Pretending to Be an Untouchable Crime Boss

Chapter 287: Who would you die for?

There was silence for a minute as the sicario just stared at Hector while he was still pointing behind his back, but he didn't turn… no, he didn't, but it was again something different. Hector's eyes had this certainty in them… what a good liar.

"Do you think I'm stupid enough to turn back?" He chuckled. "The moment I do, you reach for your gun, Hector, don't you?"

He lowered his hands as a small smile widened on his face. "I thought… you would fall for it."

"Huh, I almost did though." He laughed as he shook his head. "What petty trick was it, Hector? But hey, at least you tried to do something." He looked at his watch. "But time is ticking. I need to kill Sophia too… but before that, I think I will have fun with her, you know, like with your mother and sister." Again, that disgusting smile on his face. "How does it feel to hear this before you die?"

Same thing again, the fucking cartel and their psychopathic sicarios, whose only job is not just to kill, but put the fear and despair into their victims… how helpless their family will be, how everybody is going to die, how everybody is going to suffer.

Worst of the worst feelings in the world… to be just hopeless while this motherfucker tells what he is going to do with your mother, your little sister, your friends… with that disgusting smile on his face that just tells you he is not lying, that he has done this before… who knows how many times.

He not only kills but destroys everybody's life in the process, and this is what the sicario's job is, the ones that Sinatra hired… they don't do the average thing, car bomb, kill with a bullet, no… they are going after everybody you love, and will tell them how it all happened because of you… that you chose this path, and this path only led to death.

They act on the same feeling that James himself experiences and experienced when Rafel and Hans died… the difference is that for James, it is disgust, his own suffering, knowing they died because of him… while for the sicario in front of Hector, it is simply something enjoyable to do.

To tell Hector's little sister, his mother, that it's all because of him… that he is going to do what he is going to do because Hector chose this path, a path that only led to death.

And that was the worst of it all, once again hearing it, knowing that if he really dies right now, there is that small chance that this fucker could really get his hands on them… yeah, that small "what if" in Hector.

What if Finn, Ramirez don't act fast, because Hector's family is not the first for them? No, the Bellini family is the first, and they will only concentrate on that… what if his family, what if Amanda and his mother, would truly get caught in that even though he sent them to a safe house.

Despair hit him hard… maybe too hard and the sicario noticed it.

"Hector, I give you an opportunity, and on my name and God, I promise I would not touch your family." He said as he lowered the gun and looked deep into Hector's eyes. "Betray the Bellini family, and you will not suffer, nor will your family. I only have a couple of questions and nothing more, if you answer right, they live."

A lie, of course it was a lie… who would believe in a sicario? A promise for him means nothing, even more than nothing, just words they use to manipulate people in despair, and when they get what they want, they will lean in and say, "I lied," and kill. They do exactly what they promised not to.

And Hector knew it very well… but there was something deep in his soul… he wanted to push down all of this as the pain still surged in him, as that motherfucker just stared at him… he knew he can't fold, he can't beg, he can't say anything, show weakness… yeah, he can't say anything, because even if it's about his family… he made a blood oath, made a pact, he became a Bellini… and the mafia is more than everything.

Without that, nothing could have happened, without it, he would already be dead. But everything has changed… if he dies… there's a chance they will escape, that Amanda will walk again, that his mother will mourn him… but she will still be alive.

They say family first… but which one?

The blood that raised you, or the blood you spilled for the name they gave you?

To die for the family of his birth would mean betraying the one that made him who he is today.

To die for the family that raised him would mean leaving behind those who gave him everything in life… the opportunity to become who he is today.

Which one do you die for? Which one matters most?

The question just kept coming and coming in his mind… he got manipulated by the sicario offer… his mind got corrupted by it.

Is James really worth that much? Did he ever even appreciate him? Did he ever do anything great for him?

He knew the answer was yes to all of it, but still… those questions were heavy, putting doubt in him. The biggest weakness of him, and why others tend not to have family in his business, why they abandon their own… to not let them become a target, a weapon for manipulation.

The weakness of Hector… the biggest one… one that he would do anything to protect them.

"So?" The sicario asked as he saw that he broke Hector Bellini… the great man of the stories, just broke in front of him… how satisfying was it.

Yeah, a question Hector knew was coming, a question he needed to answer before he died… a question that was his judgment. But… he had made that decision a long time ago.

"I'm…" He looked into his eyes with a faint smile. "... a Bellini.
