Chapter 8: Xiao Meili's awakeneing (1)
Noir himself hadn't been confident. Reviving someone from the brink of death seemed impossible.
But after feeding Big Huang, the ointment from the old man, he saw a glimmer of hope for saving him, a hope that ultimately proved successful.
"Brother..." Xiao Meili looked at the exhausted Noir, who had fallen onto his back, smiling as he gazed at the ceiling.
Xiao Meili sat beside him and placed his head on her lap. "You did it, brother. You saved Big Brother," she said, massaging his head while tears still streamed down her face.
The inn owner's demeanour changed, and he bowed. "Senior... if I have offended you in any way, please forgive me. I... I'll even give back the gold coin you gave me." He was nervous and knew that he is helpless in front of an immortal.
Noir waved his hand dismissively. "There's no need to return what I gave you."
Old Pai, though not bowing due to his old age, spoke respectfully. "What was that thing you gave to this man? He was at death's door just minutes ago, but now," he looked at Big Huang, "this man is brimming with energy."
Although the old apothecary couldn't see the Qi in Big Huang's body, he could feel an energy surging through it, the energy that had saved his life.
Noir sat up. "It was a Seed of Cultivation," he explained, "something that helped Big Brother create his own dantian. The Qi from his dantian acts as a healing Qi, which is why the ointment you provided worked even better."
The old man hadn't expected Noir to tell him the truth, but when he did, the old man smiled and asked no more.
Noir wasn't worried about revealing the truth to those present. He felt they were trustworthy. then showed the old man his palm, and two gold coins materialized.
Seeing this, the old man shook his head. "You've already paid me by answering my question. Besides, I don't think I need gold coins. My treatment only costs fifty-something bronze coins."
Noir wanted to give the gold coins to the old man, but seeing his refusal, he didn't insist. Looking at the inn owner, he said, "You take these and, whenever you can, help the old man and his family." He handed the coins to the inn owner, who accepted them gratefully. "I will, Senior" the inn owner replied.
Soon, the old man left with the servant, and the inn owner also left to prepare food for Noir and Xiao Meili as they waited for Big Huang to awaken.
"Brother, you're an Immortal, and Big Brother is now an immortal too?" Xiao Meili asked, still trying to grasp the events of the night. So much had happened so quickly that she was struggling to process it all.
Happiness, sadness, pain, and now the knowing that Noir and Big Huang were both cultivators – she was still trying to understand everything that had transpired in such a short time.
Noir took out the remaining Seed of Cultivation. "Soon you'll be one too," he said. "While we wait for Big Brother to wake up, let's process this. By taking this seed, you'll become a cultivator too."
"This is!" Xiao Meili was tempted but hesitated. "Brother, where are you getting all these gold coins and even these seeds? Is becoming immortal this easy?" she wondered. She hadn't questioned him before, but now she felt the need for a serious conversation. She reverted to her usual self.
Noir rubbed his head. "This... I can't answer... at least not at the moment. It's not that I don't trust you, but these things are something that even I'm not sure of," he said apologetically.
He knew they trusted him, but he couldn't reveal anything because he knew he wouldn't be able to explain it.
"You're not doing something you'll regret in the future, right?" she asked, choosing not to press him further.
"Yes," he smiled, rubbing her cheeks. "Once I understand these changes myself, I'll tell you everything."
She smiled and took the Seed of Cultivation from his hand. Taking the seed, she closed her eyes as she felt a cooling sensation run through her body.
"Let me help you," Noir said, sitting behind her and beginning to guide her. He knew the cooling sensation would soon turn into immense heat, which would be difficult to process. But even after an hour, he didn't see Xiao Meili struggling with the heat.
Instead, he could feel the heat being absorbed into her dantian, something he hadn't seen or felt even with Big Huang or himself.
"What's happening?" Just as her dantian absorbed the building heat, Noir felt something was wrong.
Then, without warning, her dantian released all the absorbed heat outward, with such force that Noir was sent flying, slamming into the door. Big Huang's unconscious body was also sent flying, crashing through the window and landing on the ground out of the Inn.
At the same time, Xiao Meili's body rose into the air, her whole body engulfed in flames. The fire burned upwards, cleansing her from the inside out.
The inn's roof was blasted off by the immense heat and Qi. Noir, somehow managing to stay on his feet, stared at Xiao Meili, who was enveloped in flames. The force of her Qi blast shot skyward, signalling the birth of something extraordinary.
Slowly, Noir tried to move towards Xiao Meili, who was rising further into the air, but the heat was so intense that he couldn't move more than an inch.
A crowd began to gather around the inn, while those inside fled, trying to escape the powerful energy.
"AHAAA!"
Big Huang groaned in pain, surrounded by the crowd. Confused, he opened his eyes and saw the group of people around him.
Suddenly, he stood up and saw that the inn's roof had been blown off. Intense heat erupted from his room. "Little brother!" A terrifying thought struck him, and he ran towards the room, finding Xiao Meili engulfed in flames and Noir struggling to reach her.
"Little brother!"
