Pokemon: A Legendary Adventure

Chapter 14: Bruno's Challenge

Rejoining the siblings, Victor began examining the Poké Balls in the box. One of them was a ball with a blue top, a red central detail, and yellow stripes, a Lure Ball. Another had a golden-yellow top, a black upper section, and a red "V", a Level Ball. There was also a dark gray Poké Ball with blue spheres of varying sizes,a Heavy Ball.

Then there was the Friend Ball, a green ball with red and yellow details. 'This one will be perfect for Marill or the little one in the egg', Victor thought.

Looking at the remaining balls, he spotted a Fast Ball, made from a white Apricorn, featuring a red top, a lightning bolt in the center, and yellow details on the sides. There was also a Love Ball, a pink-topped Poké Ball with white heart-shaped patterns. The last one was a Moon Ball, which had a half-blue, half-black top with a yellow crescent moon.

'That was a great prize. This Moon Ball will be useful if I want to catch a future Nidoking', Victor thought as he looked at all the Poké Balls.

A Few Moments Earlier...

"Are you sure we can trust him?" Lakin asked skeptically while watching Victor and Sentret on the obstacle course.

"You're too suspicious, Lakin. I like him. He gives off a chill vibe, and he's a good trainer. Just look at that Sentret's movements," Tyson replied, glancing at Lakin before continuing with a grin. "Besides, just like us, he's just a kid from Purple City. And seriously, dude, you really need to fix that attitude. You already have few friends, and if you keep this up, you won't make any more. Hahaha!"

"He's right," Azami said with a smile, looking at Lakin.

"Hey, knock it off," Lakin grumbled. "But I'm serious—when we leave on our journey, we won't be able to trust just anyone." Despite his stern words, he let out a rare smile at their teasing.

"You've got a point, but it's not like we can't trust anyone at all," Tyson said after a moment of thought.

"Tyson's right, Lakin. If we don't trust anyone, we'll isolate ourselves, and that wouldn't be good—it would only narrow our path as trainers," Azami added with a surprisingly serious attempt at an expression.

"Besides, that kind of attitude doesn't suit me, hehe," Tyson said with a playful wink.

"Sigh... Whatever, forget it," Lakin muttered, looking at the two before clenching his fists slightly, unnoticed by them.

Suddenly, Tyson's eyes widened in excitement.

"Whoa! That's genius!" he exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.

On the track, Sentret had just used Tidy Up and started sweeping the field.

"The energy, transformed into a physical object, must have triggered the trapdoors," Lakin analyzed in surprise upon seeing a new use of type energy.

"Incredible," Azami murmured, clearly impressed.

"Now it's easy," Tyson commented, watching how effortlessly Sentret maneuvered through the course using the opened trapdoors.

Back to the Present

Now with his prize in hand, Victor rejoined the siblings.

"So, did you guys enjoy the show?" he asked with a cocky grin.

"Not bad," Tyson said, giving him a thumbs-up, while Lakin gave a small nod.

"Yeah, it was great! Especially that last move—what was that?" Azami asked, mimicking a sweeping motion as she joined the conversation, curious about the move that cleared the course.

"Oh, that? That move is called 'Tidy Up'. It's a great move, but only three evolutionary lines can learn it, as far as I know," Victor answered with a smile.

"And what are they? Is any of them a Water-type?" Azami asked hopefully.

"No, they're all just Normal-types," Victor explained calmly.

"That's a shame..." Azami sighed, disappointed.

As the conversation continued, Victor asked, "So... ready to head back to the Pokémon Center? I'm excited to watch today's battle."

"What battle?" Tyson asked, his curiosity piqued.

Azami and Lakin also perked up, interested in this battle Victor was talking about.

"Wait, you guys don't know!?" Victor asked, confused as to how they had missed the news.

"Well, we spent a lot of time training and gathering resources in the forest, so we haven't really been keeping up with the news," Tyson admitted, scratching his head in slight embarrassment.

Victor frowned, thinking, *How did they miss something that's been on everyone's lips?*

"Who is Bruno challenging?" Lakin asked, a bit frustrated that he wasn't in the loop.

"Bruno is battling Elite Four member Isaac. It's going to be an amazing match," Victor said excitedly.

"Wait! Mr. Isaac is battling?! We have to watch this, please!!!" Tyson practically begged. After receiving a confirming nod from Victor, he turned to Azami and Lakin, pleading for them to go watch the battle with him, his excitement palpable.

"Tyson, the battle will be broadcasted at the Pokémon Center, we can watch it there," Victor reassured him.

"Seriously?! Then what are we wasting time here for? Let's go!" Tyson urged.

"Why is he so excited?" Victor asked Azami, curious about Tyson's behavior.

"Him? He's a huge fan of Mr. Isaac. He loves Ground, Rock, and Steel-types, so of course, he adores trainers who specialize in those types," Azami explained with a smile.

With that, they headed to the Pokémon Center. When they arrived, they found a massive crowd gathered in front of the TV—an even larger crowd than the one Victor had seen when he first arrived in Violet City.

"Hey, Sweetie. Over here," a soft voice called out.

Turning toward the counter, Victor saw Nurse Joy waving at him.

Approaching the counter, Victor and the others heard her ask in a playful tone,

"Having trouble watching with that crowd in front of the TV?"

Glancing at the massive group again, they all answered in unison,

"Yes, we are!" (x4)

Smiling, Nurse Joy gestured toward the computer.

"Would you like to watch with me?"

"Of course!" (x4)

With a nod, Nurse Joy led them behind the counter, where they stood behind her, watching the computer screen.

The match hadn't started yet—it was still in the pre-game phase, with just a few minutes left before it began.

"So, who do you guys think will win?" Azami asked, curiosity in her voice.

"Obviously, Mr. Isaac. He's overcome type disadvantages before and won every time," Tyson said, clenching his fists with pride.

"It's hard to say. Bruno is a great trainer, and he has the type advantage. Plus... Isaac is old," Lakin stated bluntly, analyzing the situation.

"Hey, I prefer to say experienced, not old," Tyson retorted, placing a hand on his chest in mock indignation.

"That's not what I meant, idiot," Lakin replied with a sarcastic smirk before continuing. "I meant that he's too old for the Elite Four—"

"Retirement, right?" Victor interrupted, catching on to what Lakin was implying.

Lakin shot him a complex look before continuing, "Yeah, he's too old for this. At his age, I think he'd care more about spending time with family."

His tone became darker and more solemn as he finished speaking.

"You okay, Lakin?" Azami asked with a concerned expression.

"I'm fine, Azami," Lakin replied with a faint smile.

Watching him, Tyson patted Lakin's back reassuringly, his face showing a hint of concern.

Not knowing him well enough to comment, Victor and Nurse Joy remained silent, simply looking at the screen.

"It's starting," Victor said, eyes locked on the computer.

Hearing him, the others shifted their focus to the screen.

On the battlefield, the two trainers stepped into the arena.

On one side was Isaac Harrison, the veteran Elite Four member, with his signature half-closed eyes, white beard, and hair. He was tall, a strong old man for his age, and wore a calm expression.

On the other side was Bruno, a Fighting-type specialist, with spiky hair, a stoic expression, and now shirtless—fully focused.

"The battle is about to begin!" Tyson grinned, completely absorbed in the screen.
