Chapter 285: Happy.
Meanwhile, Finn was finally fighting for his life, or at least his body and soul, on the other side of the city, Hector was coming out of the hospital, where he had a meeting with one of the doctors talking about the next steps of his sister's medication.
He had not even a single idea of what the fuck was happening, because his phone was off… yeah, the underboss of the family, who was in power while James was out of the country, had his phone off… what a mistake to make. But not just that, he was alone.
Not a single bodyguard went with him, because for him this moment was something big, something personal… he wanted to have all of it to himself.
"So then in the next 6 months she will get injections?" Hector asked as the doctor was escorting him out.
"Exactly, when she comes back, she will have 3 injections every month for 6 months straight, and it will help her system, her muscles, and then the therapy can start." The doctor smiled at him. "If everything goes well, she could stand on her own in a year, and maybe can walk in the next 2 to 3 years."
He lit up… yeah, that smile on Hector's face was bigger than ever. He was so happy to hear it, that there is an actual possibility that she can walk, to enjoy her life to the fullest. Something he couldn't believe to be actually possible… but now it is actually possible. She can actually experience life outside of a hospital room, on her own.
Yeah, that smile didn't fade away from his face as they walked toward the parking lot, and Hector himself didn't even speak a word. He just couldn't; what the doctor said to him pushed away all his thoughts… it was just too much to understand the meaning of it.
And it was all thanks to James… yeah, he found him that day… the day he was supposed to die… he found him and put him in a position that changed his life forever… he helped him achieve this… he paid for this. If there wouldn't have been a James Bellini, there wouldn't be Hector, there wouldn't be a smile on his face… and maybe there wouldn't be his sister anymore.
That is the great thing about it, the thing that is just fascinating.
James did so much, and he doesn't even know about it… he helped so many people in the family. And yet he never asked for thanks. Maybe that's why everyone follows him, maybe that's why the family keeps going forward, because James is not just a man… he is something more. For Hector, he is the reason he could still smile, the reason he can still call himself alive.
Maybe his mind is shattered a bit, maybe he is emotionally damaged… a person who at times loses control over himself… but he is their James… the man they would die for.
Yeah… die for.
"I need to go back, Hector." the doctor said as he stopped before the stairs leading to the parking lot. "But once again, I highly recommend—"
"We will." Hector didn't even wait for him to finish… his voice was full of emotion, something rare for him. "If it's really that good, we will of course do it, doc. No matter how much it costs… if she can truly walk once again, then it's worth everything."
Even on the doctor's face, a smile curled about… a murderer, a torturer, a psychopath… and still, how happy he is for his sister. "She will," he said. "It's going to take time. And pain. But… yes. She can walk again… but now calm down, Hector, and tell her the news." He said as he offered his hand.
"I will immediately go to tell her." he said as he just smiled even more, a gentle smile, and shook the doc's hand. "Fuck, how many days have I dreamed of this?"
"Dream big, they say… have a good night, Hector."
"You too, doc. Have a wonderful night." He said as he shook his hand and then turned and walked down the stairs toward the parking lot. That was when he noticed that his phone was off.
To be true, he didn't worry too much about it. Why would he?
In his mind, everything was going fine. There wasn't any threat or attacks; the country is in a national emergency… the rats are hiding in the shadows… nothing to be worried about, and well, his happiness pushed down all his bad thoughts.
Though he looked around to be sure, but there was nothing unordinary, just the doctors, nurses cars parked down, and of course his. The big, chunky armored SUV in the middle, looking like a tank… but as he got closer and closer to it, there was the first thing that just screamed that something was off.
Hector is not a dumb man… well, sometimes yes, but he is careful about the family, and of course, there is Ramirez too and the other ex-soldiers. So, to be effective if something bad happens they bought military-grade walkie-talkies, which range is huge, and not just that, they can function as satellite phones too. With them, they could call up the higher-ranking members of the family if something goes really wrong, and of course broadcast it to everybody in the family.
But what he saw in front of him was bad. A red blinking light lit up the whole inside of the car, and it was the emergency button, which, if pressed, only means one thing:
Something fucked up is happening.
And he immediately knew it was not an accident. The ones who have the emergency button are Ramizer, Finn, James, Ferucci, Bella… but it could have been only Finn or Ramizer, and the chance that they pressed it accidentally was literally zero.
He stopped for a moment once again looking around, but still there was nothing, not a single voice, nobody nearby, or at least he thought, beast as he walked toward the car now with a faster pace suddenly a voice came from behind him.
"Hector Bellini…." A voice with a… familiar accent from a familiar country. "Sinatra sends his regards."
There was no time to turn around, not even time to fully realize it… just three shots, three shells.
And one body.
