Chapter 529: Under that place
The Political City has numerous medieval buildings, built with thick, sturdy walls in the style of castles or similar things.
They looked very much like buildings some 300 to 500 years ago on earth, so they gave an imposing feeling of wealth and nobility.
This was a city for Matthew to admire because its artistic beauty was so well done. It reflected grace, nobility, and power.
Every street was guarded by powerful armies of vampires, who were prepared for any situation that might arise. Most of the kingdom's ministers and important people in the kingdom's politics lived here, such as nobles, high army officials, and many important businessmen.
The wealth gathered here was staggering, and although the city is not as well known as the Capital or the City of the Clans, it is still a prominent city in the political arena.
"It's a beautiful city." Complimented Matthew sincerely.
Ava agreed with him, and the man next to him introduced them.
"Welcome to the City where many of the decisions that will impact the civilian population of the Kingdom are made. Foreign policy is also handled from here, and indirectly, a large part of the Kingdom is administered from here. Also, welcome to the territory of the 13 Leading Organizations of the Underworld."
Matthew smiled, "While being here may seem dangerous, the reality is that it is the best hiding place. It seems that many of the ministers and people of political power in the Kingdom are with these organizations. Honestly, I must commend them for this. What a great way to hide."
"Haha, I must admit that this is largely because of Miss Rachel Richson's help before she died. Even though she left us plunged into chaos, she still left us some control of the kingdom. An admirable woman."
"From the way you talk, you're not young. Have you met her?"
He smiled. "My name is Egrand Richson, sir. Miss Rachel's younger brother and Lord Ead's advisor. I'm not as good as either of them, but if you need anything, you can contact me." He replied.
Matthew was taken by surprise. 'Although he is quite old, he doesn't look it.' He thought and smiled.
"Since you're so old, I wanted to ask how the Richson Mafia went down after Rachel Richson died, " Matthew said.
Egrand smiled a little and remembered the past. "All the organizations attacked us. When Miss Rachel died, she knew she couldn't trust any of them, so she left us control of the political power, and with that, we could rise up. Even so, Rachel's only son did not bring out her traits or intelligence; he was very deficient in his work and could not be matched, so he ended up dying young. It was that person's son, Mr. Ead, who, with great effort, was able to raise us up again. It's been many years since then."
"I see. It seems that you are also enemies of many of those mobs then."
"Hahaha, we don't know the enemies, Sir. We know the vendettas and the interests but not the enemies."
"I guess that's the way those in the underworld think, I understand."
The two chatted amicably for a bit longer until Ava couldn't hold her hesitation and decided to ask.
"Who is Ead Richson's grandfather? I ask because I'm Charanne's granddaughter, and I once heard that Charanne and Rachel had such a relationship. But, previously, he wasn't half human, was he?"
The man looked at her in the rearview mirror in surprise. "Hahaha, if you are granddaughter of the Great Charanne, then you are half-sister to Lord Ead. He is the son of the son that the Great Charanne had with Miss Rachel." His good-natured response and increased good cheer took Ava by surprise.
Even Matthew hadn't expected that response.
"No way; why wasn't he half-human then?" Matthew asked the same question Ava had in her head.
And the man shrugged. "I don't know, but his father was. I initially had that doubt too, so I did blood tests to find out if it was true that Ead Richson was a real 'Richson,', and it came out that he was; he's the son of a vampire-human. I guess he's an anomaly; maybe that's why he's so good, hahaha."
'An anomaly... It's not impossible.' Matthew thought, and it was the only thing he could think. He didn't have an additional answer to that and couldn't come up with one, even with all his knowledge.
As they chatted, they traveled to a huge, slightly elongated building with thick, well-decorated columns rising to the ceiling.
"This is the most important Political Meeting Center. Although there are numerous rooms, it belongs to the Royal Family. This is our destination." Egrand said and got out of the car.
Matthew and Ava followed closely behind, wearing hoods to cover their faces a bit, as they did not want to be recognized. The cold and beautiful night's snowfall helped them, preventing them from standing out too much.
But people were coming in and out of this place.
Egrand was quite well known in this place, so they were soon able to enter. In doing so, Matthew and Ava discovered that it was divided into several floors, but not upwards but downwards.
Not just anyone could gain access, high status was required to do so, but Egrand had free access to this place, so they had no problem gaining access.
Going down to the first floor, the situation changed a bit. There was a huge marketplace with many buildings. It was not a cave, but it was gigantic and allowed to walk freely without feeling overwhelmed.
There were people walking around.
"This is not the only access place, but around here, it is the safest. There are several small groups that profit in these places, selling all kinds of things. Many up there know this as 'The Authentic Black Market.' Anything you can't get up there, here you will surely get, and if you don't, you will surely get a person who can get it for you for a good sum of money."
"Everything is for sale here except people. Thanks to Princess Emma, every kind of human trafficking that was going on in the kingdom was promptly abolished, although that took a portion of the work away from us." He smiled mockingly, for he was grateful for what Emma Lewis did, even though it had brought them great loss and scolding.
This place was not just a market; there were residences and houses here. Although it was not too big, there were hotels to stay in. It was like a small subway city. The political leaders could not have missed this, so it meant they had been ignoring it for some reason.
As they walked, he also introduced them to the place. This was just the kind of place Matthew didn't consider worthy.

There were all kinds of disasters and things out of the ordinary here, murders were common here, and fights were the bread and butter, but there were also rapes and other kinds of disasters.
'This is a real trash city. But it'll do for now.' Matthew sighed and looked at Egrand.
"Take me to the deep places. This is of no value to me."
Egrand nodded to him, and soon after, they went back down one floor down.
