Chapter 10: Elders
The man was floating in the air, his appearance that of a middle-aged man, but his levitation clearly marked him as a high-level cultivator.
Looking towards the trio, the man spoke politely, "At first, I thought it was the birth of a heavenly treasure in this backward land, but seeing you three here, it seems you are behind the Heavenly phenomena."
Noir initially braced himself, expecting an arrogant cultivator drawn by Xiao Meili's awakening. However, the man's polite tone was a pleasant surprise. Noir felt a wave of relief, as he'd been unsure how to handle a confrontation.
Noir cupped his fist, "Senior is indeed right, the previous change was caused by our negligence." He wasn't foolish and knew where politeness was essential for survival.
"You don't have to apologize. Let me ask you this: are you, by any chance, affiliated with any sect?" The man's words were clear; he was interested in recruiting them. But just as he made the offer, a graceful, womanly voice interrupted.
"Ju Jahiyan, you are being too hasty here. Don't think you can use this situation to your advantage." The woman materialized beside Noir's group; her eyes fixed on Xiao Meili.
"Hmph, who said I wanted to take advantage of the situation? The people from the Dragon-Phoenix Sect must be mistaken." Ju Jahiyan was obviously displeased by the woman's arrival. She was striking, with a red dress, slender legs, burgundy hair, and light red eyes with red lashes. Her demeanour suggested she was no ordinary person.
"Only we are here? I don't think so." She looked at the empty sky, and suddenly, it cracked open. A large, hulking man emerged.
"Old man, why all this show off? Couldn't you come without all the boasting of your power?" The woman mocked, but the hulking brute ignored her and looked at Big Huang.
"This child… I can sense you have an extraordinary physique. Why not come with me and join my Divine Mammoth Sect?" He directly offered Big Huang a place as his disciple.
"Old man, not so fast! Do you think we don't exist here?" Ju Jahiyan interjected as the old man's eyes remained fixed on Big Huang.
"What's there to wait for? Lady Vana wants the girl, and I want this little guy. So, what remains? That pipsqueak. You can have him." He didn't even glance at Noir, dismissing him because of his thin stature.
Noir was dumbfounded, staring at the hulking man who had called him a "pipsqueak." He acknowledged that he wasn't particularly muscular, but for an average person, he was fit enough. Yet, in the eyes of the man from the Divine Mammoth Sect, he was nothing more than a mere bug.
Lady Vana noticed Noir's glare. "Don't take his words to heart, young man," she said. "To this guy, normal humans are just bugs, but I don't agree with him."
Her gaze shifted to Ju Jahiyan. "I indeed want to take this girl with me, and as for this big guy, the old man has made his stance clear. So, what remains is this boy. Ju Jahiyan, you can have him."
Ju Jahiyan was visibly unhappy with the arrangement. Even though Noir was a level higher than both Xiao Meili and Big Huang but he looked ordinary, which paled in comparison to Big Huang's impressive physique and Xiao Meili's divine beast bloodline.
"Wait, seniors?" Noir interrupted. "You're assuming we're supposed to join your sects, but you haven't even asked us if we want to."
Lady Vana laughed. "You're a brave little guy. So, what are you suggesting? You don't agree with us?" she asked, a smile on her face, but her eyes held a threatening glint.
Noir cupped his fist. "No, instead, we want to know who the seniors are and where we are heading," he said politely, careful not to offend them. He wasn't happy about them deciding their future without consulting them, which was the main reason for his interruption.
"If you don't want this little bug, then should I just crush him? I'm not liking his tone," the hulking man from the Divine Mammoth Sect said, releasing some of his Qi towards Noir.
"You!" Both Xiao Meili and Big Huang stepped in front of Noir. Seeing this, Lady Vana used her own Qi to intercept the big man's attack.
"Enough, old man! Do you want to injure my disciple?" She then looked at Noir. "Your words are reasonable, so let us give you a little introduction."
"I'm from the Dragon-Phoenix Sect," she began, "a sect made up of humans and beasts who wield spirit beast or divine beast bloodlines. I'm the third elder of sect."
Her eyes shifted to Xiao Meili. "By joining our sect, you'll reach heights where the whole world will bow before you, unlike these mortals," she said, gesturing towards the kneeling mortals.
"I'm Po Baoshan, elder of the Divine Mammoth Sect," the hulking man announced. "We are body cultivators, and young man," he said, addressing Big Huang, "I want you to join my sect. Only then will you know the true value of your physique." Po Baoshan clearly ignored Noir from the very beginning.
Finally, it was Ju Jahiyan's turn. "I wish to take no one," he stated. "I'm Ju Jahiyan from the Resihi Sword Sect." He then looked at Lady Vana and Po Baoshan.
"Congratulations, Lady Vana and Senior Brother Baoshan, for acquiring such extraordinary talent." He, too, chose to ignore Noir, who was the least desirable of the trio in their eyes.
"I don't want to go," Xiao Meili blurted out, tugging on Noir's arm. "If I go, then he'll come with me."
Big Huang also stood firm in front of the elders. "Yes, we are family, and no one can separate us."
Noir slapped his own forehead, but a warm smile touched his lips. "You both should go. This will be a turning point in your lives. Your lives are going to change, so just go."
Noir's initial plan was to keep them with him, but seeing how problems were constantly arising, he wanted them to be safe. Seeing the opportunity before them, he couldn't understand why they were refusing for his sake.
He was frustrated by the three elders ignoring him, seeing him as insignificant. for a moment Noir wanted to yell at them, to let them know that he is the bearer of a system. But he just laughed at the idea.
"Little brother, how can you say that? How can we leave you here?" Big Huang turned towards Noir, while Xiao Meili tightly squeezed Noir's hand. "Brother, if you don't go, then I won't either."
Noir shook his head and hugged both of them. "Listen," he said, "you know there's something going on with me, and that was the reason for the changes we've faced in the past two days."
Both of them nodded. Noir continued, "Listen, I want you to go and do your best to become someone whose name will be known all over the world. I promise I'll come to meet you after I sort out my own things."
He himself was not happy to be separated from the two, but he now understood how much potential they carried, and he didn't want to restrict their growth by keeping them with him when they could grow so much more in those sects.
