A dozen seconds later, the thick smoke from the explosion gradually cleared, revealing the scene on the battlefield to both trainers and spectators.

The once lush, green Grass Field was now devastated, and Altaria lay in a massive crater, covered in wounds and long unconscious.

On the other side of the battlefield, Nidoking still stood proudly, gazing calmly at the opponent he had just defeated.

In the stands, most spectators wore expressions of disbelief, unable to accept the fact that Clair's Altaria had been defeated by the Nidoking of an unknown trainer.

For a moment, it was as if time froze, and the entire venue fell into an unnervingly eerie silence.

"Altaria is unable to battle. The winner is Nidoking. Blue-side trainer, please send out your next Pokémon."

The referee paid no mind to the crowd's feelings. After silently counting several seconds without Altaria getting back up, he immediately raised one flag and declared the result loudly.

"Woooaaah~~~"

In the next moment, a wave of noise swept through the stands. Excited voices rose alongside enthusiastic applause until the entire arena resounded with clapping.

Perhaps Sato was not from Johto, making him less likable to many local-born spectators, but victory was still victory, and they were not stingy in offering applause to the winner.

Clair, as expected of someone from a top-tier trainer family, had remarkable composure. She showed no discouragement over Altaria's loss, nor was she swayed by the change in the crowd's attitude. Instead, her eyes seemed to blaze with even greater fighting spirit as she locked her gaze on Sato.

"Come back, Altaria, you did well."

"Unknown strong one, I apologize. Please forgive my earlier arrogance. From here on, I will do my utmost to defeat you."

"Let's go, Kingdra — enjoy this battle to your heart's content."

She returned Altaria to its PokeBall, put away her whip, looked Sato straight in the eye, and then tossed a PokeBall with a dragon claw emblem high into the air.

The moment it opened, a muffled boom of thunder rumbled from the sky above the battlefield, and the thick white clouds visibly darkened to black.

As the first raindrop fell from the now-overcast sky, a nearly three-meter-tall purple Kingdra landed steadily on the grass. Its eyes were still closed, but when they opened to reveal blood-red irises, an oppressive Dragon-type aura burst forth.

In that instant, a streak of lightning cut across the clouded sky. Many spectators went pale, and when the accompanying thunder cracked, some weak ones even fainted on the spot.

"Whoa! A purple Kingdra — that's a shiny Pokémon!"

"It's here! Clair's ace — the Shiny Kingdra!"

"Incredible… That pressure earlier, that was Dragon Pressure, right? I've seen it on TV before. I thought it was just for show, but it's real! No wonder so many people fainted!"

"This time that Kanto kid is done for. Clair's Shiny Kingdra once had a terrifying six-opponent sweep in the Silver Conference!"

"Don't count him out just yet. If this Kanto trainer could force Clair to send out her ace, then she clearly acknowledges his strength. Calling the match now might get you slapped in the face later."

"Come on, Clair! I've bet everything I own on you winning — you must win!"

Seeing Clair send out her Shiny Kingdra sent a surge of excitement through the crowd. Many Johto locals cheered her name passionately once again.

"Shiny Kingdra…"

Sato's eyes lit up in surprise at the sight of a purple Kingdra whose very entrance altered the weather.

This was the first time he had seen someone pull out a shiny Pokémon against him — and not just any Pokémon, but a Dragon-type radiating some special power.

In the next moment, he activated his system's scanning function to check its stats, and the results made him realize he couldn't keep using Nidoking and the others for mere training in this match.

Sato's eyes gleamed as his heart pounded at the sight of its stats, especially the unique shiny ability.

From the data alone, it was clear just how exceptional this Kingdra was. Its individual values and qualities were top-tier — and on top of that, it possessed an immensely powerful shiny-exclusive trait.

Even without considering its Dragonair-level weather control, just the 20% increase in base stats was enough to drive trainers mad with envy.

A normal Kingdra's base stat total was 540; with the 20% boost, this Shiny Kingdra reached a staggering 648 — higher than pseudo-legendaries by 48 points, with even greater potential than most Dragon pseudo-legendaries.

Sato could easily imagine Clair rising to the very top of the trainer world in the future if she simply raised this Shiny Kingdra well.

"It's hard to imagine… With such a powerful Dragon-type, she still only placed second in this Johto League. Just how strong was the champion? The League truly is full of hidden monsters."

Shaking off the unrealistic thought of somehow claiming Clair's Shiny Kingdra for himself, Sato sighed inwardly.

"Since Miss Clair thinks so highly of me, I won't hold back either. Let's enjoy this battle."

"But I have no intention of stopping here — tell your Shiny Kingdra not to get itself killed out of arrogance."

"Come out, Swampert! We've found a worthy opponent — fight with everything you've got!"

Gathering his focus, Sato called out his next Pokémon.

The moment the PokeBall burst open under the pouring rain, a massive Swampert appeared on the field.

"SWAAAMP!!"

The instant Swampert appeared, it felt the overwhelming dragon aura coming from Shiny Kingdra and instantly became agitated.

Its muscles swelled, its body rose even higher, transforming into a hulking muscular beast. Slamming its massive hands into the ground, it let out a deafening roar.

The entire battlefield shook violently, and a primal, beastly aura erupted from Swampert — one that not only caused more spectators to faint but also completely overpowered Shiny Kingdra's Dragon Pressure.
