Chapter 289: Silence
Hector stayed silent as he eyed them… Darvik? Who the fuck is Darvik, and what does he mean by 'great friend of James'?
He thought about every possibility that it is the same fucking cartel or maybe some other people who want to fuck with them… but then why aren't they aiming their weapons? Why do they look calm?
Yeah, it was a strange situation, especially for Hector… he got shot, then almost killed by a sicario, then these guys show up out of nowhere saying they are sent by a friend of James. Though something told him they are fiends… they just seemed too professional with weapons and shit that are expensive.
"What do you mean you were late?" Hector asked, still not sure.
"We were sent to protect you from Sinatra." the man said as he looked at Hector. "They sent out hit teams to kill you, Finn, Ramirez and a lady called Sophia, and many others. Though, we were able to arrive in time for Sophia and Ramirez and the family is already armed up to repel any attack."
Yeah, indeed the family is ready because as Ramirez heard the news he activated the highest alert in the family, sent protection to all the warehouses, and sent a team to Dani.
The family was armed up to be able to kill whoever wants to fuck with them.
Though Hector noticed something… something that was a bit worrying.
"Finn?" Yeah, he didn't say Finn's name. "What's up with him?"
"He… is in a bad condition, a really bad one, so he got airlifted to the hospital."
They weren't ready for it… the thoughts in Hector's mind now were all over the place… they were fucking living in the biggest calm, and got attacked without even preparing for it… yeah, a coordinated attack by the fucking Sinatra cartel… and now Finn was fucked… fucked just like Ferucci.
Because he knew pretty much when somebody says 'really bad' it truly means bad… Finn is on the brink of death.
"But we need to go, so are you good on your own or should we take you back home?"
"Need to go?" Hector asked back. "Where?"
Suddenly a smile raised on the man's face, and even behind them the others started to chuckle.
"Of course, to kill them all."
"What?"
"Yeah, we were sent to protect, and well, to kill those who want to hurt Darvik's great friend, James Bellini."
Exactly. Darvik didn't just send a hit team, no… he, in other words, activated the sleeper cells in the country with an easy and simple mission. Kill everybody who is associated with the Sinatra cartel, everybody that they got intel on.
And shit, they were ready for it too, ready… because back in Maraci, Darvik was already showing pictures to James. Yeah, it wasn't even an hour and these so-called sleeper cells, this special force guys or whoever the fuck they are, did their job… with a different level of precision.
"These guys went after Finn." Darvik showed the picture to James. "Though he's special and he killed them." He smiled at James. "But he got shot in the process and ended up in bad condition."
"What bad means?" James asked, looking at the picture of the bodies, the blood, the black market dealer with a bullet in his head, though he was worried about Finn… he can't lose another one… just can't.
"He lost a lot of blood, and the bullet… well, nothing, he is going to survive." Darvik's words weren't certain and James felt it.
Felt that they are truly at war with this fuckass Sinatra, not just that, but he thought the same as Hector… that they got too relaxed about all of this, because of the national emergency. They didn't even try to make defensive preparations, to send out people to map out where cartel members could be… they didn't even look at what intel Sophia gathered…
They just contracted on how to make a lot of money… concreted on deals with everybody. Yeah, he was right about all of it… they just moved too fast, especially Benjamin and the others. They didn't think about the cartel for even a second… that they are capable of striking.
And now the possibility was there that Finn was going to die… Finn, the man who is on the path to become a real Bellini, to rise up in the ranks.
"Ohh, when I said rats. This man was one of them." Darvik again swiped and showed a picture to James… of a man who he knows.
"No." He immediately said, "That's impossible."
"Impossible?" Darvik chuckled. "Do you want to hear his voice? Him accepting the money? Saying your whole daily routine?" He asked, but noticed James' eyes were more serious than before… the same empty eyes but now that same piercing eye had something different to it.
Emotions? Yeah, the emotion of betrayal is something on a different level. When someone close to you betrays you, it is the worst feeling in the world… somebody who you see every day, somebody who pledged loyalty and then just stabs you in the back.
"Crazy word it is, especially in the underworld, you can never know who is going to sell you out… and your fucking private chef, a cook, sold you out… well don't worry, my guys killed him." He said and wiped another picture. "This too, three women and four men, I don't think you know them, they worked at one of the warehouses there—"
"How do you know all of this?" James asked, as he looked deep into Darvik's eyes. "How do you know Albert betrayed me?"
Even his voice was different now… the voice of James that wasn't shocked, just genuinely surprised by it…
"Albert… oh, the cook huh?" Darvik smiled. "We have operations going on in Dennus, moreover in Arbera, we have listened to their calls, we monitored their phones… and, well, he was in connection with one of the Sinatra members, even sent pictures of your house, and how many guards are there, how heavily it is secured."
Now James's surprise began to turn into something else… something that fueled him, but fueled him in the wrong way. At first, he seemed not to really care, his voice was different, too, but deep down, deep within, he was screaming, he was furious.
Once again… his closest man, his life, was in danger… and to top it all off, the man who betrayed him was Albert.
Yeah, the one that betrayed James, that was impossible in his mind… was none other than Albert… the same fucking man who tried to comfort him… the same fucking man, who asked if there was any problem… who was there when the slap happened earlier.
It is true… you can trust nobody… and that is where the paranoia starts. There, how the senseless murdering starts… just like how Lucian did.
And James started to feel it… the need to clean up, the need to show the family that loyalty is not something to play with, especially when it comes to him… and even Mike and Arine understood it.
The silence of James, the fact that he barely reacted… they all knew that inside he was lost… lost in his darkness, in his anger, his wrath… and when he is silent, that's when he is the most dangerous.
Silence that is just… terrifying.
