Pokemon: Legends of Kanto

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Pewter City Gym Battle!

The journey from Viridian City to Pewter City was tougher than Alex expected. The Viridian Forest was dense, filled with wild Pokémon and eager trainers looking for battles.

Despite the challenges, he used this time to train.

Spearow practiced its agility, dodging wild attacks with increasing speed.

Riolu strengthened its Force Palm, breaking boulders with sheer willpower.

By the time Pewter City's stone buildings came into view, Alex was more than ready.

Standing at the entrance of the city was Daniel Oak, already waiting.

"Took you long enough," Daniel smirked. "I already had my Gym Battle."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "And?"

Daniel grinned, holding up a gray Boulder Badge. "Won without breaking a sweat."

Alex crossed his arms. "So Brock's no joke?"

Daniel nodded. "He's got a really strong Onix. Hit my Growlithe hard."

Alex smirked. "Good. I like a challenge."

Without another word, he walked toward the Pewter City Gym.

Inside Pewter Gym

The moment Alex stepped inside, the air changed.

The Gym was built like a rocky canyon, boulders scattered across the battlefield. The walls were made of solid stone, and at the far end stood Brock, the Gym Leader.

Brock crossed his arms, a confident smirk on his face. "Another challenger?"

Alex nodded. "I'm Alex Ketchum from Pallet Town. I'm here for my first Gym Badge."

Brock nodded. "Alright. Standard Gym Rules: A two-on-two battle. If you can defeat me, you earn the Boulder Badge."

Alex grinned. "Let's go."

A referee stepped onto the field. "This will be a two-on-two match between Challenger Alex Ketchum and Gym Leader Brock! Begin!"

---

Battle Start!

Brock pulled out a Poké Ball. "Geodude, you're up!"

With a flash of light, a Geodude appeared, flexing its rocky arms.

Alex smirked. "Spearow, let's do this!"

Spearow emerged in a flurry of wings, screeching loudly.

Brock made the first move. "Geodude, Rock Throw!"

Geodude lifted a large rock and hurled it toward Spearow.

Alex's eyes narrowed. "Dodge and use Peck!"

Spearow twisted mid-air, dodging the rock before diving down. Its beak glowed as it struck Geodude's head.

The attack landed—but Geodude barely flinched.

Brock smirked. "Geodude, Rollout!"

Geodude curled into a ball and spun at high speed, aiming for Spearow.

Alex reacted fast. "Spearow, use Agility!"

Spearow's body glowed, its speed drastically increasing. It zipped through the air, dodging Rollout at the last second.

Brock's eyes widened. "Fast…"

Alex smirked. "Now, Fury Attack!"

Spearow spun mid-air, rapidly pecking Geodude multiple times before breaking away.

Geodude wobbled, dazed from the rapid hits.

Brock clenched his fists. "Geodude, Rock Throw again!"

Geodude threw another boulder—but missed completely.

Alex saw his chance. "Spearow, Aerial Ace!"

Spearow glowed white, dived forward, and slammed into Geodude at full force.

Geodude hit the ground hard—and didn't get up.

The referee raised his hand. "Geodude is unable to battle! The challenger takes the lead!"

Brock recalled Geodude, nodding in approval. "Not bad, Alex. But now, let's see if you can handle this."

He pulled out his second Poké Ball.

"Go, Onix!"

A massive Onix burst onto the battlefield, towering over Spearow. It let out a deafening roar, shaking the entire Gym.

Alex's smirk faltered. "That's… huge."

Brock grinned. "Think you can handle it?"

Alex took a deep breath. "Spearow, you did great. Return!"

He pulled out his second Poké Ball.

"Riolu, let's finish this!"

Riolu landed on the battlefield, clenching its fists, staring up at the massive Onix without fear.

Brock nodded. "Alright, Alex. Let's see what you've got."

Final Battle: Riolu vs. Onix

Brock took the first move. "Onix, Bind!"

Onix lunged forward, attempting to coil around Riolu.

Alex reacted quickly. "Riolu, dodge and use Force Palm!"

Riolu flipped backward, dodging the attack before slamming its glowing palm into Onix's side.

A shockwave rippled through the battlefield.

Brock's eyes widened. "That actually did damage?!"

Onix wobbled slightly, but it wasn't down yet.

Brock clenched his fist. "Alright, Onix! Rock Tomb!"

Onix slammed its tail into the ground, sending massive rocks flying toward Riolu.

Alex's eyes narrowed. Too fast to dodge.

"Riolu, brace yourself and use Counter!"

Riolu crossed its arms as the rocks slammed into its body. But instead of falling, Riolu's body glowed red—absorbing the impact.

Then, in an instant, it unleashed all that power back at Onix.

BOOM!

The shockwave sent Onix crashing against the gym wall, leaving a dent in the rock.

Brock's jaw dropped. "No way…"

Onix let out a low groan. It tried to rise—but its body slumped back down.

The referee raised his hand. "Onix is unable to battle! The winner is Alex Ketchum!"

The Gym fell silent.

Then, the crowd of trainers burst into cheers.

Alex grinned, running over to Riolu. "We did it, buddy."

Riolu smiled, exhausted but victorious.

Brock walked over, chuckling. "You're the real deal, Alex. That was an impressive battle."

He held out a small, gray badge.

"This is the Boulder Badge. You've earned it."

Alex took the badge, a feeling of pride swelling in his chest. His first Gym Badge.

Daniel, who had been watching from the stands, smirked. "Not bad, Ketchum."

Alex grinned. "This is just the beginning."

As he pocketed the Boulder Badge, he looked toward the next destination:

Cerulean City.

The journey was far from over.
