Chapter 7: Chapter 6: The Price of Forbidden Power
Chapter 6: The Price of Forbidden Power
Erevan leaned against the cold metal wall of an abandoned alley, breathing hard. His body flickered—glitching in and out of reality, pixels forming and dissolving at random. His vision swam with unstable data streams, making the world look like a corrupted hologram.
[ALERT: Quantum Phantom Code Integration – 2%]
[Status Effect: Reality Instability Worsening]
He clenched his fists. He needed to fix this. Fast.
The Quantum Sect wouldn't let him go so easily. Even now, he could feel their tracking algorithms searching for him, scanning the entire sect for his digital footprint.
I need to get out of the sect. But first… I need help.
A Contact in the Shadows
There was only one person in the Quantum Sect who might be crazy enough to help him—Nyssa, the Rogue Coder.
Nyssa was a shadow hacker, a cultivator who had rejected the sect's laws and worked in the underground, manipulating data streams, erasing records, and breaking into restricted archives.
If anyone could help him stabilize the Quantum Phantom Code, it was her.
Erevan activated Glitch Step, his body momentarily phasing into the data layer of the sect, allowing him to move unseen past the patrolling Cyber Guardians.
A few minutes later, he reached the Neon Abyss, a hidden underground hideout beneath the outer city.
The entrance was disguised as an abandoned cyber-shrine, covered in broken Dao scripts. Erevan placed his hand against the metal door, sending a coded pulse through it.
A second later, the door split apart, revealing a dimly lit chamber filled with floating holographic screens, AI cores, and cybernetic implants.
Nyssa sat cross-legged on a floating data sphere, her silver hair reflecting the neon lights around her. Her cybernetic eyes scanned Erevan with amusement.
"You look like hell," she said, grinning.
"I feel worse," Erevan muttered. "I need your help."
Nyssa leaned forward, her fingers flickering across a holo-keyboard, pulling up data streams of Erevan's body. Her eyes widened.
"Holy shit… you actually did it."
Erevan raised an eyebrow. "Did what?"
"You stole from the Forbidden Archives." Nyssa whistled. "And not just any technique… this code—it's rewriting your entire existence."
She projected a 3D model of Erevan's body. His Qi pathways were shifting, turning into something unstable and unnatural, like raw data struggling to hold form.
"If you don't fix this," Nyssa said, "you'll glitch out of reality permanently."
The Quantum Code Rebellion
Erevan ran a hand through his hair. "Great. Any solutions?"
Nyssa smirked. "Well, I could try stabilizing your code… but it won't be easy. The Quantum Phantom Code doesn't just rewrite you—it makes you an anomaly. The sect will never let you live now. You're officially a threat to their system."
Erevan exhaled. "Yeah, I figured. So what's the plan?"
Nyssa's smirk widened. "You're not the only one the sect wants dead. There's a whole underground group of rogue cultivators who want to bring the system down. And they'd love to have a guy like you."
Erevan narrowed his eyes. "You mean a Quantum Rebellion?"
Nyssa nodded. "Exactly. If you want to survive, you'll have to stop running and start fighting back."
Erevan grinned. "I like the sound of that."
But before Nyssa could respond, the entire Neon Abyss shook.
A red warning flashed on all screens.
[ALERT: ELITE BOUNTY HUNTER DETECTED]
Nyssa cursed. "They found us!"
A metallic explosion ripped through the entrance, sending shockwaves through the hideout. Erevan turned, his Cyber Qi flaring as a shadowy figure stepped through the smoke.
A tall man in a black cybernetic suit with glowing red eyes stared at him, his hand crackling with energy restraints.
"The Quantum Sect has ordered your capture, Erevan Kane," the bounty hunter said, his voice cold and mechanical. "Come quietly, or be deleted."
Erevan smirked, his hands sparking with unstable Phantom Code energy.
"Yeah? Let's see you try."
