had already vanished with Olvia and Robin.

...

Inside the Tree of Knowledge

Clover was engrossed in his reading when the library doors were kicked open. Carl strode in alone.

The scholars turned to him in confusion, and one shouted,

"Who are you? Do you know where—"

Crack!

A flash of lightning cut off the voice, and the scholar's headless body slumped to the floor, his head obliterated by the bolt. Compared to Robin's uncle, this was a swift and merciful death—Carl's small nod to the scholars.

The other scholars froze in terror. Some turned deathly pale, trembling, while others flushed red with rage, their chests heaving. But none dared speak a word, the acrid stench of charred flesh lingering from the lifeless body nearby.

Carl glanced at the elderly man with a clover-shaped beard and hair.

"You're Clover, the director here?"

Clover didn't respond, standing like a statue. Carl frowned and appeared before him in a flash, slapping him across the face. Though he used minimal strength, it was enough to jar Clover without sending his head spinning like a top.

Clover was jolted awake but had no time to recover before Carl grabbed him by the collar, hoisting him off the ground.

Carl turned to the other scholars, his gaze icy as it swept over them. Their faces displayed nothing but fear—one scholar even vomited on the spot.

Dangling in the air, Clover kicked his legs and shouted,

"Navy Admiral Black Dragon!? Why are you doing this?"

Carl sneered.

"Why? Don't play dumb. Tell me, are all of Ohara's scholars gathered here?"

Before Clover could answer, Carl shook his head and muttered,

"Forget it. Who knows if you're lying? Not like anyone here is getting away."

He tossed Clover aside like garbage, his cold eyes scanning the trembling scholars.
