Chapter 728: Chapter 727: Capture or Possession?
Slowking's psychic power had been enough to open a small hole in the space created by the Unown. Now, with the help of Honchkrow, Weavile, and Drapion's Dark-type moves, the hole began expanding more rapidly.
After an intense effort, the hole finally became large enough for Cain to see what was on the other side. There, three Unown floated, each with a distinctive shape representing the letters "A," "D," and "Z."
"So it was just three of them. No wonder Slowking managed to damage their secret space," Cain murmured as he watched the Unown tirelessly working to repair the hole. In his mind, multiple theories began to form.
Cain activated the integrated system to analyze the Unown and gather any available data on them:
Pokémon: Unown (Type 'A')
Gender: Genderless
Level: 30
Type: Psychic
Ability: LevitateHeld Item: None
Egg Moves: None
Basic Moves: Hidden Power
Learned Moves: None
TM Moves: None
Due to the limited information available on Unown, the system couldn't determine specific data such as their quality or detailed stats. However, Cain knew well that these Pokémon possessed unique and mysterious abilities.
Unown were not only capable of creating these secret spaces; under certain circumstances, they could manifest even more extraordinary things.
Cain recalled a well-known story: a group of Unown had once used their power to influence the mind of an orphaned girl, creating an almost perfect representation of the legendary Entei, who acted as her protector.
This proved that Unown could materialize Pokémon with power close to that of Legendary Pokémon. However, the three Unown before him were not enough to achieve something so impressive.
In fact, they hadn't even managed to trap him completely. Perhaps they were simply playing, reacting to his desire to find a place to rest by creating this endless tunnel.
"If you've decided to play with me, then I won't hold back," Cain said, a determined gleam in his eyes. A bold thought crossed his mind: What would happen if I captured an Unown?
The idea was tempting. Having an Unown meant gaining access to its unique powers, even for simple uses like creating temporary shelters. If he managed to gather several Unown, the possibilities would be almost limitless.
"Honchkrow, Drapion, keep attacking. Slowking, use your psychic powers to capture that Unown in the shape of 'A'," Cain ordered.
With precision, Slowking enveloped the target Unown with its psychic power. The Pokémon resisted, but it wasn't enough to overcome the strength of a near-elite-level Slowking.
If there had been more Unown, the story might have been different, but with only three, they didn't stand much of a chance.
The captured Unown showed signs of panic. Its central eye reflected a mix of surprise and fear, which gave Cain a glimmer of hope.
"If they have emotions, it'll be easier to tame them," Cain murmured as he pulled a Luxury Ball from his belt and threw it at the Pokémon.
The red beam absorbed the Unown, and the Pokéball fell to the ground. To his surprise, there was barely any resistance—after a slight movement, the sphere stopped with a click, confirming the capture.
"That easy?" Cain asked, incredulous, as he picked up the Pokéball.
However, just as he thought he had captured it, something strange happened. Through the Pokéball's glass, he could see the Unown's eye staring directly at him. Before he could react, the Pokémon emerged as a black flash and shot toward him, merging with his wrist.
On Cain's skin, the symbol of the letter "A" appeared as a dark mark. He tried to touch it but felt nothing strange. It was as if it had always been there.
"Does this count as a capture... or as possession?" Cain murmured, confused.
Before he could process what had happened, the other two Unown, "D" and "Z," also transformed into flashes and flew toward him. Both merged with his arm, leaving similar marks. Now, he had three letters engraved on his wrist.
With this strange event, the endless tunnel began to collapse. The illusion shattered, and Cain found himself standing in front of the entrance to the original tunnel, which had now completely disappeared.
"So that's why there were no traces of other Pokémon here," Cain thought, observing the tranquil landscape around him.
However, in the dimensional space where the Unown had come from, something else was happening. A new Unown, shaped like an exclamation mark, emerged from nowhere. It had a drowsy air but seemed to be searching for something.
Shortly after, other Unown began to appear, circling around this Unown—except for the three now bound to Cain and a special one shaped like a question mark.
The remaining Unown emitted a strange glow, as if preparing for something important, while Cain, unaware of it all, stared at the marks on his wrist, reflecting on his new and unsettling connection with these mysterious Pokémon.
