Chapter 799: 525. Just take a walk
Boom, boom, boom...
With the tolling of the bells from the Church of Machinery's Iron Cathedral not far away, the meeting drew to a close.
"Let's adjourn, although it's a bit abrupt, there's no time to lose. The coming period will be tough on everyone, but I believe that in the end, victory will surely be ours,"
After finalizing the last of the war preparations, Dorothy stood up and announced the meeting's end.
When everyone had completely dispersed, only Dorothy and Denisha remained upon the thrones on either side of the council table.
"Whew, I'm exhausted."
No longer needing to maintain the dignity of the Prime Minister, she flopped down on the table, her face against the surface, grumbling thus.
This past year since becoming the Prime Minister had been truly exhausting for her. She had endless public affairs to deal with every day, and to solve those unexpected problems, she had seriously thought hard, feeling that she had suffered more in this one year than her entire lifetime in reality.
Fortunately, the end of these hard times was almost in sight. Everything was now in place, with only the arrival of the final day of battle to wait for.
Across from her, Denisha looked at her sister, who seemed burned out, with a touch of pity and distress in her eyes.
She knew that Dorothy wasn't really interested in power or status. If possible, she would rather hide away in a secluded place to dwell on her own research, rather than attend meetings every day and deal with all manner of irritating public affairs.
But there was no choice. The path of redemption that Dorothy had forged could only be led by her. No one else could really help.
Although Denisha herself had awakened much of her humanity, as an Incarnation, she was ultimately too influenced by her original self. Her nature was hard to change.
She was an Avenger.
And an Avenger cannot lead the team of Redeemers.
If she interfered too much, it was likely that this world line might eventually veer towards a Divine King ending.
The eventual end for the Dragon Slayer would be by the dragon.
The Divine King could only save Witch World, but could not offer true redemption to the Witches as a race.
Denisha looked up at the large Witch Hat above Dorothy's head, invisible to others, and once again a twinge of guilt flashed through her eyes.
The root of the child's madness lay in the path of the Divine King that she had misguidedly taken.
It was she who had caused too much slaughter in her quest for vengeance, and so this ultimate karma had fallen upon this junior.
So, although it pained her to see Dorothy so weary, Denisha did not know how to comfort her sister.
"Dorothy, my sister, the true savior of the Witches, please hang in there a bit longer. You are my last hope,"
Miss Shepherdess prayed in her heart.
Yet such prayers only intensified Denisha's guilt. After all, this act of selfishly placing hope on someone else, without caring whether they were willing or able to bear it, was too cunning.
And besides...
No one understood better than her the pain of being burdened with others' hopes.
Probably few knew that what the Divine King hated the most was not something else, but the God King Sect that symbolized the Divine King's majesty.
Initially, for the sake of vengeance, she had created the God King Sect to deify herself and unify her followers.
However, when her vengeance was complete, this tool of propaganda, this weapon of faith, turned into shackles binding her.
Her god-making plan was too successful.
So much so that although she had not yet become Omniscient and Omnipotent, everyone already regarded her as such.
She, the "God," had not yet become inflated with pride, but her "God King Sect" had already swelled, believing that bathed in the glory of the Divine King, they could do anything and that everyone should bow before them.
They even became so inflated as to want to act as the agents of the Master's will, such as a few of the Angel Witches fanatically devoted to her who secretly used her blood to create offspring, even declaring themselves the Direct Lineage of the Divine King.
Heaven knows what Denisha felt when she woke up one morning to find that she had several new children.
Initially, she truly wanted to kill, but in the end, she could not bring herself to do it.
After all, those Angel Witches had followed her for many years and had made significant contributions.
Moreover, those children were innocent. Regardless of Denisha's wishes, they did indeed carry her bloodline; they were her relatives.
And she had sworn never to act against her family again.
In the end, facing her increasingly fanatical followers, the Almighty Divine King chose to flee, leaving everything to her Disciple, the Dragon King, and then isolating herself.
Fortunately, the Dragon King was really effective. Unlike her teacher, she wasn't soft-hearted. Anything that could be solved with fists, she did with fists, dealing with any dissenters with force. The first decline of the God King Sect was not due to external enemies but the iron fists of the Dragon King.
Of course, no one knew that the one who laughed the happiest when the God King Sect was suppressed was the Divine King herself.
She was truly annoyed by these fanatic followers. Praying all the time for everything, they had come to see prayers as omnipotent. "You have issues, you can pray to me; I have issues, whom can I pray to?"
And yet she couldn't strike them nor scold them, which was incredibly frustrating.
Thinking about it, Dorothy's mood might be quite similar to her own from before.
