Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary

Chapter 237 Hunters from Home (2)

Kasandra and Kaiden were practically snarling at the man named Fahad, while he and his thugs pointed guns at Avery and his team.

Naturally, this was an extremely tense situation, and everyone was waiting to see how things would turn out.

"Come on you two, it's time that you returned home. You left so suddenly before we knew how important both of you are. Daxton is willing to allow the two of you a place at his side if you just swear your loyalty. Considering how beautifully you've grown up, he might even be willing to make you one of his wives, Kasandra." Fahad said, seeming to find this entire situation amusing.

No doubt he thought that he was fully in control of the situation. His men did have Avery's team pinned down with there laser pistols after all.

However, after hearing the man's comments, Avery was enraged himself.

Clearly Fahad was no friend of Kasandra's and Kaiden's. The way that he looked and talked Infuriated Avery.

Despite the guns trained on him, Avery stood up from his seat and glared at the man making crass comment about his woman.

"I don't know who you or this Daxton are, but if you don't want to learn the true meaning of the word pain, you'll put away your weapons and get out of here right this instance."

At Avery's words, Fahad merely started laughing. With his gang following suit not but a second after.

Evidently, he did not find Avery particularly threatening right now. There were multiple laser pistols trained on him, and his own weapon was still holstered. Neither Fahad nor any of his followers thought that they were in any danger.

"Those are some big words, considering the circumstances. Now, why don't you sit back down and stop making threats that you can't back up. We'll be taking Kaiden and Kasandra with us, and the next bit of opposition from any of you is going to result in a blast you won't be recovering from." Fahad said, decidedly done wasting time.

His job was to secure Kaiden and Kasandra, and that was what he planned to do. There was only so long that the electromagnetic tram could be delayed before the authorities caught on, so there was no time for them to waste.

Taking a deep breath, Avery concentrated on his mind and body.

People could sometimes enter a state of extreme focus where their bodies moved faster than normal and time seemed to stretch a bit.

Many athletes might call this phenomenon being in the zone.

It was a time when you felt you were at your best and no one could stop you.

Thanks to his incredible augmentations courtesy of Dr. Raiti, Avery could enter this state whenever he wanted on command.

He could feel his thoughts moving faster, and his muscles more reactive than normal.

This was his first time truly testing out the full capabilities of his enhancement.

During his confirmation with Doyle, he had still been recovering, but that was no longer the case.

Avery was in peek physical condition, and ready to show off what the nearly twelve million Krenin boost to his body was capable of.

With unbelievable force, Avery pushed off the floor of the electromagnetic tram. Leaving a dent in the metal where his foot had been just moments before.

Unable to react in time, Fahad only pressed down on the trigger of his weapon after Avery grabbed his arm and yanked it to the side.

The blast went wide hit one of the car's windows and shattered it.

"I wonder, who do you think is in control now?" Avery asked as he applied pressure with his hand to the man's arm.

A moment later, there was a loud snapping sound as he broke Fahd's bone. Forcing the guy to drop his weapon and yelp in pain.

All of Fahad's men turned their weapons towards Avery', but they could not shoot him without hitting their boss, since Avery was holding him up by the neck and had him fully restrained.

Not waiting for any of them to move and get an angle on him, Avery tossed Fahad into the group in front of him and knocked them all down.

This was the signal for the battle to begin.

Grito and Vi'ivando rushed over to a corner of the tram car where they hid behind a shield generator, while Jasmine, Kasandra, and Kaiden joined in on the brawl.

The two Woest siblings were especially aggressive, taking down their foes hard. Without a doubt, this was personal for them.

Jasmine on the other hand expertly used her training from her time in the Alliance Police to incapacitate her targets quickly and efficiently.

Thanks to her own physical augmentations, she was able to overpower people nearly twice her size and render them unconscious or immobile with relative ease.

Of course, lasers started flying fairly quickly.

While Avery, Kasandra, Jasmine, and Kaiden, had elected not to draw their weapons and settle things physically, their attackers realized how much of a disadvantage they were at. Hoping to use their laser pistols to bring things back into their favor.

Except, with how fast their targets could move, it was difficult to line up a shot. Especially in such close quarters. Had they not gotten swept up into things so quickly, they would have realized how poor the situation was for them.

A few glancing blows did streak by, but they were easily blocked by personal shield generators.

At this point, alarms were blaring through the tram car. It was equipped with weapons sensors and had already sent a signal to the authorities.

"Secure them quickly! We need to get out of here!" Fahad screamed as he pulled himself up.

Sadly, it was clear that his gang was losing this fight. Some of them had minor physical enchantments, but nothing compared to what Avery, Kasandra, and Jasmine had recently received. Honestly, they were getting thrown around like stuffed toys.

Seeing that things were not going well, Fahad pulled out his last resort. It was a high-intensity laser grenade. It might kill some of his men, or even both of his targets, but he would just have to hope that at least one between Kaiden and Kasandra would survive.

The second that he tossed the weapon, Avery noticed it in his peripherals and recognized the dangerous device.

With an amazing feat of speed and agility, he jumped towards the grenade and caught it midair.

He knew that there would not be long until it went off, so he rushed over to the window that had been broken by Fahad's first shot.

Just barely Avery was able to throw it away before it went off.

However, he was still right by the window and within the blast radius.

A bright flash of red light consumed everything within a certain area, and Avery did not have time to get out of the way before it reached him.

His personal shield generator held up for a fraction of a second before it was completely overwhelmed.

As a last-ditch effort, Avery covered his face with his hands, hoping to somehow withstand the blast without being vaporized.
