Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Requesting a Hypnotist Investigation?
To be fair…
Walter Wayne was no ordinary man.
He had survived many Forbidden Zones before. He was a battle-hardened veteran, a man who had walked out of death more than once.
His four core attributes had all exceeded 100. Strong physique, sharp senses he was powerful.
Otherwise, what qualifications would he have to serve as a mentor at Godslayer Academy?
That said…
No matter how quiet the surrounding murmurs were, none of them escaped Walter's ears.
And what he heard made his blood boil.
He also knew all too well just how serious this matter was. If he returned to the academy without doing anything, there was no doubt he'd face a firestorm of consequences.
Driven by desperation, Walter suddenly stormed over to Vincent Fox and barked,
"Vincent!! That's your name, right? Answer me did you kill my students?!"
Everyone froze in place.
No one had expected Walter to pull a stunt like this.
Sure, the government strictly forbade private duels or life-and-death battles between students.
But inside a Forbidden Zone? Who could really enforce that?
People died in the Forbidden Zones all the time.
Sometimes missions conflicted. Students clashed. Someone died. It happened.
Everyone knew it and just turned a blind eye.
If you died, it meant you weren't strong enough. Tough luck.
But for an instructor like Walter to come out publicly and accuse another academy's student? That crossed a line.
It was petty. Desperate. Undignified.
A grown man throwing accusations like a street thug?
People were already putting the pieces together.
Walter clearly knew he'd be in deep trouble once he got back. So now he was trying to shift blame.
A textbook example of scapegoating.
Anyone with half a brain could see what he was doing and they looked at him with growing disgust.
"Walter Wayne! That's enough. Don't you dare slander my student!"
Before Vincent could respond, Terry Yan stepped forward, cold as ice.
"If you falsely accuse him again, we'll see you in the Supernatural Tribunal. I will sue you."
As Vincent's mentor, Terry had no choice but to defend him now. Otherwise, he'd lose face.
Besides, Terry had always been fiercely protective of his students.
Strict in training? Sure.
But let someone outside try to smear one of them? Never.
Walter ignored the threat completely.
So what if they went to court?
Worst case, he'd lose and have to apologize.
Compared to the storm he was facing now, that was nothing.
He stared hard at Vincent and said,
"I heard you awakened flame-based powers. You got top evaluation in the last Zone too. You're strong strong enough to kill my students!"
He was determined to pin the blame on Vincent.
Vincent's expression didn't change.
"Sir, you can eat crap all you like, but don't start spewing nonsense."
His voice was calm.
"I don't even remember what your students looked like. You have any proof I killed them? In Zone 3, the real killers were the zombies. So maybe start using your brain before throwing accusations."
Then he added, casually,
"Are you always this dumb, or is today special?"
That drew laughter from all around.
Especially the line about eating crap several students outright burst into giggles.
Walter's face turned purple with rage.
He snapped, "Regardless, you're suspects now! I'll be filing a request to have a hypnotist investigate this!"
With that, Walter turned on his heel and stormed off with his remaining students.
The tension in the air finally began to ease.
The rest of the crowd started dispersing too.
But before leaving, nearly every instructor shot Vincent and Autumn one last lingering look.
Had Terry Yan not stood so firmly in their way, these teachers might've rushed over and tried to poach the two right then and there.
And just like that, the farce came to an end.
On the return bus…
The atmosphere was lively.
Students chatted nonstop.
Most of them were satisfied with how the mission turned out.
Sure, yellow-rated evaluations weren't great.
But for War Saint Academy, where most students were ordinary and lacked innate talent, yellow was already a massive improvement.
In the last Zone, a lot of them had gotten gray ratings.
This time? Not only did they all survive, but many improved.
That alone made them feel victorious.
Only Vincent sat there, frowning slightly.
Walter's last words left him uneasy.
Requesting a hypnotist investigation?
In a world where supernatural powers existed, Vincent didn't think this so-called hypnotist was anything like the quacks on Earth.
He feared this "hypnotist" might be the real deal.
Someone who could force out the truth from his mind.
Someone who might uncover his secrets.
A few hours later…
The bus arrived back at school.
Just as Vincent and Autumn stepped off, Terry stopped them.
"You two. Come with me to the office."
Vincent knew immediately Terry had something to say.
He exchanged a glance with Autumn, and both nodded subtly.
They had already prepared for this.
Before leaving the Zone, Vincent had anticipated that something like this might happen.
So he and Autumn had already agreed on a story.
Deny. Everything.
No matter what.
No matter the pressure.
No matter the suspicion.
There was no reason to create unnecessary trouble.
No point in playing hero and confessing now.
Not when it could ruin everything.
