Chapter 843: CH223 (837), The Nostalgia Hit Me Hard Bro/Sis
There was a calm period following that lucky encounter that continued even after our lunch break, and it was only two or so hours after lunch that things began to change. It was probably because we were starting to get close to the Meteor Falls, but the variety of wild Pokemon we saw began to shift. Marill began to appear more often along with some Pokemon that we had not seen on our route before this such as Zangoose and Seviper.
Well, in my view seeing two groups of Marill within an hour compared to seeing one within multiple hours counted as an increase in frequency, and seeing one Zangoose and Seviper was still more than the zero Zangoose and Seviper I saw during the last few days. During the ensuing few hours, we came across some more of the previous three Pokemon, along with some Seedot, Lotad, and their first evolutions.
We even saw three or four Surskit flit across the one small stream we passed, though I paid more attention to the decently sized Marill colony we saw there, and they actually ended up having two good members. Granted, one was one of the leading Azumarill, so out of the run as far as recruitment was concerned, but the other one was a (low) bronze-stage female, so I directly recruited her. Marill's deep green potential was enough for me to leave enough food for the colony of close to 80 to eat nicely for months.
Anyway, once the sky began to darken the Seedot, Lotad, and Lombre were gone, but that was not surprising since they were active during the day. However, while Seedot had stopped appearing, we still saw the occasional Nuzleaf flit across the vegetation, and I even saw a Tengu, I meant Shiftry briefly appear. Shortly after 8 p.m., less than half an hour before I planned to return to Utopia for dinner, we actually saw a Misdreavus in the shadows of a tree. I had Gengar catch her so that I could check her out, but her potential was disappointingly low, so I let her go.
There were no further surprises that evening, pleasant or otherwise, but considering that I moved to Utopia for dinner less than 30 minutes after I let Misdreavus go that was not too shocking. While we ate our dinner, Igneel/Charizard excitedly asked if we would continue to watch Digimon once we were done eating, which led to a lot of sparkling/excited eyes turning to me in anticipation. There was a collective cheer when I confirmed that we would be watching another 9 episodes, which roughly added up to 3 hours.
Once we had cleaned up after our dinner, I brought out a bunch of snacks and drinks before I began projecting Digimon Adventures episode 10 into the sky. We binged the 9 episodes I promised to show, and I had to admit that I was enjoying watching the episodes as much as everyone else even though the stream came from my mind. When the ending of episode 18 finished, I declared that we were done for the night which resulted in some disappointed sighs and groans.
The smart ones directly asked me if we would be watching more episodes tomorrow, but unfortunately for them, they were bound to be disappointed. I told them the decision I had already made last night, namely that the Digimon stream/movie night would be limited to the weekends. We would be watching 9 episodes of Digimon each Kyoday and Grouday night.
If a movie fit chronologically, we would watch those instead, and depending on the length of the movie, the number of episodes that night would be adjusted. It pretty much boiled down to 3 hours of Digimon/movie night per day (Kyoday/Grouday). There was a bit of disappointment at that, but that got swept away pretty quickly since they still got to watch 18 episodes a week.
The next morning came, and with it the start of a new week. Unless something big came up, we would be reaching the Meteor Falls today, so I could not help but be a bit excited during our breakfast. My travel group and I directly left Utopia once we had cleaned up after our breakfast. We continued to follow the route I had drawn at the beginning, and the only times we stopped walking was when we got challenged to a battle by either a decent wild Pokmeon or a trainer, or when we came across some Marill.
The encounter rate of the latter began to increase a few hours into our walk, along with the increase in small streams we came across. I knew that the entrance/area around the Meteor Falls had a decent number of medium-sized (water) streams, along with a few large streams, some of which proceeded/went through the mountain(s). The waterfall (s) and streams inside the Meteor Fall Cave System were a result of those, so the increase in small streams we saw was a good indicator that we were getting closer to our destination.
I knew for sure that we had arrived at our destination or at least at the periphery of our destination when we came across a little flock of Swablu a few minutes before our usual lunch break time. Considering where we were, I knew that the odds were high that this small flock was not alone, or rather not without any supervision by a much more imposing Pokemon, so I raised my head and searched through the blue sky to see if I could spot an Altaria among the clouds.
It took me a few seconds to spot it, but I did indeed find an Altaria circling the air high above the Swablu, ensuring their safety from a distance. I was pretty sure that the Swablu were not aware of their secret guard, but I was not sure if things would remain that way since I was planning to check them out which could prompt the Altaria to act. Just to see if I could preempt that I tried to project some goodwill aura into the sky in Altaria's direction, but I was honestly not sure if that worked since Altaria was too high up, and my aura did not extend that far.
Still, after I had projected my aura into the sky, I approached the Sawblu, though when I saw them getting restless and ready to bolt, I stopped for a moment and released Saphira/Altaria, whose appearance, had them entranced/distracted. I used that moment to utilize my second thought stream to release another dome/stream of goodwill aura. I had considered the possibility that Saphira's appearance might prompt the guard Altaria to act even if my approach didn't, but it stayed up there, though I could feel it watching us very closely.
Either way, the combination of my aura as well as Saphira's appearance allowed me to close in on the Swablu and pull out some nice little treats for them, which led to them allowing me to pet them. I took a video of myself being surrounded by a small flock of Swablu as I fed and pat/stroked them for the group chat. I naturally also used the chance to check their status sheets to see if Saphira could get any juniors. It was rather unfortunate that none of the Swablu had light green or better potential, but I did find one that had deep yellow potential.
I just was not sure if I wanted to recruit him since I did not really need a Swablu so there was no need for me to compromise on his potential. It was a matter of want rather than needs, and what I really wanted was some good or even great Swablu, which frankly did not apply to this male or any of the other Swablu in the small flock, so after finishing my video, I left the Swablu some more treats before moving on.
I felt the Altaria's gaze follow us, so once we had stepped out of the Swablu's sight, I left a little treat mound for the Altaria as well in return for it not swooping down and interrupting me/us. Altaria did not react while we were in range, and I had no idea if it went down to eat those treats after we had left, but either way, I was confident that those snacks would not go to waste since other wild Pokemon would take care of them if Altaria didn't.
Anyway, once we had reached an area where I felt Altaria's gaze vanish, I stepped beside one of the trees around us and moved us to Utopia for lunch. I left a little opening to the outside so that I still had a signal because I had something I wanted to do. While we ate, I fiddled with my phone on the side before putting it away. That did naturally not escape the attention of my Pokemon and one of them asked me what I did, so I told them that I first edited and then uploaded the video I took with the Swablu to the group chat.
The mention of the Swablu caused many heads to turn to Saphira before turning back to me, and knowing what they wanted to know, I freely told them that the Swablu were not good enough to join under Saphira. That had a lot of them nod in understanding, and with their brief bout of curiosity satisfied the topic changed to something else, namely Digimon.
They began to enthusiastically discuss Agumon and co, along with which one of the Digimon that appeared so far was the coolest/best. I had to smile since they had not seen anything yet. Only 3 Ultimate Digimon had appeared so far, and none of them were that great. Still, the appearance of another/third evolution had caused some excitement when it appeared yesterday, and the Greymon faction was arguing that SkullGreymon did not count and that Greymon's evolution was bound to be the best one.
The Angemon and Garurumon factions disagreed, but since Patamon was still an egg and Gabumon had yet to reach the Ultimate level they were at a disadvantage. Meanwhile, I watched their argument/discussion in amusement and a bit of nostalgia. They were not aware that the discussion on the best Digimon, at least the best Mega Digimon, and later on best Ultra Digimon, was among the most argued topics among Digimon enthusiasts on Earth.
I personally was never able to settle on a single one since I loved so many Megas, but even disregarding the simps who went for Rosemon, Lilithmon, and the other "hot" female Digimon just because they were hot, the factions were numerous, so seeing it play out here on a small scale even if it was restricted by their for now limited knowledge, was rather nice. It was also rather funny to see a group of Pokemon argue about what/who the best Digimon was.
Anyway, I had to step in when things got a bit heated after Igneel called Angemon a dusted feather, and after admonishing him for that low blow, I put an end to their argument by pointing out that they might change their minds throughout the series so going all in right now might not be the best idea. The topic then switched to speculation about what might happen next, and while they did that, I took a look at my phone to see if there were any reactions to the video I took.
I saw that there were quite a few messages/replies, and after going through them I saw quite a few envious ones, mostly from the girls. Jessie even asked me if she could upload the video to her PoryTom account, and even though I was not sure why she would want to upload a video of someone else there, I sent her a sure. Shortly after I sent that, many more requests to post that video on their story/page came, so I gave everyone blanket permission to repost the video if they wanted to.
Following that I wrote them that I had to go, which was true. Everyone was done eating, so we began to clean up, and once that was done, I left Utopia with the travel group.
