Chapter 4: 3- Between Pirates and Marines

3- Between Pirates and Marines

—So, why is a great vice admiral from Headquarters here? Looking for some powerful pirate or something? —Zoro asked as he finished eating calmly, though he was interested in knowing if he could fight someone strong by following Kara.

—Mm? Of course not. I was simply swallowed by a Sea King while I was resting, and when I woke up, I was somewhere around here —Kara said casually as she ate with elegance, yet, even so, the food on her plate was disappearing quickly.

—That's a joke, right? —Zoro asked, confused, thinking it was nonsense—. Wait… really? —he asked again when Kara simply nodded.

—Stop yelling already, it can happen to anyone —Kara said in annoyance as she covered her plate from Zoro's spit.

—That obviously doesn't happen. Normally, if a Sea King swallows you, you just die —Zoro said, irritated, but he let Kara finish her meal.

—Mm? Well, it's time to go and, while we're at it, give a little scare to a rookie —Kara said as she finished eating and moved her head as if she had just sensed something.

Zoro didn't ask and simply stood up to follow her, while Kara left a bag full of gold coins on the table to pay for her food and waved goodbye to Rika and her mother with a smile.

—Vice Admiral Kara, the boat is ready to depart. But are you sure a small boat will be enough? —a soldier asked while pointing at the small boat tied at the dock, which had bags with supplies for the trip.

—Mm. Yeah, it's enough. By the way, if an old man with a dog's head comes looking for me, tell him I never existed, that he's always been crazy imagining things, and that he should go to a retirement home —Kara said calmly as she stood at the dock.

—Y-Yes… Vice Admiral Kara, have a safe journey —the soldier said as he walked away, confused.

Meanwhile, Kara didn't move to board the boat, so Zoro asked:

—What are you waiting for? —he said as he looked at Kara standing on the dock.

—To give an idiot a scare —Kara said as she gazed at the horizon.

After a couple of minutes, Zoro saw a spot that grew larger and realized it was a small rowing boat approaching.

—Yaho! I see an island! —a cheerful shout came from the approaching boat, while inside, a boy was rowing with all his might, and another was looking at the island excitedly.

—Mr. Luffy, this is Shells Town, a Marine base —said the boy who was rowing with all his strength, not complaining that he was doing all the work.

—It looks awesome. I hope they have good food —Luffy said, eagerly waiting to land—. Hmm? —but as he looked at the town, he noticed someone standing on the dock, staring at him.

—That's… KARA?! Damn! Coby, this is where we part ways, goodbye! —Luffy quickly said, grabbing Coby and throwing him toward Kara. Then, he grabbed the oars and started spinning rapidly to get away from Shells Town, not before shouting at Kara—. Coby wants to be a Marine! —after all, he remembered Coby's dream and sped away.

Meanwhile, Kara, standing on the dock, smiled as she watched Luffy's boat quickly retreat in the direction he came from and a chubby pink-haired boy fly toward her. However, he obviously lacked strength and fell into the sea.

—Do you know him? —Zoro asked while watching someone float and a boat sail away.

—My little brother. Thanks to him, our grandpa forced me to become a Marine —Kara said while watching her younger brother escape, though she bore no resentment. She just enjoyed hitting him whenever she saw him, just like Grandpa did—. By the way, you should help him —she said, pointing at Coby, who was floating face down in the water.

—Damn it! —Zoro shouted and quickly jumped into the water to rescue Coby.

Meanwhile, Kara remembered when she visited her hometown.

Every now and then, she would show up at Dadan's house just to see Luffy, Ace, and Sabo running around, who ended up as collateral victims when they tried to defend Luffy.

Of course, as an older sister, Kara stayed for a few days to patiently train them, so now they should be stronger than their counterparts. After all, Kara didn't want Ace and Sabo to die like in the original world.

Well, in Sabo's case, at least not lose his memory.

When she was reborn in this world and realized she was Luffy's older sister, she knew things were going to be quite interesting.

The only annoyance was being Dragon's daughter, the careless father who abandoned the Marines just as Kara joined and then disappeared as if he never had children.

—Well, let's go —Kara said as she got into the small boat calmly.

Zoro, who came out of the water with an unconscious Coby, quickly asked:

—What do we do with him? —he said, pointing at Coby.

—Just take him along. Let's leave him to be a good Marine —Kara said casually, unconcerned.

Zoro complied and placed him in the boat.

Just as the boat was slowly starting to move, a Marine officer came running to the dock.

—Vice Admiral Kara, you have a call from Marineford! —he shouted loudly so Kara could hear him.

—Shit, increase the speed! —Kara said as she snatched the oars from Zoro's hands and started rowing at full speed, just like her brother had done minutes earlier. After all, she knew that if Sengoku had found her, he wanted her to return to Marineford immediately, and Kara wanted to take the opportunity to wander around.

—Vice Admiral! —the soldier shouted again, but he realized the boat was already quite far away, so he spoke into the Den Den Mushi in his hand.

—I'm sorry, sir. Vice Admiral Kara left before I could pass the message —the soldier quickly said, speaking respectfully into the call.

—That damn girl always finds a way to slack off on her duties. Fine, get back to your tasks. If Vice Admiral Garp arrives, tell him which direction that idiot went —Sengoku said furiously from the other side of the line, then hung up without waiting for a reply.

Meanwhile, in the boat, as they got far enough from Shells Town, Kara threw the oars aside, letting the boat move with the small sail.

—Damn, how does Sengoku always manage to find out where I am? He probably sent that damn old man after me again —Kara said, annoyed.

—Did you… escape from the naval base? —Zoro asked, looking at Kara.

—Of course not. It's not like I filled my fishing boat with Sea King bait so one would swallow me and take me somewhere random and then played dumb about my work. That would be way too far-fetched —Kara said, laughing lightly—. Especially since it's already happened seventeen times this year.

—So you did do it… —Zoro said, looking at her as if she were an idiot.

—Hey, if my plan to dig a tunnel from Marineford to another island had worked, I wouldn't have to look for other methods… Too bad they caught me when Marineford almost sank, and I had to fix and fill all the holes —Kara said as if it were nothing.

—I think I'm starting to regret joining the Marines —Zoro said, rubbing his head.

—So, what's the plan? —Zoro asked while watching Kara, who was calmly fishing as the boat moved. By the way, Coby was still unconscious, lying to the side.

—Mm? Let's just take a few detours and then head to the Grand Line. By the way, Hawkeye should be wandering around nearby too —Kara said calmly, planning to visit some of Luffy's future crewmates' islands.

—Hawkeye is here? Where? —Zoro quickly asked, gripping the swords hanging at his waist.

—Relax, we'll go where he's about to show up. But you're still pretty weak… Facing him would only get you sliced in half —Kara said as she glanced at Zoro without stopping her fishing.

—I don't care. It's to fulfill my dream and a promise —Zoro said seriously.

—Whatever you want. It's better if you see that guy's strength for yourself —Kara said as she returned her attention to the fishing rod, which seemed to have caught a fish.
