Pokémon: Chronicles of Freedom

Chapter 846: The Forest Guardian, Trevenant

After suppressing his surprise, Cain continued reading.

Ancient humans sometimes truly had interesting ideas.

Creating a version of Groudon like Golurk meant that, if achieved, even if it didn't possess the same power as Groudon, it wouldn't be something an ordinary Pokémon could face.

But the important thing was...

How did these ancient humans obtain those things from Groudon?

If they were able to get close to Groudon and collect those materials, wouldn't that imply they could create endless Groudon-type Golurk?

Thinking about this, Cain had to admit that, if they succeeded, this ancient civilization could have completely dominated the Pokémon world.

However, it was still unclear who the people behind the creation of these ruins were.

"Did they really do it?" As he read further into the text, Cain couldn't help but react again.

Yes, they did!

And the most surprising part was that this Groudon-style Golurk was supposedly inside these ruins.

The text on the stone described those who participated in its creation, as well as some of the methods used.

However, when trying to read more, the lower parts of the inscription were damaged, and only fragments of words remained. Among them, terms like destruction, regret, and apologies could be distinguished.

It seemed that, although they managed to create the Groudon-type Golurk, they made the same mistake as Team Rocket: they couldn't control it.

Controlling Groudon's wild thoughts? That seemed impossible.

Even more so when it had such an explosive energy core like Groudon's.

Cain was curious about the symbols the Golurk bore, wondering what they meant and what their purpose was. He was also intrigued by Groudon's patterns, including the "Ω" symbol on its body, and how they were used in creating these Golurk.

Unfortunately, the text didn't provide more details.

However, Cain obtained crucial information: the Groudon-style Golurk was located deep within these ruins.

If he reached that place, he might find what he was looking for.

Additionally, what had been attracting Larvitar was probably that special Golurk.

Cain didn't know if that would be a good or bad thing.

Regardless of the outcome, he felt the need to explore. After coming this far and discovering something so interesting, he couldn't allow himself not to investigate further.

He passed by the chair and the engraved stone and continued down the stairs behind the chair.

"It's possible that the damage here was caused by that special Golurk," Cain thought to himself.

"Also, the Golurk outside the ruins don't just seem to be there to prevent intruders from entering, but also to prevent something inside from getting out."

"How far did the mastery of these ancients go for them to fear their own creation so much? Perhaps it was also an act of reverence towards Groudon, a way to apologize for defiling its existence by trying to replicate its power."

"But the most unsettling thing of all... how did they acquire those materials from Groudon in the first place?"

With every step he took down the stairs, more questions arose in his mind.

If he wanted answers, he would have to go deeper.

Upon reaching the end of the stairs, he found another door. It wasn't as imposing as the main door, but it had the "Ω" symbol engraved on it.

Upon opening it, he encountered something different from the previous area.

It was an open corridor flanked by gardens on both sides.

In ancient times, these gardens were probably full of vibrant plants and flowers.

Now, however, the landscape was desolate.

Although not completely desolate, since some plants still survived.

Curious, Cain stepped out of the corridor and headed toward the plants.

The ground, dry and hard as cement, evidenced that this land had been deprived of water for a long time—an environment in which most plants couldn't survive.

That's why these plants were especially strange.

As he approached, he noticed that some had black holes in their trunks, which together formed sinister faces, like those of ghostly creatures in dark forests.

The system activated its scanner, providing detailed information.

It's a Trevenant!

Among the data collected, the strongest Trevenant was a specimen at level 56 with a Light Blue quality.

A ghost and grass-type Pokémon.

It wasn't surprising that they could survive in a place like this, since they didn't require much water to live.

Although this space was mostly a desert, that didn't mean it completely lacked water.

Probably, if their roots reached deep enough, they could access a hidden water source.

That explained how these Trevenant had survived all this time.

Upon noticing that Cain and his Pokémon had stopped their advance, the Trevenant who had been motionless opened their eyes.

The largest one, in the center, opened an intense red eye, which glowed with a bloody gleam.

For an ordinary person, the sight of a Trevenant in this state could be terrifying.

The most cowardly would flee immediately, while the most reckless and aggressive might attack without thinking.

However, Trevenant is not an aggressive Pokémon by nature.

Although its appearance may be intimidating, its character is surprisingly peaceful.

They only attack those who harm the forests, while they are kind to those who respect their home.

They are the true guardians of the forests, taking on this responsibility since they were little Phantump.

Even though they had been in this place for a long time and hadn't seen other living beings, these Trevenant seemed naive and simple in behavior.

They simply stared at Cain, without making any hostile move.

It was precisely because no danger was detected that Slowking, who was next to Cain, didn't act immediately.

As a psychic-type Pokémon, Slowking had quickly sensed the presence of these ghost-type Pokémon.

"Trevenant is usually native to Kalos. Seeing them here is quite surprising," Cain thought as he looked at them.

With a faint smile, he took out a bottle of pure water from his storage space and, using his psychic powers, offered it to the nearest Trevenant.
