"Next!!"
Liam shouted impatiently.
"Ggrrrr!"
Arcanine also let out an impatient growl.
After recalling her Victreebel into its PokeBall, Sara walked back with a slightly displeased expression, hands on her hips as she glared at Liam, as if blaming him for being too harsh.
"Please, Gym Leader, send out your next Pokémon."
At the critical moment, it was up to little Erica to step in. She didn't give Sara any face as she urged her to continue.
"Ah! Erica, you're so mean! You're not helping Mommy at all! Hmph, Mommy will definitely show you her strength and prove how amazing she is! Go, my darling! I choose you, Tangela!" Sara pouted angrily upon hearing Erica's words and immediately sent out her second Pokémon, a Tangela.
"Tangela, use Sleep Powder!"
This time, Sara didn't hesitate and launched her attack directly.
"Tang!"
Tangela shook its body, releasing a large amount of Sleep Powder that quickly floated toward Arcanine.
"Arcanine, use Heat Wave to blow away the Sleep Powder!" Liam knew how troublesome Grass-type powder moves could be, but Arcanine had Heat Wave, which was perfect for countering such attacks.
"Grrr!"
Arcanine let out a low growl, and a powerful wave of fiery heat surged from its body. After swirling around a few times, the heat wave was released, blowing away all the Sleep Powder that had drifted near its body.
The remaining heat wave continued to rush along the ground toward Tangela.
"Tangela, use Vine Whip to jump up!"
Now fully alert, Sara showcased her skills as a Gym Leader, calmly and accurately making her next move.
"Tang!"
Two vine whips quickly extended from Tangela's body, slamming into the ground. The recoil from the vines launched Tangela into the air, allowing it to perfectly dodge the incoming Heat Wave.
"That's it! Tangela, go in and use Bind!" Sara commanded Tangela, which was still in the air.
Tangela twisted its body mid-air, and several vines shot out, aiming to wrap around Arcanine.
"Not a chance! Arcanine, use Fire Fang! Bite through those vines!"
Liam wasn't about to let Tangela bind Arcanine so easily.
"Roar!"
As soon as Arcanine heard the command, it opened its mouth wide, flames gathering to form four massive fiery fangs.
Then, it pushed off with its hind legs, leaping into the air and snapping its fiery jaws at the incoming vines.
"Retract the vines and use Stun Spore!"
Seeing Arcanine leap into the air, Sara smirked and immediately changed her strategy.
"Tang!"
Tangela obeyed, retracting its vines just as Arcanine's jaws snapped shut on empty air. Then, Tangela shook its body again, releasing a cloud of golden Stun Spore.
"Arcanine, use Flamethrower!"
Liam realized he had been too careless with his previous command. Arcanine, now in the air, had lost its speed advantage, and Heat Wave was no longer an option.
Flamethrower was the only way to counter.
"Grrr!"
The flames from Fire Fang hadn't dissipated yet, and even stronger flames began to gather in Arcanine's mouth.
As the Stun Spore closed in, Arcanine unleashed a torrent of fire, slamming into Tangela, which was also in the air and unable to dodge.
"Tangela!" Sara cried out in worry as she watched Tangela, now smoking, plummet to the ground and crash heavily.
Meanwhile, Arcanine was also affected by the Stun Spore. As it landed, strange golden currents of electricity began to crackle across its body, clearly indicating it had been paralyzed.
"Hang in there, Tangela! Use Ingrain!"
Sara shouted anxiously at her still-smoking Tangela.
"Tang! Tang!"
Arcanine's Flamethrower had dealt massive damage to Tangela, nearly knocking it out in one hit like the previous Victreebel.
Upon hearing its trainer's command, Tangela extended its charred vines, deeply embedding them into the ground to absorb nutrients and recover its health.
"Arcanine! Don't let it recover! Use Extreme Speed!"
Seeing Tangela begin to heal itself, Liam knew he couldn't afford to delay any longer and immediately ordered Arcanine to strike.
"Grr… Roar!!"
Arcanine let out a roar, but as soon as it tried to move, the paralyzing currents surged through its body, leaving it immobilized.
"Damn it! Return for now, Arcanine! Weavile, finish this! Use Quick Attack!"
Liam knew that Arcanine's mobility was severely reduced after being paralyzed, so it wasn't wise to keep it in battle. He recalled Arcanine with a look of relief on its face and quickly threw out Weavile's PokeBall.
As soon as Weavile appeared, its entire body turned into a silver streak, slamming into Tangela, which was still recovering with Ingrain.
Tangela let out a cry of pain as it was knocked off the ground, its vines disconnecting from the earth and stopping its recovery.
"Icy Wind!"
"Weavile!"
As soon as Tangela was knocked into the air, Liam's next command followed. Weavile swung its claws, releasing a freezing gust of wind that gave Tangela a taste of both fire and ice.
The now thoroughly defeated Tangela turned into a block of ice and crashed to the ground, its eyes spinning as it fainted.
"Tangela is unable to battle! The little black one wins..."
Little Erica, who didn't seem to recognize Weavile, referred to it as "the black little one."
Only after defeating its opponent did Weavile notice the strange smell in the air. Its eyes widened as it covered its nose with its claws, looking around for the source of the stench.
Finally, it stared in horror at the Gloom in Erica's arms, its eyes filled with dread.
"...Just one more battle to go. Hang in there, Weavile. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can escape this nightmare..." Liam felt like he was starting to lose his mind.
He was certain that if he stayed in this stinky environment any longer, he'd completely break down.
On the other side, Sara lowered her head and took out her PokeBall. She walked over to the frozen Tangela, opened the PokeBall, and recalled it.
Holding the PokeBall to her lips, she whispered softly.
"Hehehe, Tangela, you did great. I'll avenge you now."
With that, Sara stood up and walked back, taking out her final PokeBall and throwing it high into the air.
"Go! My Venusaur! Show them your power!"
A flash of light revealed a massive toad-like Pokémon standing in the middle of the field.
On its back was a huge flower, with four long leaves hanging down around it. Its four thick, cylindrical legs stomped heavily on the ground, creating a series of rumbling sounds.
This was the final evolution of Bulbasaur, the increasingly awkward-looking Venusaur!
"Venusaur!!"
Liam felt a wave of despair as he looked at the newly appeared Venusaur.
Glancing at Sara, who was now radiating a dark aura as she stood silently with her head lowered, he couldn't help but cry out in his heart.
"Of course... the most dangerous thing in the world is an angry woman. They're like the spring sky—bright and sunny one moment, and thunderous the next."
As Liam was lost in his thoughts, Sara raised her head with a smile, her eyes narrowing as she softly said,
"Venusaur... crush them."
