Chapter 3: Chapter 3: A Strange Companion
I stood frozen for a while, my heart still pounding.
The black wolf had saved me… but why?
It wasn't like wild animals suddenly decided to help strangers. Did it have its own reasons?
I exhaled, trying to steady myself.
No point in standing here. I needed to keep moving.
I gripped my makeshift club tighter and continued deeper into the jungle, keeping my ears sharp for any movement.
After about thirty minutes of walking, I finally heard water.
I pushed past a few thick bushes and saw it—a small, clear stream cutting through the jungle.
Relief washed over me.
I quickly knelt beside the stream and cupped my hands, drinking eagerly. The cool water soothed my dry throat.
I splashed some on my face, letting the exhaustion fade away for a moment.

Now, I needed food.
I glanced around and spotted a few small plants with berry-like fruits.
But… were they safe to eat?
I hesitated. In my old world, I could just Google it. Here, one wrong decision could mean death.
As I debated, I heard a rustling sound behind me.
I turned sharply—
The black wolf.
It was standing just a few meters away, watching me silently.
I tensed, but it didn't seem hostile.
Slowly, it stepped forward. Its nose twitched as it sniffed the air, then—
It walked past me and stopped near the berries.
I watched in surprise as it nudged the berries with its nose… and then ignored them.
I frowned. Was that a warning?
I reached out, grabbed one of the berries, and squeezed it between my fingers.
A strange purple liquid oozed out. It had a strong, bitter smell.
I understood immediately.
Poisonous.
I let out a shaky breath.
"…You just saved me again, huh?" I muttered, looking at the wolf.
It simply stared at me, then sat down.
This was weird.
Wild animals didn't act like this. It was too smart.
I decided to take a gamble.
"You're not going to attack me?" I asked.
The wolf didn't move.
"Are you… following me?"
Silence.
I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck.
I didn't know why, but I had a feeling—this wolf wasn't just some ordinary beast.
Whatever the reason, for now, I wasn't alone anymore.
And in this dangerous world… maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.
