Chapter 331: 331. The Mind Badge
There was no Pokémon Center on Monsu Island, that much was pretty clear.
So after saying their goodbyes to each other, Ash and his party simply rode on top of his Gyarados and Blastoise and rushed directly to the Mossdeep City harbor.
"Really, Big Bro started giggling again!" Looking at Ash, whi was sitting alone on top of his Alpha Blastoise, holding the Ultra Ball and giggling every time he looked at it, Max couldn't help but sigh again.
Brock, too, smiled besides Max and said, "Since he did go ahead and use an Ultra Ball, and from all of the past experience I have with him, it seems that Ash has caught another Legendary Pokémon." Brock said like it was an everyday occurrence
"A Legendary Pokémon?" May remembered that Ash had really left with Groudon before, and when he came back, he kept looking at the Ultra Ball in his hand, "Wait! Did Ash actually catch Groudon?"
Regarding this speculation, Brock shook his head and thought it was impossible, "Based on Team Magma's actions, that Groudon should have been sleeping since the ancient times. It is a real ancient beast that truly was responsible expanded the land and should be able to be caught."
"Then what else could that be?" May looked down at Ash from her point at Gyarados' head and couldn't help but become more curious. He would definitely tell her later as she was his lover. But the Ultra Ball was now showing a flashing red light, showing a condition that indicated that couldn't be opened now. So she decided to ask him later about this.
Arriving at the Pokémon Center in Mossdeep City, it turned out Professor Oak actually went out to a Pokémon Research Institute Meeting. So Ash found Tracey and exchanged some of his Pokémon's.
He didn't know what Professor Oak's expression would be like when he saw what Pokémon was inside of his new Ultra Ball.
But now, what matters is his next Gym Challenge!
The Mossdeeep City Gym specializes in using Psychic-type Pokémon's, and the rules here also also quite special if compared to others.
The Gym Leaders are twins, a brother and a sister named Tate and Liza. They only look to be around Max's age, maybe a few years older than him, so their Trainer's level should not be that high either.
The Pokémon they use are Lunatone and Solrock, both of which are believed to be from the outer reaches of the solar system.
So Ash decided to take out two Pokémon's he hadn't use in a Gym Battle in a while and have a doubles battle with the twin siblings.
"Listen carefully, Challenger Ash!" The referee lady warned Ash, "In the Mossdeeep City Gym, not only are the battle grounds, but also something we call "planets" floating in the air, they can be regarded as part of the battlefield!"
The most famous thing in Mossdeep City is the Mossdeep Space Center here. Tate and Liza are the children of the person in charge of the Mossdeep Soace Center. Therefore, it is not surprising that Mossdeep City Gym has such rules, but this instead just makes Ash even more excited for the upcoming battle.
"Starting now, the challenge between the Mossdeeep City Gym Leader, Tate and Liza, and the challenger Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town is about to begin for the Mind Badge!"
"Stand by for battle, Combusken!"
Ash threw out his Poké Ball first, and it was his proud Combusken!
Combusken: 200/210
The Pokémon used by Tate and Liza are the Lunatone and Solrock he had known they would be using. These two Psychic-type have an inherent advantage over the Fighting-type Combusken, but this is also very good training for his Combusken!
After such a long period of training in the backyard of Professor Oak Laboratory with his Hitmonlee and the others, Combusken's had developed the fighting skill that Ash had envisioned for him and was also already quite goog at it, and now it's time to review them.
"It's time to shine, Breloom!"
Facing the Psychic-type Gym, Ash had actually sent out his two Fighting-type Pokémon's to challenge it, but in addition to the Fighting-type, they also have the primary type of Fire and Grass.
Moreover, the level of Ash's Breloom was also very high, and its power now was even more higher. Ge will be mainly responsible for helping Combusken from the sideline, ensuring Ash's swift victory in this Gym Battle!
Breloom: 210/255
Fight-types against Psychic-types!
This was exactly in line with Ash's specialty, the reverse approach.
"So even those small "planets" floating above the ground is part of the battlefields." May murmured to herself, looking at the spheres in the air. "It seems that how to make full use of these spheres will be the key to victory, for most people that is. At the same time, they also have to take into account the usual two-dimensional battles and three-dimensional attacks. Hmm, thats all."
May said, which completely shocked Brock, Max and even Ash at how smart and logical she sounded.
In fact, Ash has experience in such a battle, that is, his battle underwater at the Coastline Gym at the end nd of his Johto Journey.
"Apart from these, in my opinion, how to break the opponent's joint attack is the biggest key to victory in this game. Though that should be considerably easy for Ash to achieve." Brock's thinking was much clearer than what May said, as the tacit understanding between the two opponents, twin siblings, must be pretty high.
"Please, Lunatone/Solrock!" The twin brother and sister on the opposite side also threw their own Poké Ball and took the lead in attacking.
"Solrock, use Tackle!" As the younger brother, Tate showed a little lack of patience. Before he could clearly see or understood the situation on Ash's side, Solrock rushed over immediately after hearing his Trainers commands.
"Double Kick!"
Ash gave a pretty simple order. Breloom didn't move an inch, but Combusken stepped forward to meet the incoming attack.
"No, Solrock, come back quickly!" Seeing that her brothers Solrock was about to be kicked away by Combusken, Liza quickly provided support, "Lunatone, use your Ice Beam quickly!"
The speed of the Ice Beam was actually quite fast, and it immediately blocked Combusken's path, and Solrock was able to stop jsut in time to be not hit.
"Want to run?" However, Ash grinned, he loved beating up children, and Combusken also showed a disdainful look, "Flame Charge!"
Combusken turned into a hot fireball and chased after Solrock again.
But Solrock was obviously more adapted to this battlefield. It kept retreating, and then suddenly sank when Ash's Combusken was about to hit it.
Combusken saw a small planet suddenly appear in front of him, and he smashed it with a fierce force.
Seeing this, Ash nodded at his new plan, "That's it!"
"Don't come down, stay up there!" Ash's order was given instantly. Combusken shook his head and quickly climbed onto the small planet and stood firmly on it, looking down at his opponents.
"Solrock, use Solar Beam!" Tate launched the attack while taking advantage of the neutral position, and his Solrocks Solar Beam was launched very quickly, hitting towards where Combusken was standing at.
"Flamethrower!" Combusken used his more skilled Flamethrower to block the Solar Beams power, and it was in that stalemate for a few seconds.
Ash smiled slightly, "Don't forget that I also have a second Pokémon here!"
"Seed Bomb!"
Breloom smiled coldly and finally took action!
Grass-type skills were very effective against these two part Rock-type Pokémon's. The Seed Bomb hit Solrock hard, and it was immediately enveloped in green smoke.
It's Solar Beams power was also interrupted because of this, and Combusken's Flamethrower immediately swallowed Solrock whole.
"Nooo, Solrock!" Tate was already panicking, how could Ash beat a child like him without showing any mercy?
"Lunatone, use Light Screen!"
Liza once again provided her support, but she soon realized that their battle plan had been by Ash from the very beginning. Their Trainer experience was still simply too low for someone like him. Even if they had the tacit understanding of twins and helping each others moves, such tricks were of no use in the face of absolute power.
The skill Light Screen creates a barrier that better lets the user resist more Special attacks, but for Ash, it is the best time for him to get another attack in before the end.
"It's up to you!" Ash clenched his fist and said, "Mach Punch!"
Breloom's figure suddenly disappeared in a green flash and appeared in front of the Light Screen set up by Lunatone. The Light Screen set by it was pretty useless against the incoming Physical Attack.
The punch was very fast, even by Mach Punch standards, Breloom's claws could stretch and contract freely, and this punch was like a spring being pressed and the fist coming out with everything.
Lunatone was immediately knocked out after that hit, not to mention that it also hit one of the planets.
"Lunatone! " Liza exclaimed.
Tate also wanted to rush to support his sister, but found that he could no longer do it. It turned out that just now, his Solrock was caught by Combusken's last punch and was now immobilized.
"The final blow, Flamethrower!"
Two attacks easily defeated Lunatone and Solrock. This was the easiest Gym Challenge Ash had encountered in a while. Though it wasn't a great really their fault considering they were still kids and inexperienced as Gym Leaders.
Right then, Combusken was wrapped in a bright while light!
He was finally about to evolve!
Ash's ninth fully evolved Royal Starter Pokémon!
"Wow, Big Bros Combusken is about to evolve!" Seeing this scene in front of him, Ma quickly pulled May.
Ash's Combusken had undergone very hard training every day, and its level has been improving very quickly. Now it was much much more stronger than May's Combusken, maybe even around the 10 times limit.
The evolved form of Combusken was naturally the very cool Blaziken.
Ash has never been able to forget the Blaziken that Harrison had at the Silver Conference. Now he finally trained his own Blaziken to surpass that one!
This Blaziken was very tall and imposing looking, with a height of 2.8 meters, and its pair of strong legs even more slender and full of explosive power!
Another one to turn Alpha after all of that training and food.
Blaziken: 250/255
Breloom: 220/255
After the battle, Liza gave Ash him a Mind Badge and asked him for a picture like she were his fangirl, which she actually was.
This was now Ash's seventh official Gym Badge. With only the last one left to get, he will be qualified for the Hoenn Region Ever Grande Conference!
That was the second true league championship he will go after.
But in comparison, Ash was still even more happy that his Blaziken could complete the evolution. In this way, all nine of his Royal Starter Pokémons have completed their final evolution!
Although the three of them from the Hoenn Region are still far from being as strong as the ones from Johto, not to mention his disaster level Kanto ones, they each have great potential and are constantly getting stronger, much more than any of their kind.

Just when the group separated, Ciel called Ash into her inner place.
