Overclocked City

Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Judgment

"You... you..." Wang Fatty pointed a trembling finger at Hei Hu, speechless with rage. He couldn't believe he'd been betrayed by his closest confidante, and under such circumstances!

Hei Hu, visibly unnerved by the murderous glint in Wang Fatty's eyes, nonetheless maintained a defiant posture. "What? Are you going to kill me to silence me? Let me tell you, with Mr. Chen present, you won't get away with it!"

"Hahaha..."

Chen Mo's laughter echoed through the room, a sound brimming with derision and contempt as he watched the unfolding drama.

"You two are unbelievably foolish, each more desperate for survival than the last!"

The laughter abruptly ceased. Chen Mo's expression hardened, his eyes sharpening to lethal points. "Stop the charade. I'm not interested in your sordid dealings."

Hei Hu and Wang Fatty fell silent, their bravado evaporating like morning mist. They resembled cornered animals, their eyes wide with terror, barely daring to breathe.

Chen Mo's gaze swept over them, finally settling on Wang Fatty. "Wang Fatty, I'll give you one last chance. Tell me, how did you learn about the 'Overclock' ability? Who is pulling your strings?"

Wang Fatty's face paled, his eyes shifting nervously. He stammered, "I... I don't know what you're talking about... 'Overclock' ability? I've never heard of it..."

"It seems you need a little more persuasion."

Chen Mo's voice was a low growl. The mechanical arm on his arm hummed faintly, a subtle threat.

"Don't... don't hurt me! I'll talk, I'll talk!"

Terror overwhelmed Wang Fatty. He spilled everything he knew in a torrent of panicked words.

He had stumbled upon a classified document detailing the 'Overclock' ability. The document offered no explanation of its origins, only that it was potentially linked to an ancient bloodline, granting its possessor unimaginable power.

Driven by an insatiable hunger for this power, Wang Fatty had relentlessly pursued those possessing the 'Overclock' ability, Chen Mo being his primary target.

"You... how did you find me?" Chen Mo's brow furrowed. He'd been meticulous in concealing his abilities, yet Wang Fatty had somehow discovered him.

"It... it was..." Wang Fatty's words were a jumbled mess. "A mysterious figure. He... he said... said your surname is Chen, that you're special, and told me to..."

"Chen?" Chen Mo's thoughts raced. Could the 'Overclock' ability truly be connected to his family's heritage?

Just then, Chen Mo's phone rang, cutting through the tension.

He glanced at the caller ID: Lin Yuhan.

"Hello?"

"Chen Mo, are you alright? I... I heard something, that... that the police..."

Lin Yuhan's voice was strained, laced with anxiety and apprehension, hinting at an urgent situation. A sudden burst of chaotic noise erupted from the phone, followed by a sharp click as the call was abruptly disconnected.

"Beep... beep... beep..."

Chen Mo held the phone, his expression grim, the silence heavy with foreboding.

"Damn it!"

A chilling premonition washed over him. Lin Yuhan's tone suggested a grave emergency, and it was likely linked to him.

"Wang Fatty, it seems you've been keeping a lot from me!"

Chen Mo whirled around, his eyes blazing. "Tell me, what happened to Lin Yuhan?!"

Wang Fatty recoiled at the intensity of Chen Mo's gaze, his hands flailing. "I... I don't know. I... I really don't know what she's talking about..."

"Hmph, still trying to play innocent?"

Chen Mo's voice was cold, his steps measured as he advanced on Wang Fatty. "I'll ask you one last time. Who's behind you? What are they after?!"

Wang Fatty stared at Chen Mo's relentless approach, a primal fear gripping him. He felt like prey cornered by a predator, his body drenched in cold sweat.

He knew there was no escape.
