Chapter 101: Chapter 101
Even though the group kept running into small arguments, Kakashi was able to smooth things over, making sure Naruto didn't actually lose it and punch the client.
It was the first time out of the village for all three kids. Sasuke and Sakura weren't as loud as Naruto,
but instead of keeping watch on their surroundings, their eyes were mostly on the new sights.
The wet ground clearly showed footprints from the group. Kakashi, with his usual bored expression, glanced to the side, then looked away again.
They had barely walked a few steps when two figures suddenly jumped out of a puddle. The headbands on their foreheads had slashes through the Kirigakure symbol.
The two of them burst from the water holding a chain made of linked shuriken, aiming straight at the one in the back—Kakashi.
*Clang!*
The sound of the chain rattling echoed as, in an instant, it wrapped tightly around Kakashi from both sides, tying him up in what felt like hundreds of knots.
The noise made Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura quickly turn around in shock.
But they were too slow to react. All they could do was watch as Kakashi was caught by the two chains.
And then, just like that, Kakashi was torn apart into a pile of blood and flesh right in front of them.
"Yikes."
Hatake Satoru, sitting on a branch nearby, couldn't help but cringe a little.
Man, Kakashi really went all in to scare them. Isn't that going to traumatize the three kids?
Hatake Satoru gave a quick glance at the two guys holding the chains.
Even though they were rogue ninja from Kirigakure, their gear probably came from Gato.
Just a couple of nobodies.
The three kids were stunned by the sudden turn of events, taking a step back in shock, their eyes wide as they stared at the two rogue ninja with chains.
"Second one!"
The two attackers moved fast, suddenly appearing behind Naruto, the chain of shuriken rattling right by his ear.
Naruto was so shocked by what just happened that he froze on the spot.
Sasuke jumped into action, pulling out a kunai and a shuriken from his pouch and hurling them with perfect aim at the chain.
*Whoosh—!*
"Bang!"
The shuriken firmly pinned the iron chain to the tree trunk, and Sasuke casually slid his kunai into the circle of the shuriken.
Can't pull it off!?
The two rogue ninjas' attacks were interrupted, and their pupils instantly narrowed.
Sasuke landed on their shoulders, then quickly crouched down, grabbing their arms and kicking them away.
"That's amazing."
Naruto stared blankly at Sasuke's smooth moves.
The iron chain hanging in his hand snapped with a "click," and the two rogue ninjas staggered back two steps before regaining their balance.
They immediately split up, charging directly toward Naruto and Tazuna.
Sakura panicked, instinctively stepping in front of Tazuna to protect him.
Sasuke crouched down for a second, then swiftly stepped in front of Sakura.
Just at that critical moment, Kakashi appeared and neatly grabbed both rogue ninjas by the neck, knocking them unconscious in one move.
Naruto and Sakura's eyes instantly lit up with admiration as they rushed over, shouting, "You're not dead, Kakashi-sensei!"
Sasuke stepped forward in vain, pouting in annoyance.
"Stealing the spotlight."
Kakashi, with his dead fish eyes, casually held one rogue ninja in each hand, as if they were nothing more than sacks of vegetables. His expression showed no respect for them at all.
These two weren't even Chunin-level, even if they were in Kirigakure.
Kirigakure's pursuit teams would immediately eliminate rogue ninjas once they were found.
These two were probably too weak to stay in the Land of Water, so they came to the Land of Waves to work as hired ninjas.
Even with his usual laziness, Kakashi had no problem handling them.
"Sorry, Naruto. I didn't get there in time to save you, and you got hurt."
"But I didn't expect you to just freeze like that."
"Oh, by the way, there's poison on their nails. You should probably release the poisoned blood from your hand soon."
Naruto sluggishly looked at the back of his hand. He was so nervous earlier that he hadn't even noticed he was injured.
There were a few scratches on his hand, and the blood that had oozed out was now dark purple.
"Eh? Ah...!"
Tazuna let out a sigh of relief after seeing the two rogue ninjas taken care of.
"Phew… looks like we're safe now."
"Hey! You could've taken them out by yourself. Why did you let these kids fight?"
Tazuna, annoyed at the almost artificially created sense of danger, complained to Kakashi.
Kakashi tied the unconscious rogue ninjas to a tree and gave Tazuna a tired glance with his dead fish eyes.
"As you can see, if I wanted to, I could have killed them instantly."
"But I need to know whether these guys are after you or one of us."
"Once ninjas show up, this mission shouldn't be a C-rank task anymore. It should be upgraded to B-rank with extra pay."
Tazuna, caught off guard, looked away, not expecting to be seen through so quickly.
Though most of Gato's men were armed groups like gangs, he must have known Tazuna was seeking help from Konohagakure, so they sent ninjas to stop him.
"Someone got hurt, and the task classification is wrong. Alright, let's go back."
Kakashi scratched his cheek and said matter-of-factly.
"No!"
Naruto, still upset from Kakashi's earlier comment about not moving, was even more determined not to delay the mission because of his own issues.
Even though this mission was beyond their abilities.
Hatake Satoru, leaning on his cheek, glanced at the group under the tree. It seemed Naruto's outburst had shifted the focus away from Tazuna's situation.
Looking at Kakashi's attitude, it was clear he didn't really want to go back. The mission was most likely not something they could just stop.
...
Inside the Gato shipping company in the Land of Waves.
"Killed!? Those two rogue ninjas cost me a lot of money!"
Gato, looking like a small dwarf, stared angrily at his subordinates. The men in black suits were too scared to make a sound.
Zabuza leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, coldly watching the group. He couldn't help but smirk to himself.
Two Chunin-level rogue ninjas, too scared to even return to Kirigakure Village—how could they be of any real use?
They were up against Kakashi of the Sharingan, after all. If that wasn't asking for death, what was?
Gato knew that using mafia thugs to deal with ninjas was just a waste of time. He shifted his gaze to Zabuza and Haku, who stood expressionless.
"Hey, you two were ninjas from Kirigakure, right?"
"Go stop those people, the ones with that idiot Tazuna. Don't let them continue building that bridge!"
"I'll raise your pay once you finish the job!"
