Pokemon: Bounty Hunter

Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Evolve, Pidgeot!

Before long, the other two Butterfree returned to the nest.

With his sharp eyesight, Silas spotted them approaching from a distance. Keeping his voice low, he gave Pidgeotto a few instructions before quietly retreating.

In the sky, Pidgeotto beat its wings continuously, and the wind around it grew stronger and stronger.

At first, only two small whirlwinds formed between its wings. But as Pidgeotto continued gathering power, the whirlwinds expanded, growing into two fierce tornadoes.

That wasn't the end of it. As Pidgeotto folded its wings slightly and exerted more force, the two tornadoes began merging into one.

Then, with a powerful flap of its wings, Pidgeotto unleashed the combined force—a raging whirlwind that howled toward the Butterfree.

Although this scene took time to describe in words, in reality, the entire process lasted just over three seconds.

The two Butterfree barely had time to react before the powerful winds swept them off their feet, trapping them inside the raging twister.

The howling winds stirred up dust and debris, creating a chaotic storm.

Moments later, as the dust settled, Silas could finally see the results.

The peak Standard Level Butterfree lay unconscious on the ground, completely defeated. Meanwhile, the Advance-level Butterfree was still breathing heavily, a faint purple glow lingering around its body.

Silas's eyes flashed with understanding—it was the energy wave of Confusion.

This Butterfree really did know Confusion.

There was no time to celebrate this discovery. Silas quickly issued his next command.

"Quick Attack! Get in close, but watch out for its powders!"

Pidgeotto shot forward, its body glowing slightly as it accelerated toward Butterfree.

But Butterfree wasn't going to just sit there and take the hit.

Still confused about why a human and his Pidgeotto had suddenly ambushed its colony, Butterfree instinctively shook its wings, releasing a cloud of purple powder—Poison Powder—while trying to retreat.

Pidgeotto, however, curved its flight path into an arc, using the airflow to blow the toxic powder away while dodging the attack. It then slammed straight into Butterfree's body.

"Frrriiieee!" Butterfree let out a sharp cry but refused to give up.

Its two antennae glowed with a bright purple light, sending a wave of psychic energy directly at Pidgeotto—Confusion.

Pidgeotto immediately felt its body tighten, struggling to move.

"Spin your body to break free! Then use Wing Attack!" Silas commanded, calm and composed.

Butterfree's Confusion was nothing more than a desperate struggle. Its grip was weak and could only hold Pidgeotto for a short moment.

Pidgeotto exerted force, twisting its body rapidly. In an instant, Butterfree lost control over its telekinetic hold.

Freed from Confusion, Pidgeotto's wings glowed white as it swung them fiercely at Butterfree.

"Bang!"

Butterfree was sent crashing to the ground, completely knocked out.

Silas rushed forward and tossed a Poké Ball at it.

With no resistance, the Butterfree was easily captured.

Only now did Silas breathe a sigh of relief.

This Butterfree was worth a solid 2,000,000 Pokédollars.

He casually threw another Poké Ball at the unconscious peak Standard Level Butterfree, capturing it as well.

With that, the mission was essentially complete. He could just capture a random ordinary Butterfree later as a substitute when reporting the task—it didn't necessarily have to be the one that knew Confusion.

"Go finish your bonus meal," Silas said, grinning at Pidgeotto, who was only slightly tired from the battle.

Although he had expected Pidgeotto to improve, its performance today had still surprised him.

Mastering Wing Attack had made Pidgeotto's combat style much more efficient, solving the problem of lacking close-range attack options.

Before learning Wing Attack, even if Silas had executed a similar battle plan, it would have taken much longer to wear Butterfree down with just Quick Attack. Now, he could finish fights much more decisively.

Now, however, the battle had been clean and efficient.

Silas watched as Pidgeotto flew toward a group of Caterpie, beginning its meal. He couldn't help but smile like a proud father.

Before long, Pidgeotto had finished its meal. Of course, most of the Caterpie had managed to escape, but Silas didn't bother chasing after them.

With four Butterfree captured, the remaining Caterpie—being either,ordinary-level, or even juvenile—wouldn't be able to survive in this area. They would either be hunted by other Pokémon or migrate to a new colony.

The mission only required clearing out this section of the forest. Having done this plenty of times before, Silas knew exactly what to do.

He wandered through Viridian Forest with Pidgeotto and quickly found a lone, Standard-level Butterfree. The battle was effortless, and Silas captured it with ease, preparing to return and turn in the task.

Just as he was about to recall Pidgeotto and start heading back, a sudden white glow enveloped Pidgeotto's body.

Silas' eyes widened.

Pidgeotto was evolving!

Though he had imagined many possible scenarios for its evolution, he never expected it to happen so suddenly.

Right as he was about to leave, he had been given a pleasant surprise.

He watched nervously as Pidgeotto's form became engulfed in a blinding white light.

In just a few moments, the light faded, revealing an elegant and majestic Pidgeot standing before him.

Pidgeot still resembled Pidgeotto, but it had grown significantly larger, with a wider wingspan and shorter, more powerful talons—giving it the imposing presence of an eagle.

Its brown feathers contrasted beautifully with its cream-colored body. The red and yellow crest on its head flowed gracefully in the wind, adding to its regal aura.

Its magnificent wings were not only intimidating but also capable of whipping up fierce storms.

And its piercing gaze radiated the dignity of a ruler.

Overcome with excitement, Silas rushed forward and hugged Pidgeot tightly.

"Well done, Pidgeot!"

"Piiidgeooo!" Pidgeot cried out, responding to its trainer's joy.

Silas commanded Pidgeot to stand guard by his side while he pulled up its status panel.
