Chapter 405: Chapter 87: Trump Card
He had anticipated a hard-fought battle against Ash, but he hadn't expected to be outmatched this thoroughly.
With only one Pokémon remaining, his position as the chief trainer of the Orange Alliance felt precarious.
Drake took a deep breath, locking eyes with Ash. Despite the one-sided nature of the battle so far, his spirit remained unbroken.
"Your skill is undeniable, Mr. Ash," Drake said, his voice firm, though his expression betrayed his exhaustion.
"Thank you," Ash replied, bowing slightly. Though calm on the surface, he could sense the weight of the moment. Drake's next Pokémon would undoubtedly be his strongest—his trump card.
Drake reached for the Poké Ball hanging on a chain around his neck, a gleaming silver sphere that had seen countless battles. He held it up, the sun reflecting off its polished surface.
"If you think this battle is over, you're mistaken," Drake declared. "It's time to show you the true pride of the Orange Alliance!"
With a powerful throw, Drake released his final Pokémon. A burst of radiant light erupted from the Poké Ball, illuminating the battlefield.
"Go, Dragonite!" Drake's voice boomed, reverberating through the stadium.
As the light faded, the imposing figure of Dragonite emerged. Standing over two meters tall, its orange, dragon-like body exuded power.
Its large, expressive eyes scanned the battlefield with a mix of curiosity and determination, while its green-and-blue wings flapped once, sending a gust of wind rippling through the arena.

The crowd erupted in cheers at the sight of Drake's iconic Dragonite. The Pokémon was a legend in its own right, having defended Drake's title for years.
Its sheer size and power radiated dominance, making even the most seasoned Trainers in the audience gape in awe.
Ash observed Dragonite carefully, taking note of its presence and aura. As a Champion-level Trainer in his own right, he knew fully well what he was up against.
"So, this is his trump card..." he murmured as a smile crept across his face. This was his kind of battle—a true clash of titans.
Pikachu perked up on Ash's shoulder, its ears twitching with excitement. It could sense the immense power emanating from Dragonite, and its competitive spirit flared.
Ash considered his options carefully. Blastoise and Venusaur were both fatigued from their previous battles, and though Pikachu was eager to fight, Ash decided to save it for the final moments.
Ash glanced at the iconic Poké Ball on his belt. "Let's go, Charizard!" he declared, tossing the ball high into the air.
With a thundering roar, Charizard burst onto the field, its golden flames igniting the crowd's passion.
Its wings unfurled with a powerful gust of wind that whipped through the battlefield, and the shimmering fire on its tail burned brighter than ever—an emblem of its growth and determination.
Drake's eyes widened slightly as he recognized the telltale golden fire of a Shiny Charizard. "A Shiny Charizard..." he muttered to himself, grinning. "This is going to be one for the history books. Dragonite, we're about to have the battle of a lifetime."
---
The referee raised both flags, signaling the start of the final showdown. "Begin!"
Drake wasted no time. "Dragonite, use Dragon Dance!"
Dragonite began swaying in a rhythmic, hypnotic motion, its body glowing with an escalating aura of red and blue energy. Its attack and speed climbed instantly, and even the battlefield felt the power radiating with every step.
Ash took in a deep breath. "We aren't going easy! Charizard, close in with Sunny Day!"
Charizard flapped its wings, shooting a bright orb of energy into the sky. The artificial sunlight intensified instantly, bathing the battlefield in searing golden light. The crowd murmured with surprise at the tactic.
Lorelei, seated in the stands, smirked and folded her arms. "Typical Ash. He's adapting mid-match already. That Sunny Day buff won't just enhance Charizard's Fire-type moves—it'll also disrupt Dragonite's Ice weakness patch, if Drake was planning anything clever."
Drake, undaunted, pressed forward. "Dragonite, use Extreme Speed!"
Dragonite's body became a blur as it dashed toward Charizard, closing the distance in an instant. It delivered a vicious strike that sent Charizard skidding backward across the rocky terrain.
"Charizard, recover and counter with Dragon Tail! Ash yelled.
Charizard spun on its back claw, its fiery tail glowing ominously with green Dragon-energy. The tail lashed out in response, smashing into Dragonite before it could land its second strike, sending the massive Pokémon tumbling backward.
Drake nodded in approval, his excitement growing. "Good counter. Let's see how you handle this! Dragonite, use Thunder Punch! Close the gap!"
Dragonite roared and lunged forward again, this time charging its fist with crackling electricity as it prepared to strike Charizard directly. Ash reacted quickly.
"Charizard, Smokescreen—stay in the air!"
Charizard leaped into the air with a powerful thrust of its wings, then spun gracefully, expelling thick, black smoke that blanketed the battlefield.
Dragonite's glowing fist smashed through empty air, missing its target completely as the smokescreen expanded, obscuring its movements.
Drake narrowed his eyes and tapped the brim of his hat. "You won't stop Dragonite like that. Use Hurricane!"
Still in the mist, Dragonite flapped its wings furiously, creating a tornado-like vortex tearing through the smoke. The hurricane cleared the field while sending waves of wind toward Charizard midair.
"Charizard, Steel Wing—break through that wind!" Ash shouted.
Charizard's wings gleamed with a metallic sheen as it dove headfirst into the vortex. With a mighty flap of its reinforced wings, it cut through the hurricane, dispersing the winds before landing forcefully in front of Dragonite.
"Now, Dragon Claw!" Ash commanded.
Charizard's claws glowed with green energy as it slashed toward Dragonite with blinding speed.
"Not so fast!" Drake countered. "Dragonite, counter it head-on with Dragon Rush!"
Dragonite's body became enveloped in an intense blue aura as it charged forward, knocking Charizard's Dragon Claw aside with sheer brute power.
Dragonite's momentum slammed into Charizard, hurling it backward into a pile of rubble. Charizard struggled to get up, the strain of the clash visible on its face—but it wasn't done yet.
Ash gritted his teeth but smiled. "Charizard, we can go harder. Ignite with Solar Beam—no charge time!"
Drake's expression became one of shock at the direct offensive move. The presence of Sunny Day removed the waiting charge time for Solar Beam, allowing Charizard to fire the beam immediately.
The powerful yellow-orange blast surged forward, slamming into Dragonite and forcing the massive Pokémon to stagger backward.
---
Drake quickly recovered. "Dragonite, charge up for Hyper Beam!"
Dragonite roared, its mouth filling with a radiant golden sphere of raw energy.
Ash clenched his fist. "Charizard, don't let it fire! Use Seismic Toss!"
Charizard darted forward, its claws gripping Dragonite's middle and hoisting the titanic Pokémon off its feet.
Despite Dragonite's resistance, Charizard used its wings to take to the skies, spinning high above the battlefield.
The crowd roared with amazement as Charizard performed an aerial somersault, carrying Dragonite across the stadium before slamming it down into the ground with thunderous force.
Dust and debris filled the arena as both Pokémon slowly rose from the crater they had created, battered but still willing to fight. They were near their limits.
---
The crowd was on the edge of their seats, captivated by the intensity of the battle.
"This is what the Victor's Cup is all about!" the commentator exclaimed, his voice barely audible over the cheering spectators.
Drake and Ash locked eyes, their mutual respect evident.
"Let's finish this, Dragonite!" Drake declared, raising his arm dramatically. "Use Hyper Beam!"
Dragonite gathered a massive sphere of golden energy in its mouth, preparing to unleash its most powerful attack.
Ash smiled, his confidence unwavering. "Charizard, meet it head-on with Overheat!"
Charizard summoned every ounce of its fiery power, its golden flames intensifying until they glowed white-hot.
The two attacks collided in a blinding explosion, the sheer force shaking the entire stadium.
---
As the dust settled, both Pokémon stood battered and exhausted. Dragonite wavered for a moment before collapsing to the ground, unable to continue.
The referee raised his flag. "Dragonite is unable to fight! The winner is Charizard, and the Victor's Cup goes to Ash!"
The crowd erupted into deafening cheers, celebrating Ash's hard-fought victory.
Drake approached Ash, a smile on his face despite his defeat. "You've proven yourself worthy of the Hall of Fame, Ash. Congratulations."
Ash extended his hand, and Drake shook it firmly. "Thank you, Drake. This was a battle I'll never forget."
As the two Trainers stood together in the center of the battlefield, the crowd's cheers grew even louder, marking the end of an unforgettable Victor's Cup.
