Pokemon: The Breeder's Farming Journey to Modernizing an Ancient World

Chapter 206: Chapter 206: Shinx’s Battle in the Black Forest

Outside the Black Forest

Aven once again arrived here with his Pokémon.

In the past, he had come cautiously, still weak and inexperienced.

But now, his strength was vastly different—he could enter boldly and confidently.

"Meow~ Meow~!"

Shinx ran excitedly at the front of the group.

This was its home. Even after a long winter, the familiarity remained.

"Plume~" Vileplume also let out a nostalgic cry. It, too, once lived here.

"Shinx, I'll need you to lead the way this time."

"Vileplume, try to sense where your clan is and gather them if possible."

Both Pokémon nodded. This expedition into the Black Forest would center around them.

"Let's head in."

Aven patted the Mightyena beneath him and glanced back at the Rhydon carrying their supplies.

"Awooo!"

Mightyena let out a low growl and stepped into the Black Forest.

Shinx darted ahead. Their first destination was the White Appricorn tree.

Under its guidance, Aven arrived at a familiar meadow—the same place where they had once fought a Raticate.

"Meow~"

Just then, the Shinx let out a low cry.

It slightly closed its eyes to sense its surroundings and immediately detected a wave of electrical signals emanating from the grassy area.

"Is there a Pokémon hidden in the grass?"

Aven narrowed his eyes, then ordered, "Shinx, try to pinpoint its location and use Thunder Shock."

Shinx nodded, closed its eyes again, and focused. Electric currents surged over its body, crackling with sparks. After a brief analysis of the signal's location, Shinx unleashed a burst of electricity, shooting it toward a particular patch of grass.

Zzzzt! Zzzzt! Zzzzt!

Crackling electricity exploded on impact, scorching the targeted area of the grass black.

At that moment, rustling noises came from the nearby underbrush, and a Rattata suddenly darted out. Its purple figure flashed by and quickly disappeared into the grass on the other side, clearly trying to escape from the dangerous situation.

"Shinx, don't let it get away!"

At Aven's command, Shinx dashed after the fleeing Rattata. It continued to lock onto Rattata using the electric signals radiating from its body as a guide.

Shinx moved incredibly fast and caught up with Rattata in the blink of an eye. Electric currents surged across its fur as it unleashed Quick Attack!

Shinx's figure blurred like a bolt of lightning, appearing right in front of the Rattata and crashing into it head-on.

Boom! Rattata was sent flying.

Its purple body flickered with electricity, clearly affected by the electrical attack. By the time it hit the ground, arcs of electricity were still coursing over it, and its body had been scorched black. It had already lost consciousness.

"Well done, Shinx."

Aven, still riding his Mightyena, approached the fallen Rattata. He gently patted the Petilil's head beside him.

"Lil~"

Petilil understood and released a faint green glow, giving the Rattata a simple healing treatment.

"Let's move on."

After healing Rattata, Aven and his team continued forward.

Along the way, using its ability to sense electrical waves, Shinx discovered several opponents hiding in the forest. Under Aven's guidance, it repeatedly practiced fighting with its eyes closed, relying purely on the electrical signals. Its Thunder Shock attack accuracy improved steadily.

"Meow~ Meow~"

After traveling a bit further, Shinx signaled that they were almost there.

It was very familiar with the White Apricorn tree up ahead—it had often snuck fruits from it before.

But just as they approached, a foul stench suddenly hit them, along with a strange odor.

"This smell... is it Gloom's stench?"

Aven sniffed the air and suddenly felt dizzy.

The stench was overwhelmingly foul, far worse than that of a normal Gloom. Even Aven, who had undergone training, found it unbearable.

"Plume~"

The Vileplume beside him sniffed carefully, then shook its head.

After identifying the scent, it concluded that the smell wasn't from one of its kind—the odor was completely different.

"Not Gloom? Could it be a Skuntank?"

"That must be it. The one guarding the White Apricorn tree is a Skuntank."

"But this stench is really unusual... Could it be a Skuntank with the Stench ability?"

Aven speculated, feeling a surge of excitement. If it was still the same Skuntank as before, that meant the Pecha Berry tree must still be intact.

"Plume~"

Seeing that the stench lingered, the considerate Vileplume used Sweet Scent.

A wave of sweet fragrance spread through the air, clearing away the stench and freshening the surroundings.

The other Pokémon, especially Mightyena, sighed in relief—the stench had been suffocating. They all looked gratefully at Vileplume.

"Let's go find that Skuntank."

Aven smiled and led his Pokémon onward again.

But as they walked, he suddenly paused. In the distance, a Rattata lay collapsed on the ground.

Rustle rustle...

The grass in the distance parted, and a Skuntank suddenly sprang out.

It grabbed the fallen Rattata in its mouth, then looked warily at Aven.

"Meow~"

Shinx crouched low, ready for battle.

It noticed—this Skuntank wasn't the same one as before!

Rustle rustle...

Just then, several Stunky emerged from the grass. They glared at Aven and his Pokémon, baring their teeth in warning.

"So many Stunky? Looks like this area's been taken over by a Skuntank pack."

Aven's eyes moved between the Stunky and the Skuntank. The White Apricorn tree was just ahead—there was no way he was backing down.

"RHYDON!"

Sensing an impending battle, the Rhydon growled excitedly, clearly eager to fight.

"Shinx, this battle is yours."

Aven patted the Rhydon to calm it down, then turned to Shinx.

The Stunky could wait—this Skuntank was an excellent opponent.

Saying that, Aven dismounted from Mightyena and walked behind Shinx, ready to command directly.

"Tank!"

Seeing that its intimidation didn't scare off its opponent, the Skuntank assumed a battle stance.

Without waiting for Shinx to act, it charged—its large body packed a lot of force.

"Shinx, use Quick Attack to dodge!"

At Aven's command, Shinx's figure flashed and vanished, leaving behind a trail of white light.

Quick Attack was a special move—boosting both speed and attack, it often allowed the user to strike first.

This move was one of Shinx's inherited techniques and a big reason why it was so fast.

Inheriting Quick Attack meant its speed potential was exceptional—few at the same level could match it.

Swish! Shinx vanished and reappeared at Skuntank's side.

"Quick Attack!"

Aven commanded again.

Unfortunately, Shinx's transition between moves wasn't smooth yet. The electricity had already dissipated when it charged, and the impact only caused physical damage.

Skuntank quickly regained balance and countered with a claw swipe, sending Shinx flying!

"A Intermediate-tier beast!"

After that clash, Aven made an assessment.

Shinx clearly had the speed advantage, but its offense and defense lagged behind.

"Meow!"

Shinx stabilized in midair and landed lightly.

It looked back at Aven, frustrated it had failed to use Quick Attack effectively.

"It's fine. Let's use Quick Attack again."

This time, Shinx prepared thoroughly, electrical currents surging around its body as it dashed forward to strike Skuntank.

Skuntank responded with Fury Swipes. The two collided head-on.

Boom!

Electric sparks flew. For a brief moment, both Pokémon were locked in a stalemate.

Thanks to its speed boost, the power of Quick Attack increased significantly, barely managing to hold off Skuntank.

But as the struggle continued, Skuntank exerted more force and flung Shinx away again.

Then, it suddenly exhaled a cloud of purple toxic gas, aiming it directly at Shinx.

Sensing the incoming poison, Shinx panicked and tried to flee.

But Aven commanded, "Shinx, ignore it—use Quick Attack now!"

Shinx hesitated briefly but quickly responded. Electricity flared as it shot forward.

Quick Attack sent it right in front of the Skuntank, slamming into it just as it was releasing gas.

Caught off guard, Skuntank was hit full-force. Arcs of electricity spread across its body, and it was knocked back.

"Meow~"

Shinx landed and gasped for breath.

But then, a sickly purple glow appeared on its body—it had been poisoned.

Seeing this, Petilil looked worried and instinctively tried to use Aromatherapy, but Aven stopped it.

"Shinx, you okay?"

Shinx nodded, lightning sparking once more.

"Good. Use Quick Attack again!"

Zzzzt!

Electricity gathered around Shinx as its eyes filled with resolve. The electric aura grew stronger.

Skuntank stood up too, glancing at Shinx. It gathered energy and charged again.

Though it was just a basic Tackle, Skuntank's massive size gave it a formidable presence.

Zzzap!

Shinx charged, cloaked in electric light. The two clashed midair.

Petilil and the others watched with worry—Shinx and Skuntank were vastly different in size!

But in the next moment, they all froze in surprise. Skuntank's massive body was knocked backward—it had been overpowered by Shinx!

"The Guts ability really is impressive," Aven said with a faint smile.

Guts was Shinx's hidden ability, which greatly boosted its attack when afflicted by a status condition.

That's why, even while poisoned, Shinx's power had surged and allowed it to overpower Skuntank in direct combat!
